Does it bother you when the Boxcover doesn't
match the movie? I am not talking about the
2 and 4 hour compilation tapes.
Recent example is Anal Excursions #1 that says
Ashley Blue is in it and it ends up being
Ashley Long.

Yes, dencavr, very much.

Also dislike it when the 'hype' text is very misleading on the boxcover.

Example 'all anal', only to find that barely half the scenes have it.

Yes, and there are sex scenes in the box that are not in the video. A few are careless mistakes by the graphic designer but some companies are just sleazy.

Pisses me off royally when that happens.

Believe it or not most of the industry has gotten a lot better about this. It wasn't that long ago that you could find a box for the "Devil in Miss Jones" with a very hot blonde on the cover. Too bad she wasn't actually in the movie. Now their biggest offense is usually a boxcover girl who only has a bit part in the movie.

Yep. That's why whenever I review a movie where that happens I point it out in a line starting with False Advertising: .

It is extremely annoying... and misrepresentation. I have considered keeping a list of such movies as part of the "Problem DVD" list I maintain.

Yup, I've always liked that "False Advertising" section in Astro's reviews. I've shamelessly borrowed it for my own review format. Incidentally, I've been known to deduct a half-star or even a full-star off the overall rating for false advertising, depending on the severity of the offense.

Yeah it sucks... and it leads one to 2 possible conclusions:

They did it intentionally

-OR-

They did it through incompetence

Either way, you've gotta be suspect of all future releases from the company in question.

Thanks for the good inputs and ideas.

I use to have a page called 'Boxcover Ripoff' and
I will start using it again.

Thanks to all,

I very much appreciate Astro's "False Advertising" and the "problem DVD" categories.
To me, they are invaluable pieces of information.

Speaking from within a production company, I can say that more often than not, it is by accident or carelessness in the arena of quality check.

With respect to boxcover art...usually the artist is given a book containing thousands of chromes. Creative freedom lets him/her choose and design the box. Problem comes when the director or someone else doesn't step up and say "hey, this girl isn't the lead person."

And I am in agreement that a 4hr compilation that is only 3 hours 15 minutes is a rip-off and is true negligence on the part of the production company. I would say that give or take 5 minutes is an acceptable range of variance.

Reviewers, Keep up the good work.

It bothers me so much that if it amounts to false advertising (scenes on the cover not even remotely similar to those in the DVD)I never ever get anything from that company again.

Early on we had some issues with artists not paying attention to details. We had one ass clown who put all the models real names on the box! Needless to say he was shit canned quick.

If you want things right you gotta do it yourself. I now do all editing, boxcovers, authoring, etc. because I don't trust anybody else to get it right. It's a damn shame. - Anders Manga, Pandora Bazaar
