Ok, so I was at gaydvdreview.com and I saw over on the right a price search thing for Boy 3 boy wonder ... and I'm thinking "hmm, I'll just see what it says." I already have it being shipped from buy.com as we speak, so I was just curious what others were charging.
Can anyone possibly explain why "adult dvd" sites charge *WAY* more for the same dvd as "regular" dvd sites? Both amazon.com and buy.com have this dvd for under 20 bucks - I got it for 12 with free shipping from buy.com .... and the cheapest on the price search was 33 bucks -- THREE TIMES what I paid.
Are they just completely price gouging us because they can, or is there indeed a difference between these dvds?

Welcome on board, Star. Tell us how miserable it is to live in such a conservative state.
Anyway, I am pretty sure they are exactly the same DVD. Since it's a softcore, so it's available to mainstream stores like amazon and buy.com. You got it for $12 may be a special case with promotion or coupons. But you definitely can get it under $20. Then why the adult stores are charging more? I think they got those dvds in the same cost but mixed in with other high cost titles and if someone don't know the market information, they bite the bait, otherwise how can they make money out of you!
This leads me to suspect that gay dvds should not be priced in such an outrageous level, the inventory cost may be higher, but if they do the same percentage markup as the straight porn, the price gap becomes wider. Note the word "percentage".
Say if a straight porn wholesales cost is: $10, the markup is 100%, they sell for $20. If a gay title cost $25, the 100% markup result in $50 on retail price. If they markup a fixed amount, say $10, then the price is more reasonable.
Then again I don't really know how much the studio or distributors charge the stores. It must be different studio by studio. If the store go get the dvd directly from studios, the cost may be cheaper, if they get it from distributor, then you have another layer of middle man charge.
Anyway, just by browsing same titles on different stores with wide ranges of price tags make me think there is indeed some room for gay adult dvd price to be brought down to an affordable level.
