My logic here is a true starlet will have many titles due to her being in demand and many internet searches as she is popular with fans. To do so I will use IAFD filmography numbers and Freeones.com ranks as my measurement tools. I know IAFD doesn't cover internet shoots unless they appeared in a compilation but it's the best I could do. When you consider Gracie having triple digit titles it just wouldn't be right for someone with less than a third of her releases to beat her. For comparison purposes last year's winner Kagney Linn Karter had 60 releases per IAFD. I figure a benchmark of half of that is fair. This cuts the list down to 10 nominees: Brooke Lee Adams (48 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #100 with 312,782 total searches) Briana Blair (32 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #99 with 131,853 total searches) Amy Brooke (93 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #327 with 68,879 total searches) Tara Lynn Foxx (87 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #433 with 90,253 total searches) Gracie Glam (101 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #175 with 165,284 total searches) Allie Haze (46 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #574 with 49,948 total searches) Amia Miley (58 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #90 with 370,179 total searches) Ashlyn Rae (60 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #221 with 190,088 total searches) Katie St. Ives (46 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #848 with 42,386 total searches) Jennifer White (43 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #59 with 178,105 total searches) This list of nominees has an average of 61 titles, twice that of the benchmark of 30 which again I think is fair. Now just because you released a lot of content doesn't mean it was all quality content or generated the amount of buzz a Best New Starlet should generate. I will therefore use the Freeones total searches numbers as my guide and set a threshold of 100,000 searches which I believe is fair. The average total searches of the 5 people I excluded from the list of 10 was less than 35,000 so I believe these numbers do have some merit. This whittles the list down further to this group of six nominees: Brooke Lee Adams (48 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #100 with 312,782 total searches) Briana Blair (32 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #99 with 131,853 total searches) Gracie Glam (101 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #175 with 165,284 total searches) Amia Miley (58 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #90 with 370,179 total searches) Ashlyn Rae (60 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #221 with 190,088 total searches) Jennifer White (43 titles per IAFD, Freeones rank of #59 with 178,105 total searches) Average total searches amongst these six is a little less than 225,000 - more than twice the benchmark of 100k which again makes me think the benchmark is fair. Now comes the hard work as this is a very deserving list...I figure we can start by taking a look at total time of service and see if there are any outliers: Brooke Lee Adams - 1.75 years Briana Blair - 1.00 years Gracie Glam - 1.50 years Amia Miley - 2.00 years Ashlyn Rae - 1.50 years Jennifer White - 1.75 years Now when it comes to outliers I am going to have to call out Briana Blair as she has only a full year of service, which means she hasn't had enough time to build up her name or release as much content as the other girls. I hate using that against her but the other girls all have at least a half year more of service which I believe helps their chances at winning. Another outlier I'm going to call out is Ashlyn Rae who as far as I can tell has been MIA from the business since June. It really wouldn't make sense therefore for her to get the award (much like Natalia Rossi last year) so I am going to take her off the list. This leave us with these four names: Brooke Lee Adams Gracie Glam Amia Miley Jennifer White I think this leaves us with the four most qualified and deserving nominees. I really can't come up with any reasons to exclude any of them from my final list. What I will do is give my thought about the "other" three performers before making my case for Brooke (surprise surprise, haha). 1) Gracie Glam - It's funny seeing Gracie in competition in such a prestigious category with Brooke as she is one of her closest friends in the industry. I feel she's also brought the best out of Brooke in the past year particularly in the shoots they have done together (including their scene in Girl Crush which is up for best girl/girl scene). I recall the first time seeing Gracie perform in Anabolic Initiations #25 and being really impressed. In addition to her natural beauty she was a natural in front of the camera and really had the "it" factor you look for in a performer. She is mature beyond her years and has accomplished a lot in her year and a half of service. She's worked with many of the biggest companies numerous times...Elegant Angel, Jules Jordan, Evil Angel, and Adam & Eve to name a few. She will also be appearing in EA's Performers of the Year 2011...I bring it up because Kagney (last year's winner) was in the 2010 edition. Including her scene with Brooke in Girl Crush she has 6 AVN nominations. The only performer with 100+ titles she's clearly worked hard and is a very deserving winner of this award. Let's just say if Brooke doesn't win it I really hope Gracie does. 2) Amia Miley - Rog Reviews' Fan Faves Starlet of the Year, Amia clearly has generated a lot of buzz with fans in the industry as she has the most searches on Freeones. If you look at Freeones top stars for the last 30 days she is one of only two best starlet nominees on the list (she ranks at 87, with Brooke coming in at 60). She too has worked numerous times for JJV and Evil Angel, and has appeared in EA's Cuties and Starlets 2010. Amia's young looks and small size has typecast her in Barely Legal/teen/petite roles which has not allowed her to have as diverse roles as the other nominees so I'm not sure if that will hurt her chances. She has also lost a little bit of her momentum the last few months as she stopped doing boy/girl. While Amia is very deserving of her nomination I'm not sure she is the most well rounded nominee. 3) Jennifer White - Of my four "finalists" I am least familiar with Jennifer's work. She's quietly built a solid resume the last two years and had a scene in EA's blockbuster Tori Black Is Pretty Filthy 2. Of the four she's probably the most "hardcore" having worked with Evil Angel many times and has performed in double-digit anal scenes. While she has done a lot of work she doesn't really exude "star power" to me. I don't know if it's the generic name or what - she's sort of flown under the radar for me. I'm not trying to take anything away from her - she's beautiful and the performances I've seen from her have all been solid. I would just be surprised if she won the award as she hasn't had numerous big titles as the other three have had (she only has TBIPF 2). OK this is very long so I am going to hold off on making the case for Brooke until after Turkey Day. Hopefully someone will appreciate my attempt at debating porn in an intelligent manner, lol. It's great that Brooke Adams started doing anal this year but she is not as filthy or as good of a performer as Amy Brooke or... Gracie Glam, my pick for Best New Starlet. Clearly leading in titles, the world has seen a lot of Gracie and surely can't wait to see more. Gracie's among my favorites to watch give oral, receive oral, and just generally fuck whether it's with a girl or a guy. Brooke might do anal but she doesn't deliver scenes on par with Gracie. 5. I admit the way I went about making my exclusions wasn't perfect but I was trying to cut down the list in terms of two factors that I feel are important for winning an AVN Award - total body of work and overall buzz/popularity. I felt bad excluding Briana but I do think the other performers have a better chance of winning due to time of service and a greater number of releases. I'm not trying to take anything away from her - while she only has a year of service she is taking the industry by storm with 4 total AVN nomination (3 for scenes and one for Best Starlet - speaking of which when I mentioned 6 noms for Gracie that was only for scenes so she really has 7 including Best Starlet). You pointed out her appearance in the Big Lebowski parody which was a big title this year and she clearly has buzz going if we consider the Freeones stats. I think Briana has a bright future ahead of her and wouldn't be surprised to see her nominated in the more prestigious categories at future AVNs, but I just don't see her winning Best New Starlet this year. I'm glad you called out my exclusion of Amy Brooke as that is one that I really felt bad about. If I had to give someone a pass from the cuts I made it would be Amy. She has definitely been one of the most hardworking performers in the industry with close to 100 titles and one of the raunchiest ones. I wholeheartedly agree with your use of "tenacious" when describing her. I also had the chance to meet Amy at Exxxotica Miami and spoke to her for a bit. She was a sweetheart and very humble - you can tell she loves what she does and appreciates her fans. This was really apparent to me when after taking a picture with me and giving me a signed 8x10 she didn't even want to charge me. I thought this was really cool as many of the performers there seemed like they were simply there for the money. I still insisted on paying Amy what the others were charging which she was really appreciative of. So yes, I'm a big Amy fan and if she won the award I would be really happy for her as well. I can't argue with anything you said about Gracie and being completely unbiased I'd have to say she's the odds-on favorite to win. She's got the content with a wide array of studios to back her up and AVN has taken notice of her as she has the most nominations within the group. It's funny comparing Gracie and Brooke as they are both awesome and complement each other so well but they each have their own strengths. While you may say that Gracie is a better performer than Brooke I will say that Brooke has challenged herself a bit more having done her first anal this year. Also, I know we haven't really touched on internet shoots but Brooke has worked with Kink.com numerous times and has done some AMAZING work with them (particularly in her latest round of shoots). I also feel Brooke is superior to Gracie when it comes to actual acting in scenes. She did an amazing job with Anthony Rosano playing Betty in The Flintstones parody...IMO she put Rosie O'Donnell to shame. Her acting in Girlfriends Films productions has been stellar as well. I really think if she keeps with it Brooke can join the ranks of Kimberly Kane as one of the best true actresses in the industry. Anyways, I'll save my final thought on Brooke when I make my case for her but I do appreciate your thought and really can't argue with your Top 5.
