I guess I should mention that I work in the video industry, but not the "Adult" video industry. Also, I thought about posting this in the "Tech Talk" section of the forum, but that seemed to deal more with Post Production issues like dvd authoring. If this post does belong over there I apologize. My first question has to do with the cameras Mr. Stagliano uses to film his Buttman movies. After buying and watching the "Fashionistas" and "Wild Goose Chase" I was very impressed with the look of sex on 35mm film. The extras in both give an interesting chance to compare/contrast the different techniques that Mr. Stagliano used in each film. There must have been advances made in 35mm cameras because he talks about how in "Wild Goose Chase" most of the shots are tripod mounted due to the cameras' weight. In the "Fashionistas" making of feature however he is clearly seen several times using a hand held technique with awesome results. I plan on buying the "Adventures of Buttman" next which the box cover mentions was shot on betacam. However, "Bend Over Babes 1&2" were shot on hi-8? When did he make the move to DV tape? I'm sorry to sound so nitpicky [anal even!], but I find that the type of film/tape stock used to shoot porn greatly affects my enjoyment of the feature. Perhaps others are curious as well. Or, maybe I am just like one of those nerds on the baseball forums who speculate on what type of shoelaces Johnny Damon uses. Thanks for reading! Fidelio, "I play most nights at the Sonata Cafe..." Almost everything shot before 1990 was Betacam. (Mystic Pieces, Shadow Dancers, etc.) His first DV was Buttman in Budapest in 1997. [Link] |

In about a month, the VX1000 more or less killed Hi8 as a lower-cost alternative to BetaSP. No matter what quality lens/camerablock you paired with Hi8, Hi8 still had a lot of drop outs. Over the next few years, the VX1000 and its decendents would hollow out the BetaSP market as well, offering "good-enough" quality at a price that was one fourth the cost of even Sony's cheepo UVW100. -TC [Link] |
