I like to rent them also. But if there is a video that has my favorite pornstar in there and it looks interesting, I will buy it. Sometimes, video stores don't carry the titles that I want to rent so I just buy it off the Internet.
First of all, you can buy most for $20. And then I like to collect them. I want to have an impressive collection of good porn for the future.
It is also important for me to have all DVDs nicely organized in their boxes with the cover art so that I can make a choice just like I would be in the shop selecting what looks hot at that moment.
And last not least, there are some unforgettable, classic scenes and performers I would like to see many times.

I'm with you! Furthermore, you can fing good titles for as little as $10 for something a year or two old, and $15 for current used or rented titles. I guess it all depends on what you want. Some titles I would rent, other I would buy based on director, studio, or actor. Bottom line, in most cases if you get a good deal, you buy, and if it's not collection worthy, you sell, and get most of your money back. It's like renting with no late charges.
That's what I do, only I just tape the scenes I want. Once I bought a few DVD's, but renting them is so much cheaper and easier. I already have enough DVD's of regular movies.
Thats my biggest problem with 'Adult Book Stores', you walk in and (at least here in OR) they allow you to rent the title. But you also have the opportunity to buy it at $49.95 for a VHS tape. Now let me get this right, you want me to pay $50 for a title I can order on-line for $25? How does that math work out?
I really like xrentdvd's monthly service, and if I decide that I might like to view the title again down the road I can deduct the rental fee from the price of the title.

I have purchased many DVDs via XrentDVD this way. I don't use their monthly service, but instead I use the "Keep It" option on titles I rent. First I'll rent a title I think is interesting. If I like it, I can deduct the rental fee from the title and keep it for that price. You don't get to have the covers that way, but I'd prefer not to have them because I like to keep my collection compact.
The math is actually quite simple, it is not the bookstores intention to sell that tape for 50 dollars. They would rather rent it out several times until the tape is worn out then return to vendor for a full credit. Just kidding of course. Once the tape quits bringing in revenue it is usually marked down to a reasonable sale price to make room for new movies. Of course not all bookstores operate the same way and this is just a theory of mine.
I buy because I like to collect them. Also, I am not a big fan of renting DVD's because people don't respect them and alot of times they are scratched and unviewable.
In my country dont exist any Adult Book Store, then i cant rent or buy any porn Dvd. Im buying online only (thanks Adultdvdtoday!),i have a collection of 1,700 original dvds with some 700 +- mainstream movies and the others porn titles (i love u Taylor Rain).I want to buy more!

Someone hit this square on the head. You never know when a tape might become a collector. My oldest movie is Curse of The Catwoman. I loved that movie cause Selena Steele was so hot. Not long after I bought it, I found out that Alexandria Quinn was underage and they recalled the film. Here's the rub. The version I rented was the real deal, the version I bought was post recall. When I finally watched it, I found out that the scene was gone from my copy.
Also many stars are here today, gone tomorrow. So if you don't buy, you miss out. Things have improved with the low production cost of DVD's, but if you are over 30, and remeber classic titles from the 80's and 90's, you can't even find 50% of that stuff anymore. The only way to have it, is to own it.
It all depends on the store. I have two stores in my area where I am very friendly with the management. At the first store, they will sell me DVD's for the same price that I can get them online. Their attidude is that they their better off making a dollar or 2 off of me on each disc while selling me a lot of discs. They are a distributor and are easily able to replenish something that I buy on release day.
The other store flat out tells me that I'm not the kind of customer that he typically sells to. His typical customer is someone who pops in once in a while and buys a handful of DVD's. His typical customer has never been to ADT, nor has he ever investigated ordering porn through the mail (and probably never would, even if he thought of it). This store sells their DVD's at $49.99 and sells a lot of them. Replenishing inventory is not as easy for them, so they'd rather make fewer large sales than lots of small sales.
I rent mostly . I go through a lot of tapes or dvds .If I come across one that I feel like owning I go back and buy. About 90% of titles I dont care to see again .
