Looking for something to shoot amateur footage in the bedroom. Don't have a budget in mind but not looking to spend a fortune on pro-level equipment. Apart from the SLR-type cameras used by vloggers I had wondered if any phone cameras were up to the job? The other option I'd thought about was a GoPro which would also be useful for other stuff like cycling etc. All recommendations welcome.

Quite a few of the pro-am sites and such shoot their vids on stabilized iPhones and there is a market segment of equipment for mobile videography, carried over from the VLOG crowd. There are also gimbal cameras that you can fit in your pocket that can be used. The short answer is that there are possibilities and you really have to go look into it elsewhere.
