No!!! If you have Hepatitis C your porn career is over!!
One of the most infamous examples of this is when Brooke Ashley got Hepatitis C and HIV from Mark Wallice who faked a test.

^ This actually raises a question about the whole condom issue.
I believe that California has pretty strong anti-discrimination laws.
Do these laws impact the porn industry and casting decisions? Obviously, a lot of porn is cast with an eye to the performers race, and obviously their sex is a major factor. But this seems similar to casting decisions for a mainstream movie, and if James Bond is English and white, certainly the studio has the right to discriminate based on race when casting for the particular role of James Bond.
But health status is very different from sex and race-- viruses are invisible. If someone has a virus that doesn't impact their ability to do the work, and there is no good reason to believe that while doing their work they would endanger the health of their co-workers, can you justify preventing them from working in their chosen profession?
I recognize that this may be a theoretical issue, that condoms may not offer complete protection. But in theory, if condoms could be shown to offer something close to complete protection, could the industry still discriminate based on viral load?
I presume that individual performers can refuse to have sex with anyone for any reason, but this is more than discrimination by an individual performer or company. They whole industry is cooperating to make sure that people with certain viruses can't work anywhere in the industry. While you could certainly argue that this is a reasonable measure given that each performer may have sex with many other performers, and it is important to prevent viruses from even starting to circulate in the performer population, it is also highly discriminatory against people who want to perform but may have a virus, especially if you could show that condoms offered highly effective protection.
Again, given that condoms aren't 100% effective, I know this is hypothetical, but lawyers often use hypotheticals to clarify the law.

Personally I wouldn't want to risk the pretty girls' health any further... seems sort of unfair - they're already subjected to lots of bodily fluids and booze and drugs...
And since there is existing vaccine maybe one should consider taking it before entering the porn areas of america?

Not necessarily since I believe that you can't work if your test shows that you have a virus that can potentially be transmitted through sexual contact. A condom is a good protection against that but they can break and therefore an infected person could still transmit the disease to an uninfected person during penetration. I'm not sure if this is true but I think that the gay porn industry allows HIV performers to work with other HIV performers since both parties are infected but they still have to wear a condom.

Not exactly.
I think what you might have meant to say is that the gay porn industry allows HIV+ performers to work with other HIV+ performers without condoms, which is true (in some instances).
In general in gay porn, condom usage is required for all shoots, and HIV status is not disclosed.

Let me put it in terms you can understand. It is illegal to knowingly infect someone else with a disease without disclosing to them you are infected. Depending on the severity of the disease you could be charged for assault or even murder. Hep C is not as dangerous as HIV but it a serious disease that causes significant health problems and can reduce your life span or kill you without treatment. It causes the infected person to incur significant health cost for medical treatment and could end their careers. In some cases it might be hard to prove they caught it from you or that you knew you were infected but in most cases all they need are your medical records to prove you knew you were infected.
Having said that STD testing for performers is not perfect. They don't test for everything and at most they are tested maybe twice per month? And lot of these performers are fucking people off camera who are not tested. Lot of performers have probably caught some STD like chlamydia or syphilis at one time but those are curable. Almost everyone including general population carries herpes virus but don't show external symptoms (i.e. skin sores) or apparently there are different strains? I'm not a doctor so I cannot explain it. I do know people who have the version that does not show symptoms are not required to inform someone they have herpes. Maybe somebody else can explain that better.

In order to shoot you have to get tested at Talent Testing Service or Cutting Edge Testing, and be found negative for the following:
Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV, Chlamydia.
I don't think there is a mandatory Hep C test in order to shoot, so I think you're actually good.

^ From this source on the Government of Canada website:
"When a health care provider prescribes antiviral therapy for a person infected with hepatitis C virus, one of the goals is to reduce the person’s viral load (the amount of the virus present in the blood) to undetectable. If there is no measurable virus repeatedly in these people, they are considered to be “sustained viral responders”. Should treated individuals continue to be virus-free after repeat blood tests after two, three, five, and eight or more years, then specialists consider these people to be cured of hepatitis C."
But the main point is that whether or not you're doing porn, you should be seeing a doctor for treatment of this, not asking us.

^ That's correct, they don't test for it. That doesn't mean that you should do it though, because what zambi said above is correct. If you were shooting porn and you gave someone Hep C, they could sue you and win. It could even go to criminal court. In fact, this just happened with Lylith Lavey and Mr Marcus (for syphilis, not Hep C).
So yes, you'd be cleared to shoot, but if someone asked you if you had Hep C, legally you'd have to tell them if you didn't want to get in trouble like he did.
And once you tell someone that you have Hep C, the likeliness of them agreeing to shoot with you significantly decreases.
You would probably still get some shoots though. Some girls will agree to anything (especially if they already have Hep C too, which I'm sure several girls do).

I am going to attempt to do so now as well.
Shogun_rules_,
You need to forget your aspirations in porn.
Do not try to justify, or rationalize your desire to perform if you truly do have Hepatitis C.
You need to get a job in a machine shop, or on a paving crew, or any place of employment other than the sex industry, food service industry, or health care fields.
Go get healthy physically, and mentally.
This ain't fun, and games.

Whether or not Hepatitis C is a sexually transmitted disease seems to still be a matter controversy.
Wikipedia says:
"Transmission
The primary route of transmission in the developed world is intravenous drug use (IDU), while in the developing world the main methods are blood transfusions and unsafe medical procedures.[25] The cause of transmission remains unknown in 20% of cases;[26] however, many of these are believed to be accounted for by IDU.[9]"
and
"Sexual intercourse
Whether hepatitis C can be transmitted through sexual activity is controversial.[33] While there is an association between high-risk sexual activity and hepatitis C, it is not known whether transmission of the disease is due to drug use that has not been admitted to or sex (as risk factors).[7] The majority of evidence supports there being no risk for monogamous heterosexual couples.[33] Sexual practices that involve higher levels of trauma to the anogenital mucosa, such as anal penetrative sex, or that occur when there is a concurrent sexually transmitted infection, including HIV or genital ulceration, do present a risk.[33] The United States government only recommends condom use to prevent hepatitis C transmission in those with multiple partners.[34]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis_C
This seems to assume that no "monogamous heterosexual couples" ever engage in anal intercourse. Which is a very foolish assumption to make, as obviously some do.
In my opinion a person who has Hepatitis C should only be allowed to work in porn with other performers who also have Hepatitis C.
I believe there is some misleading information out there which says that the porn industry currently doesn't test for Hepatitis C. And this is may be why the OP is asking this question.
However this is not really true. Some studios/producers let you work with a basic panel std test which does not include Hepatitis C. Other studios require a comprehensive panel std test which does include Hepatitis C, and they won't let you work if you have it. So if you only work for what I regard as the dodgy studios that don't really care enough about performers health, you might get away with having Hepatitis C by keeping quiet about it and just relying on your basic panel test. Which is not a great situation for you as you'll be confined to working in the riskiest segment of the porn industry all the time.

This addresses the discrimination issue that I raised. From a public health perspective, has it worked? Are infection rates in gay porn as low as in straight porn? What about with the infections that aren't tested for? Given the lack of testing in gay porn, is there any data on the issue?
These seem especially important questions given that the citizens of California seem to be OK with the gay porn approach, but not with the straight porn approach.

It is only some gay studios who don't use STD testing. And a lot of gay and bisexual porn is made by companies which also make straight porn.

I don't think they are making a black and white statement.
Epidemiology is largely a statistical science. When they say "monogamous heterosexual couples", they mean "people who tell researchers that they are monogamous and heterosexual". If they were truly monogamous, assuming that neither partner had Hep C before the relationship began or acquired it by non-sexual transmission, then the chances of either getting Hep C from the other is zero.
But in the real world, people lie to researchers, and people get Hep C through activities other than sexual contact. In those cases, the chances that it will get transmitted are reduced with reduced frequency of anal sex. While there are plenty of gay couples that never have anal sex, and plenty of straight couples that have it regularly, I think it's safe to say that its more frequent in the gay community.
The rate of transmission by sexual contact is so low that it's debated whether it ever happens. Let's say that the chances of transmission are 1% per anal encounter and that the mode of transmission is one way (top to bottom). Then a person would need to bottom about 50 times before there was a 50/50 chance that the virus got passed within that relationship.
Now lets assume that the husband really is straight (or rarely bottoms), then the chances of either partner getting infected by marital sex drops very close to zero. If you get close enough to zero in statistics, other modes of transmission will be so much more frequent that you can ignore the rare cases for statistical purposes.

No controversy at all.
Hep C is trasmitted by blood, and can be transmitted during a sexual act whith bleeding tissues

Sexual transmission is an uncommon way of becoming infected with hepatitis C, so whether you agree or not there is some disagreement about whether it should be classed as an STD.

You are apparently male, so what even makes you think you are what the porn industry is looking for and that you will get enough work to make it worthwhile? Especially as you have Hep C?
And are you wanting to do straight or gay porn, or both?
Getting into straight porn is virtually impossible for most men because they don't really have what it takes to do the job as well as the guys who are already doing it. Getting into gay porn, if you can do gay sex (obviously), is somewhat easier.
If you do manage to get in somewhere are you proposing to be open and honest about having Hep C? Or are you going to try and keep quiet about it?
A lot of people won't want to work with you if they know you have it. If you try to keep it secret it's probably going to come out sooner or later, one way or another. And if and when it does come out it will probably cause you all sorts of problems - even if there's little or no evidence, or proof, that you've infected someone else on set. You would still very likely get sued just for knowingly exposing someone to the risk of infection, if it emerges you knew you had it and didn't divulge the fact.

Fifty attaboys and a night with Janitor to the person that gets a (non-photoshopped) picture of a forum troll. I will give you three clues -- trolls are very hairy, smell terrible and are less than three feet tall. There aren't any pictures of the elusive forum troll in existence thus far. The Hep C poster in this thread sounds like the elusive forum troll, maybe if you can trace the guy's IP number you can find and click a picture of him.

Worse , apparently he feels the urge to do porn now that he is infected , he didn't want to when was healthy.
looks like he wants to actually spread his disease as much as he can, in fact to infect a porn performer greatly increases the risks of a thorough epidemic infection in and out of porn given their high sexually driven life style.
and might be one of the lever to force porn to cease its existence , you know if you are able to spread a disease on a so higher level and you are able to identify the origin in porn and its life style , considering how many porn stars are escorting today , you can easily expose it as a treat on a social and national level.High worries of such a nest of scum would put it to a closure

As a medical professional, I would strongly advise you against doing pornography if you have Hep C. It's a very serious and contagious disease that can easily be passed on to another. It's not like Hep A which just passes through your system after awhile with minor effects. This is one thing that should just be left as a fantasy for you.
