What do I need to do in order to make it, and not just for a few months, but for several years? Emma Voyeur [Link] |

More popular girls would regularly get $1200-1500 for a b/g. Some even more. Add in circus acts and the pay went even higher. |

| BlackSix All-Star Member pornography wasn't sex but fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world 12377 Posts 9/07 | Funnily enough, when talking about the 'dangers' of rough porn people are fond of drawing the comparison between porn performers and boxers and I always remember this quote from Jack Dempsey (via Joyce Carol Oates): "When you're fighting you're fighting for one thing: money." From its beginning, this whole industry exists solely to make money, with the huge decline in profits in the last few years it is going to be interesting to see what happens to modern pornography. What changes will this bring? |

| mharris127 Senior Member 1844 Posts 8/09 | 1. Consider very carefully whether you want your family/friends/boss/priest/rabbi finding out about your vocation. I guarantee, they will! 2. Make a list of what you like, what you are willing to do for money and what you won't do under any circumstances -- and stick to it, no matter what a producer/director tells you! Also, accept that these lists will change as you go through life -- just because you did something a day/week/month/year/decade ago doesn't mean you have to do it again. 3. Watch Porn 101 and 102 at www.aim-med.org. They will send you a free DVD if you don't have a high speed connection to view the tapes. 4. Be willing to get blood tests at AIM and pay for them monthly (it is $300 a month) -- it is almost standard to have to show an STD test to work. Also, make your partners show their most recent tests (on the set) before agreeing to work with them. 5. Don't do anal until you are good at it and it does not have to hurt. Start with your BF sticking a finger up your ass, then two, then three, then a small penis, then a larger penis/dildo. This process can take weeks to work up to a penis. 6. Live/work in California (mostly the San Fernando Valley IIRC). 7. Attend trade shows in Las Vegas twice a year to mollify your fan base and be personable in doing so. This likely costs money but builds up your fan base. 8. Tour once a year to 10-12 cities to "dance" in strip clubs (you can make money doing this, also). This builds up your fan base. I hope this helps. Also, remember don't let a scumbag director (there are all types) goad you into doing something that you are not comfortable with. You may lose one day's work but won't lose a lifetime's worth! Edited by - mharris127 on 8/20/2009 6:43:22 PM |

| mharris127 Senior Member 1844 Posts 8/09 | 1. Stay off of the hard drugs such as heroin, crystal meth, LSD, PCP, etc. 2. Take what critics say about your body with a grain of salt, you will know (in most cases) what you need to do with yourself. 3. Keep track of what scenes you do and the payment arrangements for them. Make sure you get paid for all scenes -- some scumbags will attempt to avoid paying you. 4. Carry your own "kit" to shoots. In this kit should be condoms (both latex and polyurethane), KY Jelly/lube, paper towels/baby wipes, clothing in your size for different situations, change of underwear (thong-type if female), any toys you need, Viagra (if a guy), soap, hair shampoo, a basic first aid kit, sea sponges (if female) and any prescribed medications needed that day. Also, an MP3 player and headphones with your favorite songs and some magazines to read would be a plus. 5. If you use toys, please bleach them after use -- your partners don't want any STD's from them because of use on prior partners! 6. Be clean, no one wants to screw a smelly pussy! If you have a yeast infection or an raging STD, don't work as talent! |

| JohnHenry Member 165 Posts 3/09 | Edit: Ok, I'll elaborate. I'm a relatively new performer. My girl, Charlotte has been in the biz for over a year. The advice we share are based on our own experiences as people who went from complete outsiders to making this a full time career in about 18 months. MHarris offered some good springboard points. First off though: If you're going into porn because you want to experiment with your sexuality: DON'T. Do it in private, off camera, where you can experience your wildest fantasies for YOUR enjoyment. If you find it's fun being watched and exciting to try new things, THEN you might want to consider working in porn. Like he said; look in the mirror. Someday, someone you know is going to come across a movie you've made. It might be your best friend, it might be your worst enemy, it might be your third grade teacher, it might be your dad. Are you prepared to face what comes of that? Of everyone you've ever known or ever will know (including your children) potentially finding the porn you've been in? If you're still up for this, find an agent. Not some douche from the phonebook, some 'guy you know who can hook you up.' An agent. Someone who's only interest in you is the dollars you can bring in. If all you are is money to him, the relationship starts and ends clearly as a business transaction. The business of making porn is about business, not porn. Get businessmen to back you, not someone who claims to love and cherish you. Do your homework, know your agency. There's a reason for having pages and pages on the net testifying why Mark Spielger is one of the best in the business, and why you can't find a single page praising agent Joe Schmuchatelli. If your agent hasn't earned a reputation, it's because he doesn't have one (an indication that he's changed names often enough to bury his bad rep.) Have a positive attitude. Lots of 'average' girls get work, because they're friendly and easy to work with. Lots of upper girls are snubbed because they're not. Keep your boyfriend out of your business. (I know, I come off like a hypocrite here.) Most directors have had bad 'boyfriend' experiences. Yours is more likely to be another than a help. A girl who portrays herself as 'available' is far more likely to land more work. The first time your guy storms on set to chew a director out is the last time that director (and most of his buddies) will ever work with you. Exceptions to this rule are like blonde Japanese girls. Live within your means. The first $1000 check you get may look vaguely like Prada; in fact, it looks like Rent. Save your money, be smart about what you're doing with it. You probably won't make nearly as much, per hour, as you do working in porn. Don't piss it away on purses and shoes that will collect dust in six months. Never work with someone who hasn't shown you their AIM test. Ever. Ever. Don't work with someone if you haven't shown them yours. If they'll work without your test, they'll work without someone elses, yesterday, the day before.... Keep off drugs. Drugs, shoes, and vacations are shiny pretties. Enjoy life, but know that you're living in reverse; next year, there will be someone prettier, sexier, and better paid than you. Don't be late, and never, never, never flake on a shoot. If your sick, be ready to visit the ER. If you're late, call. If you don't show, be ready to find a new career. Lots of girls are eager to take your shoot, and show the director how much sexier, wilder, and more professional they are than you. Don't give them that chance. Beyond this, if you don't have an agent, you're either incredibly wise or incredibly foolish. Agents aren't just bookers; they're your advice pipeline. It's in their interest for you to be happy, healthy, and well paid (they take a cut of your money, the more you earn, the more they earn. The more valuable you are, they more valuable you are to them.) Be completely honest with them, when in doubt ask their help, and don't EVER. MHarris, The 'standard' adult panel is the $120 HIV, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia tests. I've never seen or heard of a director or talent expect more. I'm not saying it doesn't happen; I'm saying I've never heard of it. John Edited by - JohnHenry on 8/21/2009 1:23:24 AM |
| mharris127 Senior Member 1844 Posts 8/09 | For some reason that doesn't surprise me about directors and AIM tests. Don't get me wrong, most are probably nice people (I know I would be as one) but his/her biggest concern is cranking out good material while staying this side of legal. It is the talent that I thought would require more. Frankly, I would want to know what my status was if I were out on the front lines fucking for a living and would appreciate those who felt the same. The $120 test does not do that, in my opinion. Add a syphilis test to that monthly and hepatitis testing bi-monthly and I would feel better. You can give a lot of people syphilis in the six month time frame that Sharon Mitchell advocates. Unfortunately, you have to go with the status-quo in the industry, especially if no one else thinks that the extra testing is important (I would also like to see more condoms in B/G scenes, in my opinion they usually don't ruin the scene unless it is a cream pie or swallowing scene, but others disagree). What you have is much better than nothing and seems to work well in dealing with the HIV epidemic (four cases in eight years is actually an excellent record). My suggestion to new talent is to pay the $300 and get the full STD test upon entering porn and monthly thereafter. They can think about it carefully and then decide if it is worth it to them. They have lots of experience and insights to share. If you're looking for advice, female performers should be your first target. -Keep in mind that no matter how good the advice of another person is and no matter how much experience they have, it might still not work for you. If you really intend to make this a long-lasting career, you will have to make your own decisions and make up your own rules based on what is right for you. |

| tbetts12 Member 87 Posts 11/10 | I would say dont do porn, the money for what youy may give up as far as freinds or family is not worth it. girls are telling me the 1,000 dollar for an average gonzo scene is dead. girls are getting between 400-800 now. unless you are realy popular and have boxcover power. and alot of chicks are lucky to get 1 scene a week you can work two weeks at an office job for 8.50 an hr and make that kind of money and not have to worry about someone coming across your tape. and the sex on pornsets is not that great hot lights alot of uncomfortable positions alot of starting and stopping stoping for photo stills. the good things is you get to meet alot of ppl and its a quick way to earn cash short term if u need a a bill paid, but not longterm. and you get to live in southern california. make your beest choice wish you luck. |
