Not in my house. I fucking HATE porn parodies. I wish these producers would come up with their own creative ideas instead of just ripping off somebody elses ideas.
Any type of porn that sells well and is profitable is always a good thing. Superhero movies are popular right now and if that popularity can crossover into porn that's great. I don't think it will be enough to "resuce" the porn biz but I think it can help sustain it. I don't buy or watch much parody porn but some of it looks fun. I like the idea of parody porn but with most of them the it's the actual sex scenes that often lets me down.
I can't speak for the quality of the product because I've never seen one and I probably never will but I have no problem with them since they at least sill hire performers and that's a good thing. The only problem I can see is that since they have to make a semi-believable parody then that means a much bigger production budget than your average porn movie and that can mean paying less money to the talent for their scene because so much of the budget has to go for makeup and effects.

I would like them more if they focused on the superhero, not lots of naked sex scenes of everyone else with The Incredible Hulk: A XXX Porn Parody and Wonder Woman XXX: A Hardcore Parody two examples I had described in the Christy Mack thread..Edit: Perhaps it was just those two that I was interested in that seemed to follow the same format? As looking now the Batman ones look pretty decent especially the Dark Knight looks great. Edited by - draghixafan on 7/27/2013 11:05:41 PM
Cool with a story line linking the sexual content, be it superheroes or anything else. In the end, all that matters is attractive women having dynamite sex. Superhero theme isn't going to make any real difference.
I don't mind watching a good parody flick from time to time, but it seems like the endless amount of parodies made in recent years have made them a lot less profitable.
^ For a time so many parodies were being made they didn't seem that speacial anymore. And of course many studios jumped on the bangwagon with inferior product that they turned people off to parodies. But I think parodies are in a good place now with only a couple of studios making them on a regular basis making what seems to be good ones and not churning them out for the sake of doing so. I don't understand the people who claim to not like parodies because they aren't "original". If the movie is entertaining what difference does it make whether it's an "original" story or a take-off of another film or tv show? I've seen porn movies that rip off other shows/movies/books but don't make it obvious and most people have no idea they've done so. So complaining about "orginality" in porn always seemed to be a strange thing to complain about. Most things in porn are "borrowed" from other sources and other porn as well.
Parody is an important part of pornography and always has been. I think when people say "parody" nowadays, they mean a very specific type of porn movie, one that usually doesn't feel like an innovative or fully realised porn film. There are exceptions even in the current "parody" crop, but as a rule I avoid the Vivid type ones because they are like wannabe gonzo scenes jammed into minimal and usually-boring narrative. So, my answer to the article's question is: maybe, but probably not in the long term unless they start trying to make actual features as opposed to attempting to satisfy two kinds of audience simultaneously and failing both.

No. Good superhero porn parody requires decent special effects and costumes to be kept on during the sex - neither of which the porn industry does very well.

If anything is going to rescue the porn business, I want it to be gonzo. For me, that's where the essence of all that is good and graphically pure about porn resides, not this parody nonsense. Bare thy bosoms wench, or make hasty egress. - Joseph Ducreux
Are you sure that parodies have been a part of porn for a long time? I can't remember seeing them a decade ago and let alone before that. I know that many movies have been made since the 70's that used mainstream movies as a template so maybe that's what you mean by parody but I don't consider those to be a true parody. I checked and Webster's definition of a parody implies that it's a comical imitation of someone else's work. That is what we see these days but I don't think that's 's what they made in the 70's and 80's. They did make some porn movies that had humour in them but they weren't parodying someone else's work as much as adding some comical elements to the overall movie. Of course my memory is not the greatest so you may have some examples of movies that were true parodies. I'd love it if you could name a couple so that I could check them out and see how they compare to today's stuff.
^ Yes, I am sure. When I said "always has been" I was going back to the 1500s. Pornography has been around far longer than film has, and has always "spoken back" to mainstream and legitimate culture/art/religion/politics in comical ways. However, to answer your question about commercial film pornography, see 1976's The Opening of Misty Beethoven (My Fair Lady/Pygmalion) and 1975's The Passions of Carol (A Christmas Carol), to name two off the top of my head. Also, I'm not sure how porn parodies of Hollywood films are not "comical imitations of someone else's work."
I honestly don't think that gonzo is going to rescue the porn business. Gonzo porn does seem to be struggling to make a profit these days, at least to me. The majority of porn currently produced does seem to be gonzo, so if gonzo porn were the answer wouldn't porn be out of the financial shithole they currently find themselves in? Edited by - MorganKane on 7/28/2013 1:10:15 PM
I didn't realize it went back that far but it makes sense because even softcore porn of the 50s are mostly parodies/take-offs of mainstream movies. Even the Russ Meyer stuff is parody. Most of the SOMETHING WEIRD movies from the 50s, 60s and 70s is clearly parody. Isn't the popular running joke about porn is the name of many older titles take-offs of popular films? "MY BARE LADY", "ROMANCING THE BONE", etc...Yeah, most of those movies don't really have a lot to do with the movies they parody the name from but there have been porn movies that parodied tv shows /movies in the past just not to the level they do today and they didn't use the show/movie's actual name in the title. I remember seeing a MASH parody that looked like it was from the 70s that tried to look like the tv show. I've seen a MARRIED WITH CHILDREN parody from 80s. The recent BRADY BUNCH parody that kicked off the current trend wasn't the first BRADY BUNCH parody, there was one from the 90s (or 80s). The biggest difference between back then and now is there's much more of an effort to recreate the look of the original and they use the actual name of the show/movie being parodied and the movies are strongly marketed as such.

First one that sprung to mind I remember 8 to 4 (1981) a parody of 9 to 5 clearly from my youth, but not sure if I remember it because of the parody title or the plot/sex. On the Nurses of the 407, sorry for Off-Topic but anyone recognise a similar war nurse movie from that era that has at the end a scene were guy on the table can't get hard or cum or something so they keep adding more people to help him, one girl then two girls and in the end a dude in a wheel chair joins in (I think before the tent collapses or something)?
You all gave some great examples of movies from by gone years and maybe this is just me but I don't consider those to be parodies. I just think of them as porn movies that copied the original material and added sex scenes to movie.
While the dictionary definition will say that a parody requires humor, the social definition (especially when it comes to porn) does not. Even the porn movies referenced in the article at the top of this thread aren't parodies by the definition that you're clinging to (Vivid's superhero parody movies have never been comedies, at least not intentionally). In fact, most of the porn parodies that have actually been comical were parodies of shows/movies that were comedies in the first place. Edited by - whatsatelephonebill on 7/30/2013 2:02:42 AM
something I've noticed and found interesting is that the male performers who tend to get leads in parodies don't seem to be succesful or popular when it comes to the top gonzo porn companies. For example you see richie calhoun, seth gamble, ryam driller, etc in pretty much any given parody, but when was the last time you saw any of those guys in an elegant angel movie? jules jordan? evil angel? even brazzers doesn't use those guys.
I personally will not ever spend my money on a parody but it's not like it bothers me that they exist, but I guess enough people like them that a profit is still made off them. Really what I'm trying to say is, I can't see people who love gonzo ever suddenly becoming interested in parodies so I don't think parodies will ever catch on anymore than they alrady have. Parodies have their audience, and I think it'll stay that way.
But that's understandable because most of the biggest/successful parodies are done by studios that usually do features. The studios that do features usually have their go to cast of guys that mostly do feature work. Most of those guys are able to act (by porn standards) and are better looking than the average Gonzo guy and that's where their porn strengths are.
That's true. What's interesing is that the parody haters keep wanting to see parodies go away even though they don't really affect them in any way. Even if the porn parody tripled in wouldn't affect what happens in Gonzo because most parodies are done by studios and performers that don't do usually Gonzo anyway. When parodies were at their height they never affected the output of JULES JORDAN, EVIL ANGEL, ELEGANT ANGELS, etc...And it's not like gonzo fans got less of Jynx Maze, Asa Akira, Pheonix Marie, or any of the popular gonzo girls because they were busy doing parody work because they didn't do much if any at all. So there's no reason for Gonzo fans to want to see parodies go away other than not wanting it to exist simply because they don't like it.
And yet ironically this more accurately describes the current "parodies" than it does the parodies we have suggested to you. Have you seen any of the parodies we have mentioned? I am still unsure of how you are distinguishing between "parody" and "true parody" and why porn parodies of Hollywood film are not parodies. Edited by - Gore Gore Girl on 7/30/2013 10:13:30 AM
^I have seen all of the movies that were suggested. I don't think the problem is with anyone but me since a parody can be things like those movies that were suggested.
I refuse to watch any kind of parodies. To my eye they are ridiculous and I like my females naked not wearing a cheap imitations of a Wonder Woman suit.

Well you are in luck then because today's porn caters pretty much exclusively to your wants :( Maybe not rescue, and not exactly superhero, but a DVD dedicated to a hot blonde in this outfit would go a helluva a long way :D
I've personally always wondered what a porn parody would be like done by "harder" directors/studios. Like what would a porn parody done by the JULES JORDAN or EVIL ANGEL studios? They'd probably fall short on the acting parts of the movie but the sex would be more to my liking. I think the best superhero parody was BATFUCK (or whatever it was called) done by BLUEBIRD FILMS. The casting was great because it had more Gonzo girls who you don't normally see in porn parodies. The costumes were great because they went for sexy versions of the costumes instead of trying to accurately match the originals. The sex scenes were better because they weren't the more vanilla type of scenes we see in most parodies and were actually pretty good.To top it off the whole thing loked rather cool and styilized. But for whatever reason no one made a big deal over that film.

They're not very sexy. Reality, in my opinion, is sexy. Get a natural sexy girl like Penny Pax in a realistic setting having realistic type sex (i.e. not contortionist sex), maybe with kinky music playing, is what I think is sexy, not superhero sex.
It's not a parody, but have you seen PURE, a remake of the 1970s film IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES? Evil Angel made it - it stars Asa Akira and Keni Styles, and is really very good in terms of sex, acting, and narrative flow.

I think you might like Tessa Taylor, inconceivably cute with the most perfect natural bod and perky tanlined breasts and her scenes always feel very genuine
I find it strange that no one has made a sexy Wonder Woman parody. I know Tori Black starred in a Wonder Woman parody and there was a JUSTICE LEAGUE parody but I didn't think either girl made a sexy Wonder Woman. Tori's WW costume all wrong and not sexy and quite frankly Tori wasn't a good casting choice. The costume worn by the girl in the JL movie was more accurate but not sexy. How can porn movies end up with costumes and girls who aren't even as sexy as the costume and Lynda Carter from the 70s or most of the cos players who dress up as WW?

^ Definitely, having also just had a look at the Justice League casting. The Wonder Woman parody was disappointing on many levels, only one WW scene, just a basic couch porn scene, the costume was average, and overall was more just like your standard outfit scene, and Tori Black I agree really wasn't a good choice, but I suspect was probably more a Studio star than suitability decision? I do reckon Ava Addams would be perfect, and if she was cool with it, blue contacts almost a lookalike? And in a movie with all WW scenes - Ava Addams as Wonder Woman. Parodies are not my first pick, but I have a few in my collection. I was a nerd growing up so seeing porn parodies of scifi flicks and super hero shows are sometimes amusing. I don't know if "Pirates" count as a parody per se, but I did love that movie. I don't think parodies will save the industry, but it's not going to hurt it! Edited by - LeadingEdge on 8/15/2013 7:55:19 AM
To answer the thread title, I don't see how parodies will single-handedly "rescue" porn but with cosplay being more popular with people I think it can contribute to porn's survival as long as some thought and work goes into them, a cheap crude knock-off won't help the situation but a high-quality production of something that has a large fan base would almost certainly be profitable.
i believe scifi porn is the answer.... lets take a typical superhero porn right.... basicly it covers a newaged fetish people have for spandex where the actors dont take off their spandex pants where else they tear a hole at the crotch.. (madison parker in her purple spandex) also scifi porn would be something cool as to see a man with lets say a mermaid. or an alien with a space traveller.. ( this could be a saviour for lesbian porn where they could use alot of sex toys to play it) we all want and deserv something different then the usual porn
