You see, certain porns that are widely available in the USA are considered "obscene" in Canada, and their import is illegal. I talked to Canada customs, and they confirmed this. They have a checklist and they prohibit anything to cross the US-Canada border that is described on the checklist. Anyway, what is completely retarded about this is they don't allow importation of movies that are already here. For example: Taboo 1-4 are available in the Canadian Chain "AOV" and they can be ordered on the internet from Canadian distributors. However, once a single consumer attempts to purchase one of these titles from an American distributor, they are charged with importation of obscene materials. Don't ask me how Canadian companies get ahold of large quantities of these films to distribute, but my beef is that the Canadian government seems to be picking on the single consumer's rights to buy pornography. I believe it depends on what province you live in. I live in Quebec and have no problem receiving pornographic material (even from Europe) due to a more liberal provincial jurisdiction. I doubt very much that a person in say, Saskatchewan, can receive the same material. It is very important though, that the exporter does not mention that the contents are pornographic. It is sufficient to declare the contents as just a "DVD".One of the smartest shipping methods I've seen came from DVD Extreme. They put the disc & cover (without case) in a USPS Express envelope. This method does not need a customs declaration, so it doesn't get stopped. All I have to do is buy a replacement case which only costs a couple of bucks. Here in Ontario it's weird. For example I can go buy Rocco: Animal Trainer #4 DVD off the shelf at my local adult video store, but if I were to order it through the mail from the States it would get confiscated by Customs because it has some rough stuff in it. But it's leagal if it's on the shelf. Not so for VHS, all VHS are regulated here. If you as a company want to distribute adult tiles here in Ontario, you have to pay an Ontario Government panel to review your tape and edit out any thing that is against the law (rape, degradation, pissing etc.. but fisting is legal).I find it quite amazing that a company would have to pay the Government to censor you, now that's retarded. And they will soon try and regulate DVD's, but to edit them and make new discs is too expensive, they will probaly just ban certain titles if there is anything they don't like in them. Customs once confiscated one of the tapes I ordered from the U.S. because there was some rough stuff in it. I ordered about 10 tapes over 1 years time, and customs viewed every single one(I know because they didn't rewind them). I've heard of the Cambria list controversy in the States, and all I have to say is that I would resist any attempt by the Government to regulate what you watch in the privacy of your own home. Once you lose that freedom, it's practically impossible to get it back.[Link] |

Which site Canadian site did you order from? I've been having some trouble with dvddynamic.com here in Canada and am looking for somebody else that is reputable. You have nothing to worry about in regards to AT#4. Currently all dvd titles you buy in Canada come directly from the States and are unedited. It is possible to edit a dvd, but it is very expensive, and I doubt any company in Canada would be willing make their own run of discs off an edited movie anyway (especially having to pay for the discs and the graphics and title name that get stamped on during production). But I was told that here in Ontario they will start reviewing dvd's soon. Which means the selection here will drastically drop due to them not allowing certain titles in.[Link] |

BTW, don't you think it's ironic that it's a bunch of currupt politicians that are deciding what's "obscene" or not? But that leads to an entirely different debate, so I'll quit there...[Link] |

It pisses me off that customs officers pick on the little guy and not the corporations that import this stuff. Also the fact that they can censor what is obviously a fictional depiction (intended for adults) from adults infuriates me.[Link] |
