The CRTC's CanCon (Canadian Content) policies have come under fire for many reasons before, but this is the first time I've heard of a company getting in trouble for not having enough Canadian porn.

And while whole solo sites "may not appeal to a mass audience", whatever that means, there doesn't mean that some of those sites don't have content on them that would work to help fill up a channel. And it doesn't have to fill up an entire channel, just a third of it so that they can use American/European porn to fill out the rest. (Probably not though.) But the issue was more that they were just under the required time, not that they didn't have any at all. In fact one of the three channels owned by the company did have enough CanCon. But the other two were just under. Also: if you know anything about CanCon rules and/or if you read some of the articles on this, you'll see that what is considered CanCon is based on a certain points system, where for any given production, a certain number of points are awarded for having the main star as Canadian, a certain number for a Canadian director, another number for a Canadian producer, etc. So, for example, a scene with Eric Everhard fucking Shyla Stylez shot by Brandon Iron would count towards their CanCon quota, even if the scene was shot for an American company. Likewise, since Mile High is headquartered in Montreal, you could have two American stars fucking each other in a Mile High release, and it still counts towards CanCon. Not as much as if the stars were Canadian of course, but it still counts. In that way, you can show a few less '100% Canadian' scenes, if many of your non-Canadian scenes have some CanCon points awarded to them. [Link] |

Again, the channels did actually come very close to having enough CanCon. But they didn't quite make it. If anything it was probably a clerical error more so than a lack of ability to find CanCon points. [Link] |
