"Performer X is really a bitch, she's a diva, she's feuding with Performer Y, etc." For a long time my consistent position about what a performer is "really" like off-camera (using scare-quotes because most fans piece these supposed real personalities together from gossip) was of no concern to me at all. My standard has been to judge a performer solely on their performances. I feel the same way about other forms of entertainment too. For example, there are many stories that show quite clearly that Jack White is an egotistical asshole. There are lots of rumors that Conan O'Brien runs his show like a harsh taskmaster. And you can find actual video of David O. Russell being absolutely brutal towards the actors who work on his films. Does any of this influence how I judge their art? Not in the slightest. Creative works rise or fall solely on their own merit. Anything else is irrelevant to the actual work. People act like performers are obligated to be exemplary individuals or really good to their fans. I think it's a nice bonus when that happens, but it's not a necessity. All any star owes fans are solid performances. Who they "really" are is irrelevant. At least that's what I thought. However, after mulling it over some more, I realized that my enjoyment of my favorite porn film, Asa Akira Is Insatiable 2 is premised in large part on my impression that in the interviews we are getting an authentic look at Asa as a person. Asa's discussions with Mason about her sexual growth, that she seemingly was in truth a bold, confident women with perverted appetites and urges all her own, gave the scenes an added layer of intensity that is hard to put into words. Would it matter to me if it was revealed that those glimpses of her persona were just another performance? That she was in reality nothing like the person she portrayed? I think it would. So I guess it's a little more complicated than I thought. What do you all think? Edited by - Mister Fahrenheit on Feb 23 2016 [Link] |

| rose1303 Member 55 Posts 1/16 | If someone is a mess or a jerk in their personal life, it kinda ruins it for me. Like I can't watch a Tom Cruise movie anymore cause I just think of Scientology. Porn-wise, Asa Akira is not really my "type" normally. But her personality is so awesome to me that I do want to watch and pay for her scenes, and support her. So yeah, I do want to support the girls who have their heads on straight and have great personalities. Edited by - rose1303 on 2/23/2016 5:39:08 PM |
