I hope so! PLATINUM PARADISE is my favorite Cecil Howard film, and I've been suggesting it to Media Blasters as their next adult release. Time will tell, I guess. It couldn't hurt to e-mail the company to suggest it.
Sorry for the delayed reply but I wanted to make sure before I said anything. We've been a bit backed up here so NEON NIGHTS was a bit delayed. However, it came in today and should ship today and be available for purchase by the end of the week.
It's another handsome edition with great extras and a stunning picture. I hope you'll find it more than worth the wait.
Thanks for the response. If it's anything like the release for Babylon Pink it will definitely be worth the wait. Any word yet on if you will be offering anymore of Command's line?
Further releases are up in the air at the moment. We're trying to create some awareness for the current titles through reviews. But since review copies (of BABYLON) were sent out right before the holidays, we're still awaiting reviews. Hopefully they'll start coming in and get some positive word out there and generate sales. Word of mouth helps too!
Of course, this is the same AVN that informs us Gregory Dark is about to direct his first mainstream feature; Gregory Dark, director of Secret Games , Animal Instincts , Indecent Advances . . . and Cafe Flesh ?
re: VCX being the exclusive distributor of Babylon Pink" & "Neon Nights", word has it that they are selling them high to distributors. Thankfully it came to them also as it seems that they are not releasing any new titles for January & comps in February.
All we know at this point is that VCX negotiated this deal with Meidia Blasters as well as Cecil Howard himself. It probably will mean that these classic titles will no doubt be avilable through more distributors / stores.....time will certainly tell.
Holy Shit! I just watched the Neon Nights DVD and it's completely uncut! The Jamie Gillis fisting scene was included after all, totally restored to its former glory! I was so shocked I had to watch the entire sequence again to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
Thank you Cecil Howard and Media Blasters for having the courage to release Neon Nights in the original uncensored version. I hope this sets a precedent for future Golden Age classics on DVD.
Haven't had chance to watch the extras yet, but Media Blasters have done another good job with the colour transfer. The source material is nowhere near as clean as Babylon Pink, with a significant amount of grain in some scenes and noticeable film artifacts. Overall though, it's another fantastic effort, and easily the best ever presentation of Neon Nights.
re. VCX as "Exclusive Distributors" of the Media Blasters' Command Cinema releases (i.e., Babylon Pink and Neon Nights) -- just add "in the adult market" and it all becomes clear...
Actually, as far as I know, this is an ABBREVIATED version of what was originally in there. It walks the line between extreme fingering and fisting... Granted, it's still shocking, isn't it?! My jaw hit the floor! I was left with enough footage to know that it took the viewer completely out of the movie and didn't reflect the sexual emotions of a typical Cecil Howard film. I'm glad I've seen it, for completist's sake, but if it had gone on further, it would have marred the original film for me.
It should also be noted that BABYLON PINK features a Georgina Spelvin pissing sequence that I don't recall seeing on my tape version. Returning to the camera negs can turn up all kinds of wonderful material, huh? :)

I have a VHS tape of Neon Nights which I bought some time during the mid '90s, and the Jamie Gillis - Linda Vale scene was heavily edited in that version. The DVD, however, shows the full fist insertion.
I've just done a direct comparison between the DVD and the censored VHS. The two versions are identical until 2.56 - 3.21 on the DVD when Jamie Gillis is shown initially inserting 3 fingers in Linda Vale's pussy and 1 in her ass, then 4 fingers in her pussy. This sequence is entirely missing from the VHS.
The next difference occurs between 4.03 - 4.17 on the DVD when Jamie works his entire hand into Linda's pussy. This shot was also removed from the VHS.
Finally, 4.32 - 5.05 on the DVD shows the full fist insertion. Needless to say, this entire sequence was missing from the VHS.
It may be that a more complete version of this scene does exist, but I would be surprised. I wonder if the final disc release differs from your advanced screener?
Loved the Jamie Gillis interview btw, and I'm looking forward to watching the remaining extras over the next couple of days.
Ha! I'm glad NEON didn't disappoint, Wanderer. I think the issue was that there is extended fisting footage in existence that supposedly goes beyond what's already there that Cecil didn't want on the disc. Seems difficult to imagine! But that is my understanding. Sorry for the confusion.
Meanwhile, the reviews for BABYLON are starting to trickle in. And they're nice 'n positive. I've pasted them below for anyone wanting more detailed info about the disc.
As RYork mentioned, there is a longer version available, but it would definitely not have fit in with the film or Cecil Howard's vision. What remains is shocking enough, and a real jolt considering it's the first sex scene of the film!
I'm glad you liked the Jamie Gillis interview! I sat down with him for about 70-80 minutes and editing it down to a featurette length was apparently quite tough for the Media Blasters staff because there was so much good material! There were some great stories which weren't in there, including his memories of Shauna Grant, Serena (including some wild stories of her post-porn days), Rebecca Brooke, Darby Lloyd Rains, directors Joe Sarno and Joel Reed, and appearing in two XXX DRACULA films back-to-back. But what remains is a treasure trove of hardcore history lessons, and I was glad that MB chose to include as much as they could on limited disc space. Gillis is an incredible guy; a feature-length documentary discussing his career would be a good idea!
Well, I'm delighted that you restored the missing footage from the VHS version. It's mind boggling to think that even stronger material exists somewhere. Probably safer to keep it under lock and key!
I'm definitely pushing for PLATINUM PARADISE to be the next release, or one of two if MB decides to do another pair. Just hearing the theme song over the Cecil Howard video art gallery leaves me gasping for a pristine digitally remastered transfer of the flick! Time (and number of sales) will tell, so spread the word, write customer reviews at e-tailers, and drop a line to Media Blasters letting them know you will support further Command Video releases.
I'm curious what people think of the REST of Neon Nights?! That wild opening scene of Gillis and his escalating-digits insertion tends to take center stage when you talk about the movie, as other posts indicate. But it's a testament to the quality of the film that it can hold its own after the 'fist-start'. This is one quality flick, integrating story, kinky sex, aesthetically-shot female bodies (a rarity in porn, I find), power dynamics between men and women, magic and mystery, plus that heavy psychological undercurrent that drives it all. I will be watching this DVD many more times -- and not JUST the fisting scene!
I can say that Media Blasters is still actively looking to release more classic adult films, including more Cecil Howard films, but don't know what their plans are for specific titles or the status of the next Raincoat releases. I will try to get an e-mail address of someone to write to, requesting more Cecil Howard titles.
I would like very much to see more Cecil Howard movies released on dvd. I enjoyed the extras and think this is the way the classics should be released. They provided some interesting background information on the various people involved and I didn't mind paying a little extra for this material. But if the budget didn't allow the full blown treatment for future releases I'd be glad to just to have the movies.
The best way to contact the company looks to be through RYork, so if you can e-mail him off-forum, that's probably best. I'm Jonesin' for more Cecil Howard, too, but haven't heard yet if the next ones have been licensed.
OK, guys, I'll be trying to direct Media Blasters more often to this thread, so if you would please list the next two Cecil Howard titles you're more anxious to see, let 'er rip! If you know any classic adult fans, ask them to post here, too, let's see if we can show there is definitely invested interest in continuing the Cecil Howard Collection!!
When further Cecil Howard discs are done, I'd like to talk to Media Blasters about possibly adding more Command Cinema trailers to them. It would provide further interest for more of these classics to hit DVD. All of Cecil Howard's trailers are excellent. Even PLATINUM PARADISE, showing no footage from the film, but filled with hyperbole and that incredible theme song.
FIRESTORM and STAR ANGEL compete for the top spot as Cecil Howard's best drama, but the edge goes to STAR ANGEL for me. It's simply haunting.
Firestorm and Star Angel work for me as well. Firestorm for Joanna Storm's amazing work and Angel in Star Angel. In fact, anything these two ever did should be on DVD. I've always wanted to see Georgia Peach (Peach Fuzz). I wonder if anybody here has seen it and could comment?
are those the same movie (Georgia Peach-Peach Fuzz)-- ?? I actually have a 16mm copy but haven;t watched. But I have seen Final Sin, it's really intense and has an early usage of video monitoring mixed up in the plot. I just sort of assumed that Howard's earlier films didn't have the core audience that would justify a DVD (as his 80's films do). Maybe they could be put out as double features?
I don't understand why more trailers aren't included on discs, especially golden age releases. This would be a good way to introduce some movies to those who may not be familiar with some of the older classics. And occasionally the trailers are worth having because they're better than the movie!
But I think the trailors should be from the same era as the feature. If they throw on a half a dozen trailors of flicks featuring the stars from the movie on the dvd I bet it could generate a few more sales or rentals.
I believe that the first two Cecil Howard discs didn't have more trailers on them because it was a deal for two films as a test run. Now that they've done well, I hope more trailers can be included to spark more interest in future discs.
The bigger titles in Cecil Howard's library would be post-1980 probably, but I think FANTASEX and GEORGIA PEACH would do well, they've been hailed as classics for years. A series of double-features pairing his older films (PERSONALS, HOT SHOTS, HEAT WAVE, FINAL SIN, ILLUSIONS OF LOVE, FAREWELL SCARLETT, LECHER, HOT HOUSE) is a good idea.
hey, thanks -- I was unclear on the prod. date of CH's film due to this confusion. Now I got it. BTW, imdb.comlists as 1977 I also have a John Holmes movie just called "Fuzz", also dated 1976. any connection...?
For whatever reason, I remember seeing "Peach Fuzz" on the marquee of my town's porno theatre while on a school bus with my track team. It caused a few outbursts of laughter and a grim look on the track coach's face. That was my freshman year in the fall of 1977.
I talked with Richard via e-mail and he apologizes for the lack of updates. At the current time they have no more Command titles on their schedule but are in negotiations with Cecil Howard to release more. They are also looking into a couple of other classic titles that aren't from the Commmand library but at the current time he can't share any info on that venture.
re. Peach Fuzz on marquee -- people who were around back in the day usually have some fond memory or two about adult movies intersecting with daily life in some way... personally, I love the nostalgia value. One memory I have is being about 8 and overhearing my mother's friend talking with her about having gone to see I Am Curious (Yellow). It was playing in our city of 25,000. Got me curious, all right.
re. Media Blasters future classic X releases...after CH, we might expect them to go for some other 'marquee value' titles -- ???
PHILADELPHIA - HotMovies.com, a pay-per-minute porn provider, has entered into an exclusive Internet deal to distribute two of adult cinema icon Cecil Howard’s rare Command Cinema Classics titles Babylon Pink (1979) and Neon Nights (1981).
The films, available for Internet download or streaming exclusively at HotMovies, were re-released by VCX earlier this year on DVD after more than 15 years on the shelf. They feature classic starlets such as Samantha Fox, Vanessa Del Rio, and Arcadia Lake. Neon Nights was just inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame.
“Fans have been writing in asking for these movies since the DVDs launched,” says HotMovies Director of Business Development James Seibert. “It’s a great deal for both companies. Mr. Howard, one of the true greats of the 35 mm days, gets the online exposure that only HotMovies can deliver, and we get some of the finest adult films ever put on celluloid.”
HotMovies.com is the only place on the Internet to have a distribution agreement for the wildly popular Taboo line distributed by Addictive Entertainment. With the recent addition of more than 100 archival films from the Historic Erotica series distributed by Global Media International and consistent updates from VCX, HotMovies.com continues to build its library of classics.
Command Cinema’s well-plotted, expensively produced titles have been revered since they appeared, and for almost as long they’ve been difficult to find. Howard was ever a film guy and stopped distributing VHS tapes early on. After a hiatus, he began looking for the best thing to do with his sought-after movies, eventually brokering the deal with HotMovies.
The films are noteworthy for offering a female perspective—providing fantasy sequences that arouse far more than the average gonzo scene. The ladies take part in spicy fantasy adventures with hot, well-paced action and a sometimes tongue-in-cheek tone. The movies are, as reviewers have pointed out, what most porn should aspire to be.
As the demand is high for the two re-released titles, Howard says he is considering releasing more of the Command catalogue in the future.
Cecil Howard,by far and away is my favorite director of all time.I'm glad that Neon Nights at least made it to DVD,that film has a very special meaning to me,when I was in the 10th grade my friend and I ditched school to go see this and to me it was the greatest movie at the time for me.Fortunately for me Cecil Howard's Command titles were the first thing that I started to collect when I started to purchase VHS tapes.I do hope that one day all of the great Command titles will be available on DVD.The titles I would be most anxious to see make it to DVD would be Firestorm,Platinum Paradise,Jailbait(Carter Stevens)Spitfire and Dangerous Stuff.
Snake Eyes is Laurie Smith at her best.I've got it on Beta unfortunately. To me this is the best Cecil Howard film made. I can't remember the blond name but she was smoking hot too. I'm not talking about Joanna Storm either
