exactly what is the deal with receptions of most Cells. Whenever you're in a building you notice people always huddle near a window or large windowed doors etc. Are Cells operating on the same crappy frequency that AM radios use? I listen to a lot of AM and when riding the bus or in a building the reception is blotted out. This I know, for one reason, is because of force fields on buses and in buildings caused by strong security & lighting systems. But will this kind of reception stoppage be overcome with Cells & AM radio frequencies?

There are no force fields in play. Dump that concept.
A bus is, however, a Faraday cage.
A cell phone has a limited antenna and little power to amplify a signal. A lot of filtering needed. What is left is often not so great. A cell phone is also a transiever. Transmitting out is more of an issue.
In other words, metal and enough thickness of cement absorbs signals. Each material has a specific set of frequencies it will be more efficient in absorbing, but will affect things across the board.
If you drive through tunnels, you will also notice bad FM reception, so this is certainly not limited to AM.
With the lighting, you are picking up some of the signal from the power (florescents are really bad) and your radio is amplifying this. Again, no blocking but your radio cannot seperate the good signal from electronic noise. This is part of the basis for electronic warfare. A jamming signal is simply a stronger transmission (locally) through a set of frequencies.

Cell phones don't operate at the frequencies AM radio does - their operating frequencies are much, much higher.

Radio waves can, in effect "bend" around obstacles - walls, trees, etcetera, but how much they can do that depends on their frequency. For higher frequencies, they can barely do that - which is why you see people near windows and doors. Out there, there are less obstacles between you and the towers, and thus a better signal (hopefully).

i think we've basically got stuff at the 8xx band and the 1900something which are kinda too fast to bounce around stuff like thick walls without suffering attenuation. sometimes in urban areas you have situations where you're going to have 2 waves perfectly out of sink with the other one and it results in destructive interference which means they basically zero out the amplitude. it'd make sense if i had a pencil and i'm too lazy to look up a picture of it. lots of stuff, lots of seriously-thick construction in the walls of large buildings to support their weight to the point it's almost hopeless for the company to point directionals at it, put stuff in basements, etc. cavernous cities can be as bad as alaska sometimes to make a call even if it's full of antennas.
