Not necessarily. If a director finds a niche or section of the market with enough footfall to comfortably make money, then they don't need to cater to everybody. And remember, it doesn't have to be that most porn fans like stockings, but that most don't mind them for it to not be an issue. Plus, most stockings have holes or some level of transparency so that I've still been able to appreciate the performer's feet anyway.
