What it really comes down to is whether this is a forum where we exchange honest information and opinions about porn and porn actresses, or whether it's more a sort of pick-your-performers fan club. Where no dreams or fantasy views are messed with. Well, after letting it go for days, I've decided it's the former and to say something.

As well, this all relates to my irritation and thorough disbelief in the "really, they're just acting" school of placing porn actresses on a certain sort of thoroughly unreal, and thoroughly uninformed pedestal. (In my view).

I strongly suspect that the rumours are largely true. If so, I wish Chaisy all the best, and recovery. I for one will enjoy her just as much, and maybe more, if she does successfully come back from her current very bad problems, if they are true.

One place, and probably the core place, where the rumors and their rebuttal can be read is on Luke Ford's industry gossip web site. (It's a frames site which prevents linking to exact spots within the site. Click on stars near the top, then "L", then "Chaisy Lain".) After having spent a lot more time reading the archives at that web site over the last week than watching porn, and finding it fascinating, I feel I've come to have a pretty good feel for what's basically true there, and what's BS. This looks largely true, although some add on details such as her having been reduced to hooking for $100 a pop may WELL not be.

What Luke's all about is creating controversy and gossip interest, and is hardly above stirring the pot from time to time. This leads him to first post gossip more or less however it comes in to him, and get around to checking truth later, after the interest is created. But he also does get around to posting the other side of the story when that comes in to him. In fact he usually goes out and looks for the other side. Generally the really bogus stuff comes in because someone in the biz is pissed at someone else and phones or emails it into Luke. There may be some kernel of truth (or not) that's so distorted as to be completely misleading -- just like real world dissing. Often this is relationship problems or other jealousy motivated stuff. Or revenge for screwing someone over.

In the Chaisy case that doesn't seem to be how Luke first got his information. Rather he seems to have gotten it from some concerned Vivid staffers. The counter story which he also posts looks very much like some of Chaisy's friends and fans rallying behind her and then Vivid issuing a release to try to cover up for her fan base. As well, I suspect Luke avoids really nailing the story with follow up digging after breaking it, out of consideration for Chaisy and not wanting to have hard info that could hurt her comeback, given the nature of this scandal. (I.e., there's much more reason to feel sorry for her than anything else.) Read the Luke site on her and make up your own mind, if this interests you.

I contemplated cutting and pasting the key relevant stuff, but decided against it. Some of it is too lurid. But I will paste this short summary by Luke after skeptics came in:

Thank you, dex. I was beginning to think that her little stretch in jail must have been just a bad dream ~ or maybe research for a role she was doing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not passing judgement on her. In fact, I really don't understand all the hoohaa, this shit goes on all the time, and not only in porn. It's just that this is a press release, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt.
