I recently noticed on my computer that I can't log into any chat rooms. When i goto the ADT chat room page, the page loads, except for the place you log in your name. All i get there is like a blank box with a little symbol in the upper left corner, looks like a box, with a red sqaure, green circle and blue triangle in it. Also I can't log into yahoo chat either. Does anyone know what might be the problem, or if there might be some setting i change. My dad was changing some stuff the other day, but he has no idea what he did. Thanks in advance for any help.

Perhaps he installed an anti-virus or personal firewall program that blocks java applets or IRC ports?

Dick,

I had that problem not too long ago and contacted Drew about it. With me it was the security settings in the browser that wouldn't accept the java script (or applet).

Check the security settings in your browser and try lowering them a notch. When I did that it worked for me.

I think Saki might be onto it here. He installed Norton Anti Virus, but I just went in and disabled the script blocking feature, but the chat stuff still won't load. I guess i'll just figure it out, or i won't goto chat rooms anymore. As for my security thing, it's been set to medium since day 1 on this computer, I tried lowering it too but that didn't work either.

Do you mean Norton Internet Security? I don't think NAV interferes with any browsing capability. A friend of mine had problems with NIS and getting chat programs to function correctly. I don't think he bothered to figure it out though, I think he just stopped using it.

you can also try an irc client, like mirc, and chat that way if you still have problems..
