The ADT chat server is functional. You can reach it at chat.adultdvdtalk.com . The room name is #adt . Drop in and we can test it for a bit.
I am working on a web based java chat page similar to the one at DVD Talk but for the moment you will need an IRC compatible client like mIRC. You can download mIRC at [url=468608]http://www.mirc.com

Drew, thanks for the link to download IRC. I'm looking forward to spending hours in the ADT chatroom.

I got it to work but it took a little fiddling with mirc.
The IRC server is actually chat.adultdvdtalk.com . don't use the http or it doesn't work.<small>

Anyone know of a good html or java based IRC chat client? I checked out the code from Geoff's site and it won't work for us here.

Ok, whenever I try to get to the chat site, it gives me the message "You are not authorized to view this page." How can I fix this so I can get to the chatroom?

It should let anyone in. It's configured to accept anonymous connections. I'll tinker with it some more later this evening and post my findings.

That is the same problem I had when clicking on the link above (well it was a link). Use Mirc and it should work fine.

Whenever I start up MIRC and add #adt to the room list, then join that chat room, it still lists me as the only person there. Is there a special setting I need to use?

That's most likely because you were the only one there at the time. I was away from the computer most of the evening. Let's pick a time to get a group of people on the server to test it. I want to make sure that it can handle the load before Steph lines up one of the industry people to join us for a little Q & A session.

If you got into the right chanel you should have seen this.
I was idle in their most of the evening (but not all) so you should have seen me (dug-is-away).

Just one quick comment: #dvdtalk is on irc.ram-page.com. Dunno about everyone else, but I think it'd be great to be able to participate in both channels on the same server (and within the same copy of mIRC.)
When I first read above that the chat channel would be on chat.adultdvdtalk.com, I was disappointed. But then I dropped by rampage and checked into #adt, and found that that channel has obviously been registered. Oddly, I dropped by #adultdvdtalk and it seemed to direct me to the same place!
So what's the deal? Are #adt on chat.adultdvdtalk.com, #adt on irc.ram-page.com, and #adultdvdtalk on irc.ram-page.com all the same server?
Hmm...

When I join the chat, it just gives me the message, "Now talking in #adt." No topic listed.
I guess I'll play around with it some more, and see what I can do.

David - Kinky was kind enough to register #adt and #adultdvdtalk for us at Ram-Page a couple of weeks back. I checked into their terms and conditions of use. They may have a problem with adult content.
The adult content issue can be a real problem at times. To get around it (and not have to pay through the nose for hosting services) we have set up our own web, forum and chat servers. This may seem like the expensive route to go but in the long run it's the best thing.
I also like the control of having our own equipment. If someone becomes a problem it's real easy to trace them down and take action if necessary.

Soundls like you are on the wrong IRC server.
Drew
Is there anyway to get a chatroom help? I was wondering if I could register my nick and all the help options I know don't work.

Which server should I be on, and how can I change that?

hmmm ... I wondered about ram-page's policies at the time of registration, but found them to be very ambiguous at best.
To be useful, the adt chat server should support nickserv so that users do not masquerade as somebody else on the channel.
(chanserv is not so much of an issue since you own the IRC server anyway).
It will be quite confusing for the people to switch between two IRC servers if they want to participate in both #dvdtalk and #adt. We should definitely have a java client applet and/or clear instructions on how to define two servers on their client (say, mIRC).

When you start up mirc you should have an options dialog box open. Click the add button in that box. Put in chat.adultdvdtalk.com as the IRC server. Make sure you put in a descrition also (it doesn't matter what you call it). Now click ok and then connect to the server and join room #adt. Hopefully that should work. If you have any other probems or have no clue what I said let me know.

Richard - thanks for handling the tech support here in the forum. I am new to this IRC stuff too.
Kinky - the IRC server that we are using is the MS Exchange Chat server. People can connect using Microsoft Chat is they desire. I'm sure there are pros and cons for MS vs. mIRC. I will look into the nickserve capabilities of the software.
I read through the limited info available at Ram-Page. My real fear is that they might have a problem with the content of some of the #adt chats and that it would indirectly have an impact on Geoff's ability to use their services. Although ADT and DVD Talk are operated distinctly different groups, misperceptions can often be a huge problem. I want to avoid these types of problems at all costs.

Just tested the chat room. Works fine, although there is some bum that is always there by the name of duganrm.

There hasn't been much life in the chatroom recently. You will know you are in the right room if you come across a duganrm, dug-is-away, or dug-is-asleep. I don't mind talking and I am around a lot.
If anyone else needs help setting up MIRC I have been using it for about 4 weeks and can understand it well enough to partially explain.
