Are you talking about the NUTECH "Classics Collection" version? This is the one I have, along with "Aunt Peg's Fulfilment". I'd be interested to know what's missing because it's been so long (20 years??!!) since I saw any other versions that I didn't notice any cuts this time round.

So the theatre theory sounds good, but not completely accurate. It might be accurate for the late 70's feature films, but less likely accurate for the mid 80's feature films.

I'm aware that editing is done for legal reasons. However, they should tell their buyers that the product you are buying is an edited version .

Most violent, forced-sex, fantasy rape, hard bondage, incest, and underage theme sequences were generally not removed from VHS prints until around 1990 or so--at least in those cases where the title was still available (many original VHS companies went out of business between 1984 and 1990, and their catalogues went into limbo). The editing of classic porn has been a long continuous process of censorship, as more and more "obscene" material is removed from each film with each new edition. VCA, who holds the largest collection of classic titles, has been the one of the worst offenders in this regard.

The Adventures of Buttman was reedited (in a good way) for DVD. We added some things that John was afraid were too rough between Tianna and Jamie Gillis back then, extended an anal scene, and added some other footage too. Cleaned the whole thing up and remastered it.

M.B. is right on the money about companies just using old video transfers, and often these are cut. But sometimes companies re-edit those video transfers (PAMELA MANN, for example) anyway. Also, who says prints/original elements still exist for these films? Many companies ditched negatives and film prints, instead believing the video age rendered film meaningless. Many films exist only on 1" tape masters, and sometimes only their edited versions.

Funny that companies will release videos with unauthorized soundtracks (Pino Donaggio's themes for CARRIE appear throughout NuTech's HONEY THROAT DVD, Caballero's AFTERNOON DELIGHTS features an unauthorized cover of the Starlight Vocal Band song), but when it comes to possibly offensive scenes which won't get them into trouble, those are sliced right out.

Another reason for the editing some classics nowadays,with regards to our releases for example - are that our distributors are under heavier fire (government) than before. Even though most of out films were shot in the '70's, it takes only one instance to level the whole line...
