I heard Dion a few weeks back mention that Lexington Steele's DVDs where selling like 10,000 units at RLD. It seems like a fairly good number for Gonzo stuff but what do I know? Steve H. from Vivid said that he sold like 100,000 of Briana Loves Jenna . I remember a few years back Seymore saying that when Shane left him and started "Shane's World" she was selling like 7,000-10,000 units and that he thought it was good but not as good as his numbers. I know if you can turn a profit on a title you are usually happy. But, is there some standard out there were a certain number is considered impressive. In Hollywood it seems the $100 million mark is their target. Not trying to directly compare Hollywood to porn. I am a numbers guy and like this kind of information. I sure wish I knew how many unit Jules Jordan was selling on his stuff. He said that he was selling "silly" numbers. What does silly mean??? I am sure there is different standard for Gonzo and Feature stuff.

Hi barrybrn ,

I can't tell you a number, because what is good for one movie can be terrible for another. It all depends on what expenses you have and for what price you sell. Big companies have a lot of overhead cost. They have to sell much more or more expensive than others.

I think that 1st release (edition) should have like 3,000 copies, if they sell well or demand is good then you should release another batch (edition) of that DVD. Thats what I think.

Steve and Alex were both close with their answers...it really depends! A movie we did like Gladiator has sold over 180,000 copies worldwide. Some, not so good movies are lucky to hit the 3,000 number. You consumers really drive that number, but we know that if we make a movie with a $300,000 budget it should sell more that a movie with a $15,000 budget. A lot goes into how much we spend on marketing the movie also. The more we spend marketing usually means we will sell more movies. But if we market a bad movie heavily, then you, the consumer tend to turn us off on future purchases. Hope that helps...didn't want to reveal to many of our secrets!!

Steve Holmes & Ric Williams,

Thanks for your reply. I do understand basic economics. Ultimate goal is to turn a profit. I was just curious with numbers of DVDs sold. I am also just curious as to how many DVD/Videos bigger porn productions sell.
