Back in the 1970s, anal was the exception to the rule. The vast majority of movies did not show it. Back then, anal queens were few and far between. Notable ones at that time included Connie Peterson and Crystal Dawn. Of the two, Connie Peterson, a tiny blonde starlet with high cheekbones, had the greater impact. In the movie, Little French Maid, Connie was featured in no less than five sex scenes, including a torrid DP with John C. Holmes and Paul Thomas.

The 1980s started with a bang. It was in 1980 that Director Godfrey Daniels's Insatiable was released. This feature film classic paired in an incendiary anal scene the two biggest stars in the history of porn: Marilyn Chambers and John C. Holmes. Both stars individually possessed unbelievable stage presence, and together, they were a match made in porn heaven. Insatiable won the Best Film of the Year Award in 1981 from Adam Film World and later was inducted into the X-Rated Critics Organization (XRCO) Hall of Fame.

Next, the 1980s gave rise to an increase in the popularity of anal. This was the decade that saw the release of the first two bonafide video series dedicated to the anal fetish: Caught from Behind (released in 1982), and
Backdoor to Hollywood (released in 1986). The number of anal queens also grew, with women like Kelli Richards, Buffy Davis, Tanya Fox, Debbie Diamond, and many others specializing in anal.

In 1985, the anal heat was turned up a notch with Walter and Greg Dark's innovative New Wave Hookers. This classic movie, also in the XRCO Hall of Fame, showcased a scaldingly hot and award winning DP scene, which featured Ginger Lynn, Tom Byron, and Steve Powers. The dramatic musical score by the punk group, The Plugz, made the scene all the more riveting.

Ironically, it was a non-anal video that was most instrumental to the prevalence of anal today. In 1989, porn legend John Stagliano released his landmark The Adventures of Buttman. Its theme was *not* anal, however, the scene with Champagn being a notable exception. Rather, the movie centered on the worship of the female derriere in and of itself. But The Adventures of Buttman was pivotal in the development of anal because it introduced the concept of gonzo, a wall-to-wall sex movie in which the cameraman becomes an integral part of the action transpiring in front of the camera.

Then, in 1992, one of the most infamous figures in the history of porn, Max Hardcore (aka Max Steiner, aka Paul Little), took the gonzo concept to another level. Max introduced, what at the time was, the most hardcore anal video ever produced: The Anal Adventures of Max Hardcore: Adventures in Shopping. This movie was most noteworthy for the scene involving Max and Brooke Ashley. To call the scene intense would be one of the biggest understatements ever. It featured a very excited and vocal Brooke cooing and moaning as Max assaulted her anally from various acrobatic positions, complete with numerous insertions and gaping anus. The camera captured the action from virtually every possible angle, with lots of close-up shots. And the scene was well-lit throughout and crystal clear.

By the 1990s, the women specializing in anal were almost too numerous to mention. They included the red-hot Flame, the volcanic Careena Collins, the voracious Rachel Ryan (aka Ingrid Elliot, aka Penny Morgan), the sultry Chloe Nichole, heart-throb Vanessa Chase, our very own delectable Tricia Devereaux, and countless others. Anal scenes in movies, even features, had become commonplace, and gonzo went through the roof. The market was flooded with popular series such as Randy West's Up and Cummers, Ed Powers's More Dirty Debutantes, Rodney Moore's The Sodomizer and The Cumm Brothers, the Seymore Butts series, and scores of others.

Today, in the new millennium, the exception is when new girls *don't* do anal. Trendsetting companies such as Anabolic/Diabolic, Red Light District, Evil Angel, and others stand ready to put the porn girls through their anal paces. And we're quickly moving from merely anal to double anal, as demanding porn fans seek to push the female talent to their limits. And did someone say "triple anal"? But of course.
