John and I have since reviewed the movie a couple of times, and have noticed one or two things that we want to add back in now that we don't have a time constraint.
A few things will be tweaked to make the movie even better, too!

Actually, the term director's cut doesn't really apply, since John and I were the director and assistant director AND the editor and assistant editor. But we may use it anyway, as it's the thing people recognize to say "Extended and better".

Thanks for all the cool things that you guys are saying about the movie. If we could have released the VHS and DVD simultaneously and still made the awards deadline, we would have, but then, we may not have decided to do this director's cut.

So all in all -- the DVD set will be
2 DVD-9 discs that represent the director's cut of the movie, a movie that was originally already 4 hours 39 minutes long. These 2 discs will most likely also contain the fetish menu and extra sex
1 DVD-9 disc which will be extras of making-of and behind the scenes.
and we have finally decided that we will be doing an audio CD of the songs from the movie. John has won Best Music from AVN at least once (maybe twice?) before, and we think this music is even better...

THE FASHIONISTAS DVD RELEASE DATE ---- JANUARY 6, 2003 !!!

Thanks for the words up Tricia. I hope you and John have much fun and not to much stress as you put the dvd together for this most anticipated title. I am sure all Evil Angel fans will see the wait is worth it when they get their copies in January!!

Let me just be to first to agree with you astroknight.

Tricia,

This movie is fantastic, and that is the simple truth. It's not for everyone to be sure, but it was definitely for me and my wife. I can't wait to see what you do with the DVD "Director's cut", and I agree with you about the music. It's the best I've ever heard in a porn movie.

Look for a comprehensive He Said / She Said MLyons review of this title coming by the end of the week. I couldn't wait for the DVD--so I decided to review the VHS. I won't be able to post it here until the DVD is out obviously, but I will post a link to my review so people here can read it if they're interested.

Still haven't seen this one yet (been rented out at the store the last three times I was there) but according to all of your comments I had better keep trying.

Jan 6th huh? Couple days before AEE.

A director's cut put to dvd. Evil Angel leads the pack again. I believe this is the first time anyone has done this, isn't it? I also think EA was the first to offer extra sex in the special features of dvd's as well.
This is great news hopefully other companies will follow suit in releasing directors cuts/extended versions on dvd.

well, I think we were the first, but it was actually for Buttman at Nudes a Poppin 12 and Buttman's Bend Over Brazilian Babes 3, each released over 6 months ago.

(But it's the thought that counts.)

Director's cuts make a lot of sense for Evil Angel, because a lot of times, the movie is just about exactly 2 hours 20 minutes because that's the most we can fit on VHS.

VCA has done extended versions (which they called Phat Cuts IIRC) with a couple of Antonio Passolini's features, although they weren't close to the additions it sounds like EA will be making.

Tricia, will the DVDs be set up so the viewer can choose between watching the original version and the director's cut? This was one of the things I liked about VCA's Phat Cuts of the Passolinis.

actually, I don't think so, as the only way my authorer would be able to program it to do that, there would be a slight pause similar to a layer change anyplace where there would be an alternate option.

Besides, since these will be improvements and tweaked stuff, we just want to put the better version of those things on the disc.
Things like added music cues, fixed film to video coloring in one or two spots, stuff like that.

However, in the commentary, we will definitely talk about what got changed between the VHS and the DVD.
For sure, there's going to be an added toy to the Bella/Taylor scene that wasn't on the VHS.

Just release the best possible version with the most fottage available. If you have a director's cut, why would anyone want another version of the same movie but with less footage? it would make no sense to do that. Release one version on dvd (the director's cut in full), no need to waste disc space with another lesser version of the same movie. That space can be used for other extras.

I'm pretty sure that what VCA does is use an authoring system that allows for 2 different navigation streams of the movie.
For example, if the director's cut was just an addition of something between sex positions D and E, the director's cut would navigate like this:
A - B - C - D - extra - E - etc.

whereas the original cut would navigate like this:
A - B - C - D - E - etc.

That way, nothing has to be duplicated.

The last I had heard, that authoring system was REALLY expensive, so perhaps VCA outsources that feature, unless they have that system in-house. VCA's pretty good about doing cutting edge stuff on their DVDs. That's cool for them, but it's just not as important to me.

We're thrilled with our authorer, and if his system doesn't allow for a smooth navigation change, then we'll just deal with that.

I think James Cameron's company that does his DVDs was the first to accomplish the type of thing that astro was talking about. The first time I saw it was on the 2-disc Abyss DVD.

X-Men does it in the extras, but the change looks like a layer change, and I wouldn't do that to my movie on purpose.

I know for me it can be really interesting to see a filmmaker's train of thought. I promise we'll do the director's cut justice in the commentary.

Hi Tricia,
you mean the dudes who change every performers name to a ´stupid´ german name and add some stupid german voices. No thanks, i´ll stick to the ´original´ as soon as i can get my hands on it :)

This method is called SEEMLESS BRANCHING .
The best example I've seen is the excellent Terminator 2 - Ultimate edition dvd.

Jan 06 2003 seems a long way off, but I'm sure the DVD will be worth the wait.

Will you be using a different style of dvd case or will the third disc be loose in the case (like The Ass Collector) ?

Hardz - I wasn't going to get too technical, but since you brought it up, I can't understand why all of the authoring systems haven't jumped on figuring out how to do seamless branching.

I mean, I'm not a computer programmer or anything, but obviously it exists, and before I even knew what it was, it seemed like something obvious that I wanted to do on my DVDs.
We tried something on Wild Goose Chase with a jump to sex scene thing, but it's not seamless branching, and I wasn't thrilled with the outcome. I was misled by my authorer about what the final thing would look like, and by the time I saw it (I was busy with The Fashionistas at the time), it was too late to change the layout of the disc.
