I've heard about several others actually.
It remains to be seen whether this is a good idea or not. These seem to be the companies that desperately need to make new contacts and new media deals, and they simply won't have that opportunity now.
For Evil Angel, we are looking forward to VOD companies and mobile phone providers and companies like that coming to meet us at our booth.
Call me behind the times (most people do) but do you really think there's a substantial market of people who want to watch porn on their phone screens? Can you really tell if the female talent is giving a beejay or taking it up the ass?

My guess it is the lesser known companies? Just guessing here as I have mostly been a contract girl/large studio follower and not the small ones that churn out unknowns here and there. I don't know the business side of the AEE but could cost be a reason that they feel the price to pay for a booth is not worth it or maybe behind the scenes politics? Not having many girls agreeing to appear..just speculatiing here.
I recently read, but can't remember where, that having decent presence at AEE can easily cost over $100K. I don't know how accurate that is. Nor do I know what "decent presence" is defined as. Companies like Vivid & Digital Playground have huge 'booths', while others have relatively small booths.
It seems to me that there are quite a few companies who are just "getting by" right now. Is it worth $100K for those companies to have a booth at AEE?
My guess is that, unless things in the industry change soon, AVN may have to reduce the cost of AEE presence over the next few years year.

Vivid, Digital Playground, Wicked... the booths of that size and that many girls spend way above that amount.
The companies that I've talked to that have pulled out seem to be doing so for financial reasons. Haven't heard any of them doing so out of rebellion against AVN or AEE.
RF- there is indeed a big market for VOD (on video iPods and computer screens). There's pay-per-view settops and digital pay channels. And for mobile, although there are downloadable clips, it seems to be more about screensavers.
I believe there might be a very old thread about that somewhere on ADVDT from when somebody asked about Adult DVD Talk having a booth. All I remember is you basically aren't allowed to do anything yourself and have to hire all overpriced union labor to do everything inside the show...
I remember a few years ago Elegant Angel just got a suite near the show to do everything in. For the business end of things and companies who aren't able to justify $100k (and in my mind that should be most of them), this makes a lot more sense...

I opted for no electric hookup at my table, since you weren't allowed to plug in your own cords for any lighting or displays. The union electricians charged $150 for each plug they inserted an outlet. $150 here and $150 there, and pretty soon, you're talking real money.
Not worth the money when you get right down to it as it's mostly a fan based show when it use to be all about distribution. I know several companies that are getting suites and meeting with distributors there to skip the hassle of the floor crowd. This is think is the way to go if you just want to do business and not be bothered with having a huge expense and get right down to business and skip all the show boating.
This is also affecting the girls. I know about 12-15 that had their bookings to sign also cancel.
It is very expensive for the companies to exhibit @ AVN/AEE. I have a small 1 hex 10 booth for my firm and the costs will easily exceed $10,000 and my performers are going to sign for free.
Im surprised that more companies arent passing on booths and grabbing hospitality suites. That seems like a mucher smarter idea.

Michael - yea, two of the girls signing at the EA booth that I hadn't talked to for about month called me a couple weeks ago to confirm that Evil Angel hadn't decided to cancel our booth.
I wouldn't think that there will be any more companies cancelling their booths that haven't already done so, as there are now steep cancellation fees involved.
Yea - union labor at conventions is VERY expensive. Plus, you have to rent the carpet or bring in the carpet yourself, which is a logistic nightmare, so you just end up renting it.
Labor is per/hour no matter what they do, minimum of one hour at $70 - $90/hour. For our booth, it's about a 6 hour setup with 3 - 4 workers. Same for taking down. Porter fee for MOVING the booth. All those cool plasma TVs you see at booths? $500 - $700/week. Internet connection at your actual booth? $1200 for the week. (People at the EA booth will be using their Blackberry's and PDAs.) But if you're a website based company, you need an internet connection just to show your product.

For the first time in over 20 years I will not be attending.
the reason is simple...it isnt worth what it costs even if you don't get a booth.
It has turned into nothing but a fan show, hotels have jacked the rates sky high and by the time its all said and done I will have dropped 3-5K with little or no ROI.
That money is better spent elsewhere...plain and simple.
I will miss seeing some of my friends that I only see once a year but but for what it costs I could fly em to mexico Beach and take em fishing for a week and still save money

Okay so I have heard there's about a dozen or so companies that have officially pulled their booths from the AEE show floor.

Not only has Vouyer Media not pulled out of the show, we've enhanced our involvement from simply being a presence at the Wicked booth to having our own separate business suite.
As a young, growing company it makes great sense to be involved at this level. I'm already pre-booking interviews for Vince Vouyer and Jack Napier, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the show.

As Vouyer Media is less than a year old, we had little formal involvement with last January's show. We are making our first dedicated AEE appearance in 2007 - that's why it was odd to read that we'd "officially" pulled out. In our case at least, the opposite is true.
As you probably know, AEE will have a group of business suites near the show floor where companies can conduct business. That's where Vouyer Media will be; I'll personally be splitting my time between VM's suite and Wicked's larger booth on the show floor.
I never said that Voyeur pulled out of the show entirely.
My original post was about companies pulling out of booths.
I had heard that Voyeur had in fact contracted for a booth on the show floor and then later decided not to follow through with those plans.
Is that true? I am really trying to be accurate here. I really would like to know which companies are not going to be on the show floor that had originally contracted for a booth.

I agree with Jules about the fans, but didn't make the comment myself originally, because I didn't want to imply that the other companies don't care about the fans. I don't think that's the case, just that they have to be more prudent with their money.
We've known for years that we don't get our 'money worth for business done' at the convention. It's not ONLY about that. It's about the fans as much as it is company image and media coverage.
We hope to meet as many business people as possible, like I said especially in the new media. And also from the international market.

I can see how some studios would skip it if they felt that the money is not justified to spend. I for one look at the fact that we the fans don't pay cheap for alot of the product that comes out, and with the market saturated so much, the consumer is going to be picky on what they buy. And the AEE is a great platform to expose girls that some consumers have not heard of nor seen perform BUT meeting them makes those say "hey she was so nice to meet and so hot I think I will order one or more of her movies" and in return the girl(s) just made a new fan who is buying her movies and in return the studio got exposed by being at the AEE and has new customers. I am just looking at it from a fan's point of view. Online retailers can buy up as much product from every studio they want. But in the end it is us fans who decide on what gets bought. And for me personally I will buy dvd's of certain girls I either have wathed in other movies or like my first time at the 2006 AEE, met some girls I had never heard of nor seen perform. So it is sort of a catch 22, skip the Expo and worry about distribution deals, or spend the money to be at the AEE and have a bunch of possible fans be exposed to your studio and end up returning home and buying some of it. Like I said though I am looking at it from a fan's side.
