I'm a really big fan of Andrew Blake because he has a great photographic style and knows how to shoot women beautifully on film. Having said that, although his films are among the highest quality in the industry, he has (especially lately) focused on a lot of solo girl or girl-girl sex. For example, the last Blake film I saw was Pin-Ups 2 and it only had one boy-girl scene in it.

Michael Ninn and Antonio Passolini are two other high-quality directors, but they may be too hardcore to introduce someone to porn with.

Candida Royalle has more couples-oriented porn, but I've never been that enthralled with her work, since the sex tends to be pretty boring and the stories require the performers to be actors as well (and most porn talent can't act to save their lives).

Here are a few of my recommendations based on your situation, in no particular order:

• Insatiable - Classic, perhaps the #1 adult movie of all time. One lesbian scene.


• Justine: Nothing to Hide 2 - One of Paul Thomas' best directing efforts, and the sex is very realistic (not artificial like most porn). Some slightly kinky sex and a four-way scene.


• Search for the Snow Leopard - A good combination of story, sex, and exotic locations.


• Zazel - The same visual style as Andrew Blake by Penthouse director/photographer Phillip Mond. One of the best adult films of the 1990s, but has a lot of girl-girl (70% of the scenes).


• Flashpoint - Very high budget feature starring Jenna Jameson. One of the best adult DVDs.


• Double Feature! - A funny spoof on 1950's horror films. Universally acclaimed as both one of the best films of last year and as a great DVD.

Saki covered most everything. Insatiable was the movie that made me seek out better porn - it's still my favorite adult DVD. I will add Shane's World 19 since it's really fun.

I was told that while Andrew Blake and Cameron Grant tend to shoot on film, that there's no hard and fast (no pun intended) rule on figuring out which videos are or aren't. Are there general guidelines as to what's shot on film vs video? I mean, how do you tell just by looking at the box in the rental store which ones have the high-quality editing in them? I used to think "Shot on film" was a good indication, but it's failed me a few times.

I rented Zazel and previewed it - very nice! I like the production work that's gone into it, and would like to find more along those lines (at least for starters for her). Any other suggestions?

I'm flying out to see her in February, so I'll definitely let you know how it goes (or cums)!

I agree with Saki that Antonio Passolini's movies may have too much hardcore sex, but if you're looking for great films in the adult arena he makes some of the best. I found DMJ 6 far more entertaining than most mainstream movies. Same goes for Bliss and Raw - though the storyline of Bliss qualifies as the opposite of a love story. Also loved Cafe Flesh 2, but the DVD is not as good as the others.

Just throwing this out because you seem to like films with excellent production values.

greybeard: I would agree that those early Blake films are great porn, but they are absolutely some of the worst DVDs produced to date. One can only hope that someday Blake will buy the rights to those films and treat them with the same quality as his Studio A releases.

We watched "Zazel" first. She fast-forwarded through all of the fluffy parts (Kama Sutra looking girl dancing in water, and girl touching herself by the bank) and definitely didn't care how Zazel was doing with her design of the new perfume line. She seemed to enjoy the boy-girl scenes that depicted them having a good time and enjoying each other, even though there were several girls involved (which pleasantly surprised me, and you can bet I'll keep that stored in the "safe keeping" section of my memory). But again, she got bored with all the fluff.

On the flip side, she didn't like seeing the hardcore details of penetration. "It's just mechanical," she explained. And sadly, she zipped by a very nice blowjob scene. [:-(]

We didn't make it far through "Carpathia"; not enough to develop much story, anyway. I will probably try some Andrew Blake next to see how she likes that.
