Hi,
I've only bought four movies before and there are no rental places near me for Adult titles and I'm not too interested in online porn rentals as I'm friendly with my mail man and he talks with the neighbors and such.

My first picks were mostly the cheap wave titles that claim to be multiple angles and I was pretty disappointed in the quality and length of the titles (50 min, not 4hrsas they included the same disc with the same trailers as “part of the package.”
So I enjoyed Bedlam with Celeste and didn't like the three other titles from my first purchase: Comeback (ok) American Pie (boring, too short etc) and Private Diary of Tori Wells (some good parts, some sick.)

So my question is, is there a good way to pick titles aside for looking at the reviews? How much should I pay for a good title? Are there any reasonably priced ($15) titles that use multiple angles? Are there some titles that people can recommend? I'm not interested in anal or gay titles but if people could recommend some good armature titles or movies where the women look real and are not degraded I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for any help / advice you can offer.

JP, I used to buy titles that were low cost. I got a lot of great "bargains" that turned out to be really lame. How much of a bargain is it if you watch half of it and never go back?

I suggest you start by reading some of the reviews. You needn't read each line. Almost every reviewer here has a summary section which, when used with the numerical rating, gives you a really good idea of how much a reviewer liked a movie. Look at how often a reviewer gives a high grade vs a low grade too.

A few recommended reviewers that I've learned to trust here: Astroknight, Darkmage, Endorphin, and Saki. Keep in mind that if you have a favorite type of movie, search for it under the search function on the review page.

Most "good" titles will run $15 on up unless you get a good sale. If you email me with types of action you like and/or stars, I will try and work up a lsit of better titles I can think of. Take care, HD

Ditto to HoustonDon. You might want to try the advanced Price Search function where you can enter a price range to search for at a store. If you like multiple angles, VCA normally has true multiple angles. Most of them are around $20, but occasionally you'll find them on sale. I normally worry about a company if several e-tailers have their stuff for under $20 or so. A lot of times one store will have a company's stuff really cheap and will still be good stuff (such as Adam & Eve at Five Star). Other times you'll crap out (like I did with Sin City at DVDAdvantage). Sin City was way cheaper there than anywhere else ($13 compared to $20+) so I figured they were good stuff. Thankfully I only got Babewatch. For now, you might want to pick here and there with different studios until you find ones you know you like. Wicked, Evil Angel, Adam & Eve (new releases), and VCA come to mind immediately when I think of companies with constant quality releases. Hope this helps!

One other thing I would like to point out, each reviewer has their own like/dislikes. When reading the reviews, watch out for those that rate highly acts that YOU like/dislike, and try to choose accordingly.

It's a little out of date, but parts 9 and 10 of the Adult Movie FAQ cover this...

Thanks Jeff, I'll check these threads out. I don't get to this site too much and don't have a lot of time to surf it. Espescially now that Alavista is shuting down my free acess in a few days.

Don, thanks for the compliment.

Emahevul has a good point. One thing that I hope will change down the road is that the reviewers will be given a page to admit their biases and weaknesses. I am weak when it comes to AV quality. Whereas HoustonDon is really good in that area. I know what really sucks, but I am not sure what is really good. I don't care for plots so I am not quite sure how to rank them.

Also, you may want to look try to get a feel for the reviewers scale. For example, at least one person(sot to be named) seems to give 5s to every movie they see. Either that person has incredibly good luck in buying, incredibly good skills in choosing, or more realistically should not be a reviewer. HoustonDon, if you notice, has never given a 5, but has given good reviews. Obviously he is saving the 5 for something that is incredibly good. A 4 by him is probably a much better DVD than a 5 from others.

Endorphin, thanks in return. Just remember that you earned the compliment. ;)

I agree with you on the those who always rate things either a 4.5 or 5. The only realistic possibility I see for this to happen is if someone just refuses to formally review something they didn't like or thought was average. I read the reviews and if someone writes a paragraph or so with a glowing review every time-I wonder about what's going on. I raised this question awhile back and got some good input though.

I liked the idea of a profile page for reviewers. I know that Steph and Drew have more pressing concerns to attend to but this one makes sense. I haven't seen any other sites provide such background yet it would help people decide where we're coming from sometimes. Do we like ultra hardcore more than couples films? Do we have a fetish for facials? Do we appreciate plot and acting in a movie? Some do and some don't-this is one way to learn about a reviewers biases before having to read a dozen or so of their reviews... Kudo's!

HoustonDon(and others who may be curious), since I like to be fair in announcing my bias and reviewer pages are not yet available, I will be setting up a page on my site. The reviewer page that I will be creating is not finished yet(or started for that matter). In the meantime I have taken the info from my previous posts "What would you like to see more/less of in porn" and created pages for them at my site.
