Hi Drew,

Not a complaint :) , just an fyi:

Been trying to send an email from my my.adultdvdtalk.com email account. Date/time of attempts is right now, for the last 10 minutes or so.

It fails.

Here is the error message returned:

An error occured while sending your email: "Unable to send email: SMTP: connect() failed. reason: Unable to connect: Unknown error".

Tried it a couple times. Same result each time.

Just for the hell of it, next tried an email to a different email address. Same result.

Tried it again just now. Still the same.

Earlier today - estimate a few hours ago - sent an email from it, and it worked fine.

this should be fixed now. I'm not sure what caused the perl isapi dll to crash.

You might want to check the perl isapi dll again. I'm getting the same error message.

Fwiw, upon seeing this post, I tried an email send.

Same result as Hardware. Date/time was just a couple minutes ago.

I upgraded the perl engine this afternoon. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

Just tried it a few minutes ago. Sent a test email to myself.

Worked fine.

Thanks. :)

For the suggestion box:
Upon logging out of the email page, I am presented with a page that has only one option, and that is to log back in to email.

Sometimes I use the 'back' button in my browser, but often I just go back to www.adultdvdtalk.com from the history.

It would be nice if that page could offered other choices.
Would it be possible for it to have the same column on the left as is available everywhere else?

Seems Hardware has the same problem that occured when I tried to login:

Hope this helps the tech-wizards to find the bug.
Thanks in advance.

things seem back to normal within the last 10 minutes or so, the slowness from earlier in the afternoon is gone and it hasn't spit back random letters and symbols in a while. drew, you aren't sending "son of sam" subliminal messages in those errors are you? every time i see one, i start doing the naked gun "must kill president" zombie-thing.

random letters and numbers would most likely be a problem with the HTTP compression engine.

no subliminal messages at this time.

you recieved that error while I was removing and installing one of the perl modules. It looks like all of the my.adt mail problems should be fixed now.

Thanks.

Hmmm, once again I receive this one, once I try to send an email to somebody:

An error occured while sending your email: "Unable to send email: SMTP: connect() failed. reason: Unable to connect: Unknown error".

Drew,

sorry, but here we go again:

After that one email had been sent just a few minutes ago, no luck with the next one. I once again got that error message:

An error occured while sending your email: "Unable to send email: SMTP: connect() failed. reason: Unable to connect: Unknown error".

Hope you will be able to fix this soon.

Thanks again,
Guido

Drew,

thanks for taking a look into this.

I was able to reply to two emails a few minutes ago, but trying to reply to a third email, I get an error message again (which seems to be slightly different from the message mentioned earlier):

An error occured while sending your email: "Unable to send email: SMTP: Unspecified communications error: '%s'.".

Hope you will find the problem.

Thanks.

Drew,

While this is going on, and as you hunt for the problem - is inbound email working? or no?

How about inbound mail on auto-forward? continually working, or no?

It is not critical, but I would like to know if there is a possibility that any inbound email was lost.

Thanks

i don't know if it's working or not. i don't think that inbound emails would be lost, they simply would have been returned as undeliverable. most sending SMTP servers will retry to send periodically for a day or two before giving up.

I'm really not spending much time diagnosing this problem. I don't know what's causing it. If I can't fix it easily I'll just remove the email service. That's a permanent fix.

Drew,

"Remove the email service"?

Would that mean to shut down my.adultdvdtalk.com completely, for everybody who has signed up to this service in the past?

If that's necessary, will you post a warning on the website before you shut it down? I would have to save some of my emails first, even if I had to cut and paste them manually.

Thanks.

Although I'd hate to lose the e-mail account, at the same time I completely understand with how much of a hassle it's been for you.

As for inbound e-mails, they seem to be saved up and all come at once when it comes back online.
