If anonymous online viewing of porn becomes difficult,
then could we see an uptick in DVD sales via physical stores ?

The news says the UK is the first country to do this and it raises the issue that many have been concerned about which is the effect on-line porn has on children who are getting their sex education from porn, even before they are old enough to have sex. I have seen various documentaries in which teenagers have said that they expected girls to behave like they do in movies. They expected girls to perform deep throat oral sex, to enjoy rough treatment (eg face slapping, domination etc) and submit to pounding anal sex. Girls have been put off having sex for that reason. They want their first experiences to be gentle and more mutually enjoyable.
On the other hand is the civil iberties argument and privacy issues over protection of information by the companies concerned.
Where does the balance lie?

If this is the reasoning behind a law that may very much raise concernings about freedom of sex identity forcing people to basically state their sexuallity to some unknown third party then it is bullshit
No minor has a credit card , any teenager with hal a brain even a cooked with drugs one can very much steal his father's IDs take a picture with his/her phone and do very much whater he pleases.

it's bullshit expecially because those minors aren't customer of anything they steal material from tubesite and AFAIK no tubesite ask any proof of age.

It just a perfect excuse to forbid porn

It is all irrelevant. Most younger people would use Reddit etc to find porn - which is exempt from this law. It will also just spur on more people to watch it online for free on various tube sites.

I still can't figure out exactly what is going to be restricted, and whether even sites like this are included. Security safeguards for those having to prove evidence of age are doubtful and the whole thing is a mess. But after six years of talking about it, the powers that be have decided to go ahead anyway. Now they want to block all 'harmful' sites. They'll have a job.

It’s free tube sites that will be affected as you will need to prove your age to access them. Pay sites make you do this already as you have to give credit card details. I’m sure kids will find a way around it as they always do but it’s a step in the right direction. The issue for me is what happens to the proof of ID that you provide, will someone be monitoring what sites you’re visiting? Will someone be able to hack into these databases and get this info, potentially blackmail material.

As long as anonymity remains in place and this info is not stored, I’m ok with it. There was talk of you being able to buy a more anonymous proof of age card in shops for £5.00 so you don’t have to provide proof of age online, just input a code on the card. Again though, I don’t know if these shops will want scans of your passport, drivers license etc before handing over the card or just ask for proof of age like they would if you were buying alcohol.

Really? On a Torrent site?
And exactly how the British Government will extend its jurisdiction to a Russian based server of a tubesite for example or to one in Western Samoa?
Or even to one based in the USA?

UK gov can force UK based ISPs to block local access to any domestic or foreign server that does not adhere to the UK regulations.
How does a UK based citizen get access to the internet without a UK ISP ?
I don't know.
Satellite internet ?

What this could lead to:

1. More people using VPNs or Tor to access content without handing over their private information for verification purposes.

2. Data breach or selling of personal data by the age verification service.
As Gizmodo UK pointed out, MindGeek's privacy policy allows for the collection and analysis of user data in order to sell better advertisements.

3.Smaller internet service providers will block all porn sites.
Smaller ISPs may struggle to finance systems to implement and block websites that don't comply with the age policy.

4. Fake Age Verification Services - bad actors could create dodgy verification gateways to steal users' personal credit card details.

Exactly my point , the perfect excuse to ban porn

anyway to access the internet from outside the UK won't be difficult you can use a VPN access the VPN server and access wherever you want through a foreign based IP , your UK ISP would access the VPN Server and it would be this latter the one accessing porn or whatever else, plus for payment you can just use some bitcoin or whatever else anonymous digital money to pay

third factor there's is a new tubesite apearing every day , who is going to update the list of the forbidden sites? Who will pay to maintain such list updated? Are the UK going to block anything until proven safe?
How about the torrents?
How about fake titles such as "bees from the sahara" who actually is "triple anal in the sunset" Are the iSP supposed to download and veryfy anything out there at their own expense?

Mindgeek only?

LOL the latest Firefox update asked for permission to prevent my PC from going to safe mode or freeze mode or whatever energy saver mode would prevent my PC to work without me in front of it.

I didn't update of course

I use regularly a VPN for work purposes , it's a paid one not one of those free , i wouldn't recommend any of those either , never had a problem

No, as far as I understand , they could stop any UK based ISP from accessing any site in the world who doesn't comply to the related UK laws , porn today who knows what tomorrow. i'm only stating that such law is hard to enforce , you can't outlaw the VPNs , their most common and by far greatest users are public administrations, the press , all banks ,some military , such networks whose access is limited to those allowed to it are a fundamental service to protect data , for example , your TAX data are only accessible to you and the Public TAX administration through a VPN to be accessed only by those authorized , bank data, virtual press reunions , law firms virtual networks and so on , A VPN service can be bought , there are those free but I wouldn't trust those with anything

But now that I think about it in a practical way, I mean how long is the list of those who would have access to my or yours ID copies?
I mean when I talked about jurisdiction abroad , how can the UK enforce a law abroad , some said they can prevent access to those site who don't comply with UK laws , letting aside the implications of this , my concerning where about inspections , how could the British Authorities inspect a foreign company? I mean a legal one who does comply such UK laws and do have proof of age of his customers. I mean just a regular inspection every Authority routinely performs. What if such Country , say a European one has strict privacy laws preventing anyone fro giving up personal and sensible data to anyone but the Authorities?
British law enforcers should pass through regular international official procedures to be allowed to access data granted protection by the local laws and verify that every customers of the porn provider has been verufied with proper IDs.Unless they'd force the provider to give up data he couldn't give up by laws , and mind you sexual preferences are sensible data, very sensible , may even involve people who aren't costumers in a direct form, for example their wives.
This could be done of course but is it worthy? Also what about their former customers? Should they record their ID in a database even though those in there are no longer customers and shouldn't be in any sexual related database any longer?

It's been said the iSP based in UK shouldn't give access to any of those site if they don't comply?
How?
I mean legally are they supposed to be given the IDs too? Just told about them? If so should thay inspect? On what Authority? Abroad even!
Could they be sued if they wrongly prevent access to some perfectly regular and law abiding site just because they wouldn't give up their customers database?
Shouldn't the ISP already know who is paying for their services and thus his age?
How could anybody know who is actually accessing the content?
What if a teenager hacks the data from some computer and shares those through social media?

I really believe it's too impractical and impossible to enforce , providing its purpose is really to prevent minors from accessing any uncontrolled sexual related material

^I do think that is the purpose - a genuine attempt to prevent minors getting their sex education from porn and potentially an addiction to it. The NSPCC (National Society for the Provention of Cruelty to Children) says:

"Robust age verification and regulation for online pornography are important first steps in keeping children safe online.
But these steps do not go far enough.
The NSPCC is calling for social networks to be required by law to give under-18s safe accounts with extra protections built in, so that children are kept as safe online as they are in the real world."

Data breaches are my main issue with this. If it simply a matter of giving credit card details, then purchasers won't be too worried about that since the companies hold those details already. But the issue of data protection is more concerning if driving licence or passport details have to be uploaded. How secure will our details be?

Whether I do approve any attempt to prevent underage kids from getting their sexual education from porn I also believe that such attempts are flawed to say the least , they aare going heavy on legal sites whereas we all know that it is not the issue , no minor gets his porn through legal sources , maybe some but the vast majority don't , they'd through sharing sites , tubesites , torrents , even the sharing features of old social clients such as ICQ, MIRC and varius instant messaging clients , they could do it even right in front of you by creating a fansite with a forum , if you ever have moderated a public forum you would know there are some hidden rooms not visibile from the public board whose access is limited to the moderators , it's administrative so that the moderators the webmaster and the adimistrators can discuss whatever they need about members , suspect, moderation and tecnichal issues.
They work like all boards you can upload pictures and other stuff up there, there are even more levels over there depending on how big the board is , there are section moderators , ubermod moderation , adiminastration , webmastering and so on.
You will never know what's going on in there.
If a group of kids even moderately skilled decides to create a website dedicated to Spiderman but actually sharing porn through those hidden rooms where they upload their stuff , you will never know and there's no way a law can rule this unless some serious technical thoughts are put in there
such rule so unspecific will hit the legal providers but it is VERY far from even scratching the problem
It's like putting every single sitizen in balls and chains to prevent some possible thief from running, the damage it would do makes this not worthy.

Of course if you can shut down every legal porn source you will be drying the well for the illegals too but this only in UK

This right here is exactly the issue, for me.

All these attempts at regulation are going to regulate something that is not an issue anyway. No teens are logging into brazzers with a legitimate account. They're going to tube sites, or downloading torrents, or using discord servers or whatever else. And all these new rules do nothing to prevent those activities.

It's clear that the people making the laws have never spoken with a teenager.

'NANNY STATE' UK porn block will completely BAN some adult sites even if you’re over 18 – as Government slammed for ‘censorship of internet’
https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/8898716/uk-porn-block-banned-websites-over-18/
There's an alternative to handing over your details online...
◾️Brits will also be able to access porn sites using a voucher you can buy from high street shops.
◾️Thousands of shops will offer the special ID cards, which users can link to an app known as Portes.
◾️Through Portes, they can then login to sites without having to hand over their email address.
◾️Clark said: "The PortesCard will be available to purchase from any of the UK’s 29,000 PayPoint outlets as a voucher.
"It will also be available from selected high street retailers, which we can share more details on soon.
◾️A unique validation code on the purchased card must be activated via the Portes app within 24 hours, otherwise it'll expire, he added.
◾️Verified users will then automatically be granted access to all sites using AgeID.
◾️Each PortesCard will cost £4.99 for use on a single device, or £8.99 for use across multiple devices.

We don't have any plans to comply with this age verification law if it requires us to store any kind of personal info. It's not worth the aggravation or risk on our part. If there's some third-party verification service that develops some level of trust and it's reasonably priced (or free) then we'll consider implementing the necessary integrations with the service. If we get blocked by the UK that's fine too. 7% of our traffic currently comes from the UK. I expect that to drop to almost nothing after this law goes into effect.

^ Who's "we" in your case Drew? I might be one of the 7% and while I appreciate that from a business point of view the UK is not a significant part of your market, I'd like to know iwhat it is I'm going to be discarded from without another thought.

While the NSPCC is bleating about the real world let's get real-even the watchdog supposed to be overseeing this have admitted this will not stop children from accessing porn because they are very tech savvy having been brought up on it & know about VPN'S & as far as I can see this is not going to stop all tube sites/video rip sites/torrents etc-just the ones owned by Mindgeek. So if it is not going to stop children accessing it then what is the point exactly? One might be cynical & just surmise it is a way for the government to win votes at a time they are the laughing stock of Europe over Brexit, while taxing people to raise more money.

Seriously, how many people are going to walk into their newsagents & ask for a porn licence? Considering that Mindgeek are it seems running this for the government & couldn't stop their Brazzers forum from being hacked with customers personal data being stolen & have never put it back online it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Also how would this data be used by the government? If it is on a big database could it then be used in the future to stop people adopting children as being unsuitable parents for instance in their next puritanical crusade? Perhaps the NSPCC should be more worried about the abysmal state of social services that continually allows children to be beaten to death, sexually abused/raped etc while overworked social workers, doctors, nurses, police etc somehow manage to miss the fractured bones & obvious signs than kids being curious about sex.

Oh yes, can just imagine people asking for a porn card in WH Smith or Tesco-would you like our Kleeenex 2 for 1 offer as well sir? Snigger. I would like to know if this is a one-off payment or is it a recurring charge monthly/several times per year? Will not not be long before this joke of a government start sucking the air out of the sky & making us pay for it. Cannot handle exiting the EU, but by god we can block porn sites.

I don't think it's fair to start slinging mud at the NSPCC, who in fact ARE concerned about those other issue you mention (and, by the way, exaggerate wildly). We're not talking about kids being curious about sex; that's fine, and proper sex education is what we need much more of. The issue here is about access of pre-pubescents to hardcore, explicit, often aggressive sexual content (including rape fantasies, extreme anal punishment etc) at an age where they are extremely suggestible and vulnerable. What the hell else should the NSPCC be doing? They are trying to protect children. No adult will be prevented from accessing porn sites and if you have to buy a card then boo-hoo, what a trauma.

As I've said, data protection is much more of an issue for me.

Actually I wonder if we're coming into a period where things will change in all sorts of areas. The internet has enjoyed a couple of decades of pretty much a free for all. Anything goes, full freedom of expression for everyone.

But gradually more and more concerns have been raised about the negative sides of such freedom - stalking, harassment, extremist radicalisation, bullying induced suicides, trolling, fake news, inference with elections, grooming of children by pedophiles, data breaches, the dark net; all that off the top off my head. Maybe the honeymoon's over folks!

We = adultdvdtalk.com which is owned by myself and Janitor.

And you're not being discarded without a thought. You're being discarded because we don't have the resources to deal with compliance. ADT is not some big company with dedicated staff and budgets to implement these regulatory schemes. And we don't want to be responsible for maintaining the data involved with age verification. I don't want to know anyone's real name, birthday and have a digital copy of their identification documents. I don't want anyone to be able to connect a real person to the things they post on this site.

^ Fair enough, I fully understand that. It may not come to it for ADT I suppose, depending on what the govt define as a porn site. You're not selling it, but advertising mIght draw you into it. According to the BBC:

"any platform that hosts pornography but does not do so on a commercial basis - meaning it does not charge a fee or make money from adverts or other activity - will not be affected."

Ultimately it will be for the British Board of Film Classification to regulate the scheme and decide which sites 'offend' the new law. There will also be some discretion for pornn providers to decide how to verify ages; so buying tokens from shops may not be necessary.

Like many new schemes, it won't be until it happens that we know what impact it will have and how it will work in practice.

I don't think I am exaggerating it wildly-as shown by the NSPCC'S own statistics. https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/child-abuse-and-neglect/child-sexual-abuse/sexual-abuse-facts-statistics/

You have missed the point entirely-the kids know how to get around tech issues, the watchdog overseeing this have said it will not stop children from looking at hardcore material, so again I ask what is the point of it then? It has been a rushed & badly thought out piece of legislation to appease the mother of Jane Longhurst who started this crusade 15 years ago & to win votes. It is doomed to failure because most people will still be able to access material easily as the majority of video sites are not going to be blocked by the looks of things.

Again the buying a card comes under data protection & what will happen once your name is in a government controlled database-a government whose ministers regularly lose sensitive information on public transport, dump it in skips & even in the past sent it via carrier pigeon! We now know GCHQ's levels of surveillance. Will it be hacked resulting in attempted blackmail ransoms? How could it be used against you by the government?

^ I didn't miss your point at all. I have been talking about the government's motives; you've been talking primarily about practical issues. Nowhere did I say that these measures will work - of course many children will find a way - what I did say was that I understand the desire to try to protect children from potentially harmful content.

When I mentioned the exagerration, it wasn't about the numbers of cases of sexual abuse. I have some experience in the field and I'm only too aware of the extent of the problem. What was an exagerration was the reference to the authorities consistently failing to recognise broken bones and obvious signs of abuse. That doesn't happen anywhere near as frequently as some irresponsible elements of the media would have you believe; and the statistics you referred me to don't make that allegation anyway. The trouble is that when it does happen, it's front page news for weeks.

Welfare of children is about as emotional an issue as you can get. It's easy for the press to point a finger at the authorities but as you say, they are massively unresourced and it's actually amazing to me what a fantastic job they do against the odds. It's also tempting to rail against the government, and believe me I do all the time! But let's not let our emotions run away from us. Ministers don't "regularly" lose sensitive information on public transport, dump it in skips & send it via carrier pigeon. Once or twice maybe.

It looks like people may not have to go into shops for an embarrassing purchase. But if that was in fact the ONLY way of watching porn online, then yes, I'm absolutey positive they would.

There's nothing new about this kind of moral panic. It seems to be something the UK is prone to. It was widely thought these porn restrictions were a test case in how the net could be censored, but the implementation has taken so long that the government has lost patience and come out openly in favour of the UK being the 'safest' (i.e. most censored) place online outside of the likes of China, with sites considered 'harmful' though not illegal, for the chop. Ironically it is some US conservative groups, no friends of porn, who are among the most hostile to these proposals, as they tend to carry what is deemed as 'hate speech' in the UK and so could also be banned.

1-The fact that it's an European Country that is implementing this type of program makes complete sense because as a rule most European Countries have much stricter rules on just about everything than North American Countries.

2-No matter how some people feel about the entire age restriction of adult entertainment. I think most of us can agree that porn availability has gotten more and more pervasive since the advent of Tube Sites and since kids can easily access the net from multiple locations and are curious by nature than any system that could help curb even a percentage of those children from watching something that they are not remotely close to being ready for is better than not doing anything.

3-In some ways having some kind of age verification system across the world would in many ways be advantageous to the porn industry because it would be one example of the positive thing that could be used to defend the industry from the various groups attacking it on moral grounds. It's really hard to defend unfettered personal freedoms when those allow a 10 year old to have access to porn 30 seconds after he/she is on the net.

Huh? I guess you don't live in Europe, never been in Europe or only watch local news ;-)

I don't see any scat or piss porn coming from North America

The only thing that's forbidden in European countries is animalporn and kiddystuf ..

Incestporn without the stepword is also no taboo in most countries

Only the UK has stricter laws.. but that's no surpirse because the UK does not want to have anything to do with europe

^ Actually 49% of the people; and every government since the 60's has wanted to stay in Europe.

I agree with most of the rest you said though. Fisting is another thing regularly seen in European porn.

^^While I would love to argue that the UK really doesn't want to leave the European Union. This would likely derail the thread so I will instead argue that when it comes to extreme/questionable sexual acts. Most of the extreme stuff tends to come from Eastern Europe. I mean condoms have been mandatory in France for decades. Is there a single other European Country with a more stringent rule than that?

If we are comparing the US to most European Countries on the extreme nature of their content than the US is likely going to be win out over Europe more often than not.

-Scat porn is quite rare in the US but still exist in some corners of the net. You might say it's because Americans have laws that regulate that type of porn(they don't) but I argue that it's because it's literally fecal porn and very few people want to see that shit(sorry for the terrible pun).

-Piss porn while again quite rare is something you see in many of Bryan Gozzling videos and he isn't getting any negative feedback from the US Government. I would also argue that you regularly see squirting videos and if we are being honest with ourselves that it's really women pissing on each other in the guise of female ejaculate.

-Incest porn is still rampant in the US and while it's more often than not done as step-sibbling incest porn. It's still incest porn if the performers don't use the step portion of their relationship or they emphasize that they have been step-something for many years.

^ It's expected that the Govt will announce this morning that the measure will be delayed [again]. Perhaps with a new Prime Minister imminent, it will be one of those laws that stays on the back burner and never gets enacted.

Piss porn? you mean actual piss porn , not some fake squirting stuff?
This stuff has never even been an issue in Europe nor has scat, I mean you don't risk obscenity charges I don't think many Countries here even have such crime pertaining porn , even bestiality has been outlawed or could prosecuted for animal cruelty not for obscenity.

Also about stricter laws in Europe it depends we do have stricter laws on Privacy , which is most understandable since we saw and experimented first hand what goverment databases over their citizens over personal habits , preferences and stuff could do ,from Fascisms to STASI , we are very wary about that.

As for the rest there's only a simple rule once, you reach your adulthood at 18 years of age you can do just about anything , we don't have "adults" forbidden to drink until they are 21 , or to gamble and least of all if you can do porn at 18 you can also watch it at that very same age.
Either you're an adult or you're not, in the USA it looks like at 18 you're just "almost" adult, the real adulthood would be at 21.

Ministers now say the age restrictions will come into effect at the end of the year and have apologised profusely to those who have been pressing for them. No apologies to anyone else of course, despite questions of privacy for online porn consumers being far from being resolved. Though whether the government will still be here in a few months is another matter as Brexit chaos increases.

In the US you'll never be an adult since the distribution of video containing pissing and shitting on eachtother can get you into prison. Even when you're 21 or older .

I must make the remark that 10 years ago fisting was a big no no too in the us. Nowadays you can also see this in us porn.

^ That fisting and squirting stuff is - to my knowledge - only an issue with real brick-and-mortar stores. If they sell it, someone could sue them on some obscenity charges, so they're simply not carrying the product, and producers don't produce such product (on DVD). Online such charges would not stick, because the servers are (usually) not located in the same area the suing party would reside, so e.g. a DA (or whoever wants to go on a anti-porn crusade) would have a hard time bringing charge for content that is hosted in let's say either a liberal part of the US or altogether somewhere else overseas.
At least that's how it was explained to me.

Tnx for the reply.

But if online is fine... why don't we see at least pissing stuff being produced in the states. I have seen several US pornactresses (Veronica Avluv) on sites such as legal porno pissing and receiving piss.

The measures have now been dropped. The thread can be put to bed, and porn subscribers in the UK cab breathe a sigh of relief

However, once an idea has been raised, there's nothing to stop it being picked up again, either by the UK or any other state.

Watch this space.
