I noticed a lot of the porn actors I enjoy watching are seldom American, even though the porn industry is very American.

Keni Styles (UK), Steve Holmes (Germany), Zenza Raggi (Morocco/Germany), Jean Valjean (France), Mike Adriano (Spain), Sascha Ink (Germany), Manuel Ferrara (Spain), Mick Blue (Austrian), Nacho Vidal (Spain), even Erik Everhard, who looks like an all-American guy, is Canadian.

It's hilarious to think straight male porn stars speak more languages than the average American, or even the average Hollywood denizen.

The main Americans I recognize are usually black. The Americans I'm aware of are either from previous generations like Randy West or operate on the fringes like Max Hardcore and Ed Powers or are overhyped like James Deen.

What's going on here? Maybe it's just my tastes.. or are Americans just bad fuckers, out of touch with their sexuality, out of shape? Or is it that American men suffer from the country's puritanism, and the infamous European sexual liberation gets males in the business? I think I read that quite a few porn actors were discovered in Barcelona's swingers clubs.

^&^^I agree that the OP's comment is like dropping a grenade in a crowded room and most of it I wouldn't touch with a 20 foot pole but it's hard to argue with the facts that the bulk of the men he named are responsible for most of the porn being shot today. You can add the names of Markus Dupree(Russia), Keiran Lee(UK), Danny D(UK) and Christian Clay(Italy) and that doesn't leave a lot of room for any enterprising American male performer.

I don't remember any Zenza Raggi work in America , Manuel Ferrara is French , you forgot Rocco Siffredi in your list , he's Italian and Ramon Nomar who is Spanish

^I don't think Zenza did but he did work for multiple American Studios so maybe that's why the OP mentioned him.

Yeah, I was just wondering about the actors I enjoy watching. Raggi has been in a lot of Private productions, which are marketed in the U.S.

Sorry about lobbing the grenade, I didn't know it was such a sensitive topic!

It was just something that I noticed about the adult media I consume. Nothing else: mainstream movies, TV, pop music, is as international as male talent in porn.

I don't dispute the fact that there are relatively few American male pornstars in the American porn industry but I don't agree with your hypotheses. If American men were bad at sex or out of shape how would notable performers such as John Holmes, Randy Spears, Tom Byron, Herschel Savage and Tony Tedeschi, all have amassed several thousand scenes between them all in their years as studs?

You've got Johnny Sins, Xander Corvus and Jules Jordan today who as far as I'm aware are very popular with female talent. Until a few months ago, you could have included Bill Bailey in that list.

I fail to see how being "out of touch with their sexuality" would impact American men getting into porn. I'm sure incels are in touch with their sexuality but they still can't get hanky panky.

Looking at the casting policy in the industry and the economics of porn may answer more than focusing on American men. When you have a reliable and consistent male talent pool and you have a tight budget to stick to (limited room for recasting and reshooting), do you play it safe with your established studs who won't (intentionally or through negligence) miss a shoot, struggle to get it up or deliver the cumshot on cue or do anything that will screw up the shoot and waste the studio's money or do you give an enthusiastic pretender a shot when he's done nothing to prove himself?

I suspect one of the reasons there are relatively few American male performers is that the industry has become globalized.

That could be it: The stakes are high, so producers want the best talent, and sex is not only not limited by language ability.

To establish yourself in the talent pool of male porn stars is probably the most difficult professional task on this earth, since it's a job almost every straight male on earth would be eager to do, and no nationality has any home field advantage.

I think these guys benefitted from the world before globalization. I wonder if they would be able to compete today.

^ That I mentioned those names had nothing to do with globalization. I merely alluded to those American men having performed in thousands of scenes collectively, which I doubt would be feasible if they were bad at sex or out of shape.

I reckon John Holmes and Tom Byron would have fared pretty well today. I think Randy Spears would have fitted in well with Digital Playground or feature porn of today too.

Marketed in the USA yes, produced in Europe also yes besides back then it was a European produceror at least based in Europe before moving over the Ocean , almost all actors and actresses were European , Raggi was active in Europe , never traveled to the USA , Plus they used to work all over the world and had a number of Easter actresses who only worked with them a couple times , I don't think you're complaining about Legal Porno using European actors , it's a European Company ,

It's not a matter of being sensitive, it was just an information Zenza Raggi doesn't fit your example ,plus it was a different era the guy must be at least 60 today , maybe older even

Yes but when they traveled to Europe to shoot, much like Blacked or any other of their sites do when they want to shoot some Eurobabe who can't or won't travel , it's a lot less expensive to hire locals than to travel over there with American actors , besides depending on their schedule they may not want to.

Also another thing, what kind of porn are we talking about ? In Feature porn, they're mostly American men for example, those mentioned are mainly active in gonzo porn

There's also the fact that 1 company dominates much of the porn landscape, and it so happens that that company's two most used performers are British.

Seeing that the vast majority of the porn being shot today is in one way or another gonzo(that includes most Lansky viideos) than maybe that's why those men are able to work as often as they do. That said most of the men already named can still pull off the odd role because their English is more than adequate.

I look at it this way: say I'm an american man that has good looks, an athletic body, great sexual performance capability, good health habits and I am also disciplined and professional... why would I work in the adult industry when my qualifications could get me a better paying and longer lasting career in several other industries? All I would need to do is get a decent education, have sex with a few older female executives or female supervisors and in about ten years I would be at the top of my field. Adult entertainment of the heterosexual category is geared towards female performers, financially. Moreover, a man that fills all those qualifications stated above could not work in adult and leave to have a normal work career, the stigma of sex work would follow forever thus limiting the potential level of success in other industries. For a top level american male the only way it really makes sense to do adult is to run your own company or have at least a stake in the company.

^ Very nicely put. It's certainly easier in the US if you're a business owner where you're not likely to be fired for working in porn and you can run your own business when you want to and do your thing in porn when you want to.

I assume there is a lot of male talent who would work there. Both American and international.

Another question is that they actually can't - even if they would. The niche is occupied by the same old men who won't quit.

What makes you think it's different in Europe?
Rocco for example was modeling at the beginning of his career , at the very beginning of his career he was just offered some side work in porn, after a while he realized he was working more and even earning more in porn than with regular mainstream modeling , so he decided to pursue a porn career for the money ,but he could have chose differently, maybe as a model he could have had a career as good as that in porn , who knows.

I believe Rocco has lasted as long as he has because he made it his own business rather than just being a performer. That is the difference I see between female and male performers, females can have long careers making good money just as performers while men can hardly do the same. Male performers often need to eventually run their own porn
companies in order to have a long well paying career.

Yeah, that's another factor. I think that has something to do with the industry not growing enough, not enough new companies which would bring new male talent. I dont blame the old companies for using the same aging men, these men are proven professionals who show up on time and do what is asked of them without demands and complaints from them. There is a big problem these days with young men acting like children in the workplace in many industries. If I run a pron company and I have a guy that is disciplined and professional I sure would book him until he drops dead

Sean Michaels lasts even longer without it , but that's not what I meant , he had two very different career paths ahead of him and he chose porn, we're talking the eighties but he begun his business career in the nineties, besides at first he was doing mostly feature movies rather than Gonzo which is his trademark so at the very beginning he wasn't "Rocco" yet , still he chose to do porn over mainstream modeling
