This thread is a report on the recent Sex on the Beach "expo" held last weekend at the Miami Beach Convention Center. I use the term expo loosely because as you will see in this report, calling this event an expo is like calling Pee-Wee football game the Super Bowl. Before we dive in, let me give you a little background information. I had first heard of this event several months ago when Lisa Ann posted some very angry tweets on her Twitter about how not only was she not appearing at the show, but the SOTB people were using her image to promote this event without her permission. This was blatant foreshadowing. As the months went by I didn't really hear anymore about this event other a few mentions here and there on Twitter. I was not planning to attend so I didn't bother applying for a media pass. However, as we got closer to the day of the show, more girls started announcing they would be appearing, approximately a dozen well known pornstars. Since there were several names in that group who caught my eye and I recently upgraded to a newer DSLR camera that needed to be broken in, I decided to drive down and attend as a paying customer. I would have liked to have gone on Friday but I work evenings and could not attend that day. I had seen some of the Tweets people were posting about the show saying how much it sucked, but I figured as long as the girls showed up I would be happy. I arrived a little after 5pm Saturday afternoon. I paid the usual $15 fee to park. Please note the fee for parking is charged by the City of Miami Beach, who owns the building & parking lot, not the show organizers. Th city charges for parking at all events held there, including the Exxxotica show in the Spring. However, this is still a cost to the customers attending the show. When I made my way to the ticket counter I experienced some sticker shock as general admission was $55 per person! So it was $70 just to walk through the front door (not including the cost of gas & tolls to get to South Beach.) The Exxxotica shows are usually about $35 for a ticket plus the $15 to park. So this may not have been an astronomical increase but it was significant. As walked to the door into the main convention hall, I was stopped by security so they could inspect my backpack. To their credit, it was very quick and painless. I simply unzipped the main compartment and the guy glanced inside and that was it. However, the fact that your possessions had to be inspected at all is ridiculous. I asked if they had a map of the floor plan or a directory listing of booths, which they did not. So you had no idea where anything was or how to find the booths where your favorite pornstar was signing. Luckily, I had checked the show website and previewed the floor plan. I also had check the Twitter feeds of the girls appearing so I knew where they were. Normally, the average person coming in off the street would have been up creek without a paddle but the place was empty finding the girls was no challenge at all. [Link] |

I've never had a girl more excited and happy to see me than she was that day. Before I had even finished setting my camera on the table and taking off my backpack she had hopped up out of her chair and was giving me a hug. I've met her a few times before at Exxxotica shows and a couple feature dance appearances. She was so grateful to finally see a real fan at the show. She confirmed just how awful the show was and said that the only reason she was still there was she was being sponsored by SearchXXX to promote them otherwise she never would have come back after Friday night. The poor girl was stuck there all night until closing at midnight. Not mention she was there Friday and would be there again on Sunday. Plus she had to make an appearance at South beach nightclub after she left the show that night! Nina certainly earned her paycheck that weekend! She's been busy as usual working as a webmaster for her XXXFastPass network of websites and she runs the FeatureElite agency booking pornstar feature dance appearances. Not to mention producing movies for her own production company, Heartbreaker Films and the occasional cam show and sex scene for her own personal website. Definitely one of the busiest ladies in the adult industry. Nina is one of my personal favorites who is always a pleasure to see at a show. [Link] |

She was supposed to do the same thing again for the Exxxotica Chicago show in July but ended up missing the show as she was just too exhausted to do it a second time. Nikki said she would be a the NJ show in November all three days with no feature dance conflict. You have to create a buzz to get people excited about the show. And most importantly, you MUST book lots of hot pornstars to appear at your show!! The pornstars are what bring in the fans. No pornstars = no fans. And if you can't convince a bunch of pornstars to appear at a show held in SOUTH BEACH, you shouldn't be in the porn expo business. No one is going to drive all the way to South beach, pay $70 for admission & parking so they can buy an e-cigarette, a vaporizer, a sex toy or a lollicock. However, they will drive all that way and pay that expensive admission ticket if it means they get to meet their favorite pornstar in person and take a photo with her & get her autograph. It appears that the SOTB people just didn't understand what it takes to put on one of these shows or they just didn't bother to put in the effort to make this event work. [Link] |
