No. If that's not a smoke detector, then it's a security device of some kind, either a motion detector or camera. But there is nothing common about most of the houses that they shoot porn at. Building codes in the US can vary quite a bit from state to state or city to city, plus of course existing buildings are usually exempted from the latest building codes until their next major renovation. So some latest and greatest safety device that's in all of the homes in a recently built housing development might be almost completely absent in an older neighborhood not that far away.
I mean i know what it is but your not saying that "special" american houses need to have this inside are you ? Cube Edited by - cubesnake on 9/25/2010 1:08:47 PM
It depends on the house and the neighborhood and if you have expensive stuff inside which might a target for burglars. In expensive houses it is probably common. In "average" homes it is less common. Nobody I know (friends/family) have cameras in their house but a few have security systems with door/window/motion detection.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of the high priced homes that are rented out for porn shoots have a camera based security system, if only to prove whether something was damaged while the home was being used for a shoot or not.
I would guess it's a web cam. And no. They're not common in that kind of installation. Many people have web cams on their computers but not mounted high up in such a way as to catch all activity in a room like that.
