Why haven't Vivid and/or Wicked started producing Sex and the City type gonzo movies to appeal to the women who want real sex, aswell as the men who don't want to see everything and the kitchen sink thrown into a gape hole. Something classy but at the same time sexy, raunchy with nice outfits and locals and hell maybe even a story line, so aslong as it has something to lead up to or do with the previous sex scene. Not a fucking sword fight in a barn or 9,000 cgi skeletons chasing the cast(I did like Pirates however lol).

When I was clerking it last year I got tons of complaints from customers that there was either too much of the RLD,ANA/DIA cum oozing holes routine or the whole needless time-piece big feature shot on film garbage.

Can't we have some Contemporary Porno? Something like Axel Braun's Compulsion springs to mind. https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/reviews/read_review.dlt/sku=10414/compulsion-%28elegant-angel%29.htm

Mind you I'm totally a gonzo fan, but I'm just amazed that they have not considered producing these kind of films. There's a whole market they could be reaching all the while not F'ing up cable deals and/or reputations.

Can this work or am I just a nut job with no clue..?

As far as I know Axel needed 3 months to write the script for Compulsion, I think that in gonzo scripts are made sometimes during a coffee break, at least I have the impression. And it would be better to completely leave them out in this case.

You need people with talent for writing or just performers with good improvisation talents.
I think they are very rare or just nobody wants to step out of the circle.

Okay, non-snarky answer:

Hang out on this board long enough and you're bound to see the phrase "with 10,000 titles a year, there something for everything". But when when you boil it down, 99.9% of these titles are, as you said, "either too much of the RLD,ANA/DIA cum oozing holes routine or the whole needless time-piece big feature shot on film garbage."

Inside the rather narrow parameter of gonzo/all sex, you can probably see every possible sex act one person can perpetrate on another, in every combination of genders, body types, ages, etc; so if "something for everyone" means all the possible permutations of cunt, cock, asshole, age, race, gender, size, then yes, there's probably something for everyone – everyone who relates to sex that way. And while that may be a substantial number of people who relate to sex that way, it's not everyone. Not nearly.

Meanwhile features still grind away, trying to do with $500,000 (or less) what Hollywood needs 100 times that amount (or more) to do credibly, then muddying the narrative waters with extended sex scenes; all with fairly predictably results – films that don't really work as movies or as porn, at least not for a lot of people who are open to the idea of watching sex on film, but whose tastes and standards are set by the very well-produced film and TV they see around them every day.

The trouble with what you're describing (Sex and the City, but porn) is that it would take as much money or more than producing something like Pirates , and it would be a lot harder to promote and sell. It's relatively easy to say, "We shot this in HiDef, on a real pirate ship, and it has 350 special effect shots." At least you can show the pirate ship and the skeletons!

It's much harder to say, "This film has a heat, raunch, and explicitness of porn movie, with the catchy, quirky fun of a good television show." Even if you could make a porno like that, how do you put that on a boxcover or poster? How do even get people to believe that a porn movie could be as well-made and watchable as an episode of Sex in the City. They'd have to see it to believe it, and that's much harder than you could ever imagine. (I know that at least half the good press that we've gotten was written by people who never even touched one of our DVDs, let alone actually watched one.)

When you're trying to make money, what you can sell is as important as what you can make; and what you're describing (which is something I'd very much like to see) is something that would be expensive to make, and in today's very crowded noisy market, would be very hard to sell. In short, it would be risky; and right now the prevailing conditions in the porn marketplace create a climate that is extremely risk averse.

dicknjane like gonzo too, but like you would prefer not to be shown the kitchen sink or anything else that is in that gaping hole everybody thinks we want to see inside. we don't normally enjoy features, but watched Hustler's "Debriefed" and liked it a lot. i think it would fit your Sex in The City description. the story had to be written in a coffee shop on the back of an envelope and was perfect for us ..... complicated stories get in the way of the sex for both the porn stars and pornsters. If you haven't seen "Debriefed" try it, we think you'll like it.

Agreed.

An excellent example of a story that is just enough to give some context and narrative drive, but not so much that it bogs things down can be seen in Crash Pad from Pink and White Productions (porn for pussies).

Whether or not one finds the hardcore, real dyke sex appealing is largely a matter of prediliction, but there's no denying that Shine Louis Houston has balanced the often divergent needs of narrative and sex quite nicely!

Adam & Eve has done the Sex and the City takeoff already. The series is called Naked Hollywood.

Maybe this shows my Manhattan prejudice, but Sex in the City seems so very New York, it's hard to imagine that that setting a takeoff in Hollywood would get you off to a good start.

In any event, I didn't understand Mr. Payday to be suggesting takeoff, so much as something with a similar production style: well dress, well groomed players, exciting, but realistic location, crisp production, and a light, smart attitude.

Payday?

I don't know, maybe my standards have been adjusted so low I don't know what I'm talking about anymore, but I think that's what a good percentage of Wicked's movies and many of Vivid's are, honestly.

I liked Compulsion, too, but not more than Second Thoughts, All About Keri, Polarity, What's A Girl Gotta Do?, One Man's Obsession, Key Party, or Over Her Head, just to name a few recent examples.

They're not all masterpieces of cinema, but generally speaking there are nice sets and real-life wardrobe and no skeletons. Maybe I don't understand exactly what you mean, either.

Exactly. To me it feels like there are only 2 molds being fit and that is the Big Feature with absolutely no spontinaeity and the all-sex/tease gonzo. They do work, but there is so much more potential. As far as breaking the trends and doing something quick-witted, smart but sexy at the same time.

I can totally understand that it would be difficult in that one of the reasons why a show like Sex and the City is so popular is because the writing is extraordinary and it hooked the viewers by unique character's and story lines etc..

The only thing that I've seen come close to this is the Shane's World movies featuring Penny Flame.(College Guide to More Pussy and Girls Night Out.) The lead ups before the scene's hooked us(or me atleast) for example; Jerry and Penny Flame blind fold Terri Summers and he then proceeds to tease her and kiss her all over making her visibly wet and her nipples hard as hell. It was fantastic and they fucked like banshee's for the remaining standard 20 minute gonzo fair.

I guess I'm describing Vignette movies. But ones done with a purpose, not something that was shot on a MiniDV Cam in a week and a half.(No matter how great those movies are :D)

I don't know if this fits your criteria exactly, and it's really just one scene, but DAC has a title called Sakura Angel with a well played out vignette between Kylie Rey and Annie Cruz. There was a great deal of realistic emotional interaction and the sex sizzled. It might be worth your while to give it a rent.

Seems to me, Payday, that you're looking for a film equivalent of the classier end of the porn fiction market. Sometimes I'll read a pornographic short story or novel and wish that I could see that sort of character/situation-based sex on screen a bit more often (or at all). The problem with some feature porn I've seen is that there are basically two movies rolled together - the one with the storyline and the one with the sex. I'm trying to think of a feature where the sex scenes have genuinely helped to drive the story and it's not that easy. Sometimes reading a piece of porno prose scratches an itch for me that porn films just can't reach...

Remember that the porn feature was born in the wake of court decissions that allowed porn to be shown movie theaters. Suddenly there was a way to make money in porn by spending more money .

The gonzo/all sex approach was (re)born in the wake of the video camera. Suddenly there was a way to make money in porn by spending a lot less money .

It's would be nice to thing that creative break throughs take place absent of economic insentive, and that artists are singlemindedly devoted to their visions, money be damned.

The reality is decidely more pedestrian. Everyone needs to eat, everyone wants a reliable set of wheels and a house that warm in the Winter. Those needs drive creativity as much as anything else; and the desire for something more than the basics is a powerful motivating force behind most innovation.

Right now the business side of porn is as stagnent as the creative side, and until a genuinely new opportunity to make money comes along, there's precious little to motive people to take either creative or financial risks. And in film, even if it's only low-budget porn, those are really one in the same.

Thanks, Picman, but please don't break Tony's stride as he explains how everything we do here in L.A. must suck, even if he's seen precious little of it. :)

Those companies don't do gonzo and those shows are unwatchable. Bad combination.
