Hi, I want to put a pix from a mag up to ask who the adult film star is, however, i cut it out of the magazine carefully and it was in a sex phone ad. It shows very little of the ad and is ok by the policy of ADT, but what about copyright infringement? Please advise so i do not break the law. Thank u.

I think copyright laws allow for fair use of copyrighted material, without any need to ask for permission from the copyright holder.
You can quote a passage from a book word for word to illustrate some point or to criticize the book. And the same rule probably applies to showing a picture from a picture magazine. Copying and showing a picture from a picture magazine to make some point is like quoting a passage from a book. It's fair use of copyrighted material, especially if you say where you got the picture from and give credit where credit is due.

There's still unfortunately no "quotation right" for images or moving images. Outdated copyright law is outdated (companies make big money keeping it that way, requiring clearances for everything...).
But this is the internet. Sort of like in Blood Diamond you know: "This is Africa".

Not being allowed to quote pictures from a picture medium might not be so good for media companies either.
If porn reviewers could post screenshots of the movie they were reviewing to illustrate their points, then their reviews would be more interesting and more informative to read. It would be like advertisement for porn movies. Because many more porn fans would read such reviews, and many of them would probably buy the movies.
