I think POV is actually much harder to do than being filmed by a third party. If you're just setting up a camera on a tripod, that's a little different. When you're holding the camera, it's just a lot of non-sexual things you have to think about. Those all contribute to lost wood. Sex is mental as much or more than physical. Teaching your mind to focus and avoid the distractions is key. I've heard male performers tell girls, particularly newbies, to focus on them and block out the distraction of the crew and lights and everything. It's good advice.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I shoot amateur and always pay in cash with a signed receipt because they're always skeptical about getting paid. If I tell them up front cash and then pay cash it seems to work better both at the time of booking and on the day of the shoot and for getting them back for a second video.
Legally porn performers must be in such a condition that he or she knows exactly what they are doing and are actually willing to participate (including not regretting their participation after he/she sobers up). If someone is not in such a condition as to understand what he/she is signing when the model release is signed a producer cannot legally use the scene in his movie. Even having an alcoholic beverage (or non-prescribed scheduled drugs) on set can place the whole movie in jeopardy. About the only company I know of that allows alcoholic beverages on set nowadays is Kink and then only for Public Disgrace and The Upper Floor scenes filmed in a drinking establishment/party. The hired talent for PD and TUF (and the director/producer) is not allowed to consume alcohol until after his/her participation is finished. In the past cast and crew were allowed to consume alcohol on set only after all filming was finished for the day (in the 70's and early 80's movies were filmed over several days and once filming finished for the day people would relax over a few drinks and a nice meal cooked by one of the actors or crew), now I understand alcohol is banned on set completely with most companies. That isn't even getting into the erratic and unstable behavior of drunk/high participants like the time John Holmes brought cocaine unknown to the producer and disappeared into a closet for hours smoking the cocaine he sneaked onto set -- he was found in a closet cowering in psychosis eight hours after his call time. The next scene John Holmes did was almost five years later (after he had contracted AIDS, caused the murder of four people and just about lost the ability to get his dick erect all from drugs) in Europe as he became a pariah in US porn for that stunt.

The porn industry is not as profitable as it used to be, and the only way to make substantial money is to shoot many scenes, which entails a serious risk for STDs. I would advise against getting involved in the industry these days. Kink.com pays better than most of the hardcore industry with less of an STD risk, but working for Kink requires doing some fairly heavy BDSM stuff.
