His, Hers, Your's, Mine & Everybody Else's: A Practical Look At Couples Lubes By SexShopJulie Everyday in the shop customers come in and ask about couples lubes. So, I thought I would address some commonly asked questions about these his and her lubes.
Please excuse my typos. My A button is sticking after a little mishap with the chocolate covered cherries I was eating last night!
These lines of lubes are designed to work together for F/M couples. Brands like KY and Wet! each produce and market their own version of couples lubes and are brands most people are familiar with. We carry Wet! brand at my shop but I will be addressing both brands because they are the two people ask me about the most.
Probably one of the first questions people ask me is, "What is it supposed to do?"
For one thing, they are meant to enhance a couple's sexual experience with a little extra stimulation. Sometimes they also double as lubricant.
The next question is always, "How?"
Both of these brands have something in the "hers" to stimulte blood flow to her genitals. Mainly, the clitoris and for some women, the inner labia. This makes us gals more sensitive, making it easier to come a little quicker. We like it when that happens.
Active ingredients, you ask? KY uses menthol and Wet! uses peppermint extract in their "her" lubes.
Now personally, I like peppermint. It makes a very cool sensation without any sting or Icy/Hot feeling you sometimes get with menthol. It also tastes better if you get some in your mouth.
With Wet! she gets silicone with peppermint. So keep that in mind with your silicone toys including silicone cock rings and butt plugs. (Remember, you can always cover it with a condom. I prefer the good old fashioned unlubricated kind.)
With KY, "hers" is a pretty standard water based lube along with the menthol. However, it also contains fragrance (that is to say there is one listed), which some women (and men) might be sensitive to.
KY also claims on it's package and advertising that "his" has a warming sensation. My customers tell me neither brand warms much if at all. Neither contain anything that cause a warm sensation by some kind chemical activation. So when men do feel warmth, I'm not sure exactly how. I can't find anything that explains it.
Wet! only contains glycerin and Vitimin E- in that order. Both of those ingredients sometimes give men the after sex itchies. Ya know......that feeling you get right after the big O, when you're layin there tryin to catch your breath and you know if you dont get up soon and go wash your balls, you're gonna be diggin at em all night? Yeah, that comes from the glycerin.
KY also contains glycerin as the main ingredient. It does have a couple ingredients that would cut back on stickiness but it also contains other sugary ingredients like honey and sucralose. Sugar can cause the yeastie beasties for women as well as itchy dick. Seems kinda counterproductive to me.
The reason I think they do this ( and this is just a theory) is because when men put menthol on their penis, it can make them overly sensitive. So by giving him a stickier lube, he gets a little bit of a barrier from that.
If his is a brand that actually does warm, the warming senstion can also make him feel little harder because warmth can help increase blood flow for men. Everyone likes a stiffer tool.
And I just want to note here: that some women prefer a warm lube rather than cooling. So couples lubes might be a waste of money for you and yours. You could just buy a really nice warming lube for both of you and probably save some money.
So what's this all mean?
With both brands, since hers has the cooling and his helps buffer the cooling, they help her come quicker, yet he's still able to go his regular pace. They both get a nice smooth glide and everyone is feeling really good. I've had some ladies tell me they were actually able to pace themselves just right and come with him.
For some of us, that's just the best! Especially for some women who have to work a little harder for the O. Kinda makes you both feel like you've achieved something maybe you haven't had in a long time.
Makes me think of a Beatle's song......come together....right now.....over me!
So there you go!
Don't be afraid to try ny of the fun lubes. If you're not the sensitive type and you don't think they would irritate you in anyway, give em a go!

Thanks for the info, SexShopGrl. My wife and I have always used a water-based lube with a ribbed condom. It keeps all the parts slippery. Would you recommend a brand of condom that is popular with women? Thanks. Edited by - dogzcatcher on 12/6/2011 3:19:13 AM
Trojan Twisted Plesaure and Trojan Fire & Ice seem to be popular.

Still a big fan of Wet Platinum silicone lube. We tried the Wet Ecstasy but wifey didn't care for the tingling sensation. Me being a huge lover of eating pussy, found that there was no unnatural taste when using just regular Wet Platinum. It works for us, so ain't going to stray from the old reliable.
My wife and I prefer to use Astroglide. It works for vaginal sex and for anal sex. Astroglide tends to last for a long time and has an excellent feel to it. Here is the kind we use.
If his is a brand that actually does warm, the warming senstion can also make him feel little harder because warmth can help increase blood flow for men. "Everyone likes a stiffer tool." <<<<--- favourite qoute hahahahah! does ky his and hers really create a tingle sensation for her? i got her k.y intense which was a waste of money and just ended up burning her clit and vagina and ended up wiping it off every attempt we try so we left it aside. is there any couple lubes that create tingle sensations for both me n her??? that wud be a nice pop rock feeling ^.^
THE yours and mine has menthol in it. So as I said in the little "article" it would give a cooling sensations. Intense is an arousal balm and Y&M are lubes. So, the reaction isn't going to be as strong either.
We have never had any trouble with the Astroglide that we told you about above. We do not like any of the warming liquid lubricants. They irriate both of our genitals. We used to use KY jelly a long time ago. That stuff was such a mess. We do emjoy the information and statements that you have about lubricants. Edited by - Steve Smith on 12/15/2011 11:56:37 AM
One comment: Flavored condoms and/or flavored lubes are one way to get your wife/concubine to give you a blow job after a few alcoholic drinks (or I suppose her favorite illegal drug). I don't know if SSG's store sells these but Adam & Eve does sell them via catalog and website. Just make sure to withdraw from her mouth before ejaculating if you don't have a condom on your dick (and don't cum on her body either, this isn't porn we are discussing) or you will get slapped hard in the face and kneed in the nuts! If your wife/concubine is more adventurous you could try to get her to blow you before going to the bar or even under the bar table, carry flavored condoms to the bar with you to be safe.

If they can make flavored condoms and lubes for the ladies and make all sorts of fruity-smelling shampoo for them as well, why can't they make edible panties that taste like bisquits and gravy for us fellas?
Yes we do sell flavored condoms. ALthough I prefer good old fashioned Trojan Non-lubed. I like them for covering toys and if I use them for blow jobs it's usually cause he wants me to bite him but bare teeth are just a bit much. I can also use Good Head with them or make my own chocolate with fudge body topping. I have never seen gravy flavored panties but I have been seeing quite a bit of bacon flavored lubes and things of that sort.
I guess if you are using flavored lube the condom also having flavoring would be a bit of overkill. As for gravy and bacon flavored panties, lube or condoms, it seems like that wouldn't be very appetizing IMHO although I guess it would likely be better than cum flavor (being a man I haven't tasted cum but the stuff doesn't look too appetizing to me).
Actually I think most men wouldn't expect anyone but a prostitute and porn performer to swallow. I know I have not ever made a woman swallow my load. I would actually more expect most women to wear a pair of handcuffs than give a blow job anyway. There is always the pussy and the ass for fucking. Of course if a girlfriend offers me a BJ and I am fucking her anyway why not let her give it to me (with condom of course)? Edited by - mharris127 on 12/27/2011 1:02:10 AM

^^^There is nothing like the feeling of a woman taking a full load in her closed mouth while she is blowing you. The feeling of her varying her sucking motion of swirling her tongue around the head of your dick can't be duplicated by her pussy or ass. What she chooses to do afterwards is her choice. If she wishes to swallow...great! If she wants to spit, I'm certainly not disappointed. You may be surprises how many woman enjoy bringing you off that way. I have had numerous lady friends who would take the load even when you informed them you were ready to pop.
^ In that case, you could be a nice guy and have a fresh glass of water nearby for her to wash the cum out of her mouth after swallowing every last drop. I don't have a problem with a woman swallowing or spitting either but I guess a non-condom clad BJ just isn't that high on my priorities list. Since I don't want kids I don't fuck a woman without a condom, I am actually thinking about a vasectomy if I can convince a doctor to do it (I have known people try to get one without having children and the docs said to come back after having a couple of kids). I am thinking that at my age a doctor may waive that rule for me as I am a bit older (old enough for grandchildren, actually). It would be nice to chuck the condom when I fuck a woman that I trust or one with a recent VD test.

I cannot recall feeling any difference between using a condom and not using one. I use one with my wife. I haven't been clipped and at her age it would be dangerous for her to become pregnant. I like the feeling when she rolls a condom down my length.
^ I was trying to go for laughs, actually. The chances of getting crabs do theoretically increase with the number of partners but honestly I don't think very many people get crabs anymore in Western society, I haven't heard of anyone getting it in years.

While most women don't like to take my load in their mouth, my current lady LOVES it, begs for it, and is disappointed if she doesn't get her jizz blast orally at least once.
Of course we do SSG-it's only fair. Why is it that women assume us swallowing THEIR juices is just a given? Yet, swallowing OUR juices is some big fucking deal? Seriously-it's a double standard that should stop. And to address the next likely remark: Any man who can turn a woman on and has good oral skills knows he swallows AT LEAST a tea spoon's worth of that lady's juices-so "volume" is not a valid argument-there really IS no valid rebuttal, the double standard here has been in place way too long, with no logical justification. If a woman won't swallow, she really shouldn't ask a guy to lick her for more than 3 minutes (or until her juices start really going) either. Sex is about giving and pleasing, there is no room for double standards.
Ah-and on the spitting issue-again, I suggest all these women consider if the whole time a man was eating them out they would spit or keep wiping their mouths with a towel... I mean let's be real here-the tastes of each fluid are equally strong. Edited by - seedfeeder on 2/1/2012 5:59:37 PM
Seedfeeder, are you on your man rag or something? Why does it have to be an argument at all? I don't like facials, who says I haven't tried it? I think bukkake is gross but if you like cum all over your face then knock yourself out. I find it ironic that guys always seem to enjoy watching a girl lick herself off his fingers, his cock or toy, yet those same men would be totally mortified if she asked him to lick himslef off her tits, face or pussy. Talk about double standards.
Frankly SSG I wouldn't give a woman an intentional facial during non-industry sex (and I am not attractive enough for non BDSM sites anyway). I understand it happens inadvertently occasionally when a woman takes a penis out of her mouth after being told by the man that he is about to cum but I don't see the fun in a woman getting blasted in the face with a load of jizz -- for either gender. As for a man consuming a woman's fluids unless she is a squirter there is a big difference in viscosity and amount between a woman's natural lubricating fluid and a man's cum. I can't testify to taste as I haven't ever tasted man's cum nor do I plan to.
I'll agree to your double standard... except I cannot relate. I like to lick my lady off my fingers, or her fingers... and I like to watch her lick me off her hands, although I rarely miss. Nor have I heard of this double standard. However, the one I brought up: Women pretending swallowing cum is any different than 3 minutes of good oral sex on a woman is a well known, well established, sweeping double standard perpetuated by women. I appreciate do appreciate distraction tactics though, jolly good.
I already addressed volume: If you've never swallowed a teaspoon of female juices while performing oral, then I question your skills. Hell, with most girls, they have that much juice before I get there orally from the teasing foreplay alone. And as far as "viscosity" goes, that's ridiculous: Women vary a lot in their viscosity-as men do. In both cases, sometimes its thick, sometimes it's very watery. So once, again, I'm wondering if you're reading a book or why you would say things that run contrary to truth. And the argument remains solid regardless: The real issue is taste for many women: They don't even want it in their mouths. Frankly, all those women should be boycotted period with cunnilingus til they learn how to perform a return favor. And again, going further-any women that don't want a man spitting through oral, distracting them from their pleasure, and frequently using a towel, to wipe them off his tongue, should start swallowing as the double standard cannot be ignored.
Also-the squirting argument is even more ridiculous past the previous reasons-on the issue of volume. They squirt about a half a cup, usually more, like a full cup.... and you're comparing that too a teaspoon. Are you trying to curry favor with internet strangers? Or why the idiotic argument that is 100% skewed to the woman's favor?
Also, SSG: I was just kidding about the bukkake lol. I don't doubt you've tried most things I can think of.... okay, that's unlikely true-but let me try again: I don't doubt you've tried most things the avereage guy has thought of. And no man rag-my point about swallowing and the double standard is very accurate and solid, with or without a man rag slew of emotions :)
I guess there is a double standard as some have suggested. Maybe it comes from a chauvinistic impulse present in everyone raised in my time (in my generation most women were stay at home moms and treated like they were somewhat fragile -- even though I tend to discount the fragile part today). I also realize that a minority of women squirt cups of fluid (Annie Cruz is the best example I can think of, she definitely isn't getting eaten out by me because of that "talent") but most don't excrete any more than a man does in my experience and usually less (or maybe my loads are more copious, I am a man and I have ejaculated an eighth cup at a time especially if it has been a week or two since I last ejaculated). Also, just because I evidently don't mind a woman's lubricant doesn't mean all women should be forced to swallow my evidently massive loads. Not all men will eat a woman out either (and others will only do it with a dental dam), probably for the same reason.
It doesn't matter if she squirts or not. How many mean here have licked up their own cum? So really, the argument is completely pointless. AND completely off topic.
This is a much more reasonable argument. But it's different than my point of the double standard-again, my problem is with the ASSUMPTION by women -that men should as a matter of course swallow their liquids as part of the deal, while those same women may try to even avoid pre-cum-it's a selfish, one sided, ridiculous argument/way of thinking. And 1/8 is well beyond the norm-the average guy ejaculates a tea spoon-so you know what I mean now-no question a decent male oral lover would consume this much pleasing his lady. It is cultural and it is incorrect. Just like on Curb Your Enthusiam-the argument is made that some potential women go around saying a particular man is not well endowed-yet they never consider they may be what larry david calls "Big Vagina Women". While in the case of the show, it is likely true about the small penis-the double standard is again true here, as women vary just as much in their "tightness" as men do in length and girth.... Yet nobody ever mentions it; as Larry says "These Big Vagina Womeen have been getting a free ride for way too long!"
No the argument is valid to the objective: We each have liquids, that can or cannot be consumed during oral sex, of similar amounts and certainly of equal degrees of tastiness or nastiness. Yet in one case, it is assumed that one will consume the liquids, in the other case it is treated as a special honor. Complete double standard, like it or not.
The difference for me is that a man will know what I taste like on first lick. Yet I won't know how nasty or good he tastes he actually comes. So there.

^ As long as attractive women don't squirt like a fire hose (I prefer my face and neck to not get sprayed during sex), poor hygiene or have BV (stinky pussy caused by a fungal infection) most men don't care about the woman's natural lube. However, a man has just as much right not to want to orally pleasure a woman as the other way around. Edited by - mharris127 on 2/5/2012 1:46:23 AM
