An open note to Cal Vista Classic / VCX in case someone there reads this forum.
I wrote this in my review of Girl Service but I wanted to mention it here in case anyone wants to talk about it. I don't mean this in a snotty or sarcastic way: I'm being serious and I think I'm trying to be helpful:
Credit the performers.
I realize that some of these things, maybe nobody knows who they are. But one of the bonus materials on Girl Service is a piece called Pussycat Ranch, and I recognized the performer as Arcadia Lake. If I didn't recognize her, I'd have never known she was on this DVD.
For these obscure features and "bonus" scenes, knowing who the performers might drive sales a bit. My guess is that there are fans of some of these people and they've love to know they're on this DVD, but the only way they'd find them is to buy the DVD blind and stumble on it.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that when someone lifts a scene from the VCX library, somewhere there's a credit of who the performers are in the scene. If not, how about inviting some of the more knowledgable people here (are some people here are incredible) to ID them from a still? It can't hurt, and it may help. Plus, if I see someone on one of these things who really rings my bell, I'd be a lot more likely to look at other obscure titles in your catalog to find more scenes with them.
I'd suggest the same thing to Alpha Blue Archives, and anyone else who re-releases these, golden, gilded and moldy oldies. Knowing up front who's in these things is an advantage, not a drag.

^ I find this especially irritating re: male performers. That's often more important to me than the female performers. Yeah yeah, porn is for men, the dudes don't matter etc. I think we know that's not true, even for the stridently heterosexual men amongst us. I often buy DVDs that do not list the male star of the film on the cover, and I'm pleasantly/unpleasantly surprised when he pops up.
My VCA dvd of Great Sexpectations doesn't list Eric Edwards anywhere on the box, not even on the back (where they *do* list R. Bolla). If I hadn't done some research, I may not have bothered with it, assuming it wasn't a real sequel to Sexcapades. Turns out, it's probably Edwards' finest performance.
Anyway, not trying to derail from Cal Vista/VCX -- it's an issue I have with most companies. Elegant Angel, one of my favourite companies, is probably the single worst offender. I have asked about it a couple of times, as have others, to no avail. That's for another thread and forum though.

You're not, it's a valid point. It's a double standard regarding billing.
I don't mean this to be exclusively a Cal Vista thing. But it's top of mind to me because I've got several of their "classic" era DVDs and it's something I've been thinking about for awhile.

Quite possibly at the time many of the less well known performers, both male and female, either did not want to be credited, or quite simply the studio kept no records or simply threw them out.

In some cases I agree, but in some cases I think they just don't feel like it, and I think they're missing the boat. I gave the Arcadia Lake example above. Some of the other clips they had may have had minor stars as well; or at least someone with some name recognition.
I still think it would be good for business. They could also use it as a way of teasing a new title. Post a message on ADT: "we've got a new DVD coming out. Do you know who these performers are," and put up some stills. Maybe make it into a contest: if you correctly ID someone, you're in a drawing to win a free DVD, or $10 coupon for XRent, or a thank you credit on the DVD.

You've got to remember that at the time most of these films were made they were probably considered as having no shelf life at all. They were (mostly) made to make a quick buck and after that chuck them in the trash can. Of course they couldn't foresee what would happen after film and video, how digital media just hungers for content, whether its old or new I'm sure if the producers knew there would be a market for their film twenty years down the line (and they'd get a cut of it), they might have done things differently.

So let's do an experiment.
Who are these people?
These are screen caps from the bonus scenes from Girl Service. I'm curious to know if they are "anybody."
There was another guy in the scene with Danielle, who I recognized as Paul Thomas. His name shows up on the beginning credits to his bonus clip. But not on the box art and not in the on-line databases that carry this movie. So if you're GGG and you want to know where to find Paul Thomas, you wouldn't find him on the Girl Service DVD.
Anyway, I'm not doing this to be a dick. I'm seriously curious.

Precisely, and I would definitely seek out a Paul Thomas flick. It's annoying. (P.S. Is Girl Service any good?)

No, it's awful. It's a low budget drive-in type movie that happens to be hardcore. Girl Service is a white slavery ring that sells girls. You might like it if you watch it for laughs.
Just to be clear: Paul Thomas isn't in the "Girl Service" feature itself. He's in one of the four bonus scenes which are lifted from other movies (or maybe they're just bits. I dunno). I don't know which movie it originally came from.
