The cutaway to the face was done for the softcore cable market to imply that an orgasm was occurring when edited versions were shown. Since you can get hardcore on cable and satellite now this feature has been obsolete for years.

the cutaway was in movies before softcore cable came along. Even the Holy Grail of modern porn Deep Throat does this in the famous/infamous bj scene between Linda Lovelace & Harry Reems. According to Ron Jeremy, the cum face shot was started to help with fake cum shots. The guy would be getting head and then they show the cum face, then back to the actual cum shot in progress. The cum shot in progess showed the guy more or less squeezing "Cum" out of his cock onto the girl. In Jeremy's recent book, he explains the whole faking thing.
