By Sarah Bernard and The Thread Ladies, tell me you agree. There is a horrific beauty double standard going on that we have to do something about. Now that it's summer, we've all been upping our beauty game— more shaving and waxing, keeping toenails in check— so the terrible grooming habits of our guys have become all the more glaring. Why is stomach-turning neglect (or in certain cases, too much attention) the norm? We're not asking guys to do anything we don't do ourselves. If you're feeling extremely grossed out by what you're seeing thanks to flip-flops and bathing suits, take comfort in this: You are not alone. We asked our Facebook friends (affectionately known as "Threaders") to share the grooming issues that irk them the most, and the answers were awfully familiar. One Threader asked if we could please paste the comments "on a huge billboard that all men can see." Well, here's our billboard equivalent! See the top ten offenses below and add more by posting on our Facebook wall. 1. Long, dirty toe nails. Or, as one Threader called it, "Hobbit feet." I love that. It's true. Guys, you don't have to sit for a pedicure, but there's no excuse for claws filled with dirt. 2. Hair where it shouldn't be. Nose hair was the number-one complaint with ear hair a close second. "Why is it so hard to buy a trimmer and a mirror?" asked a completely reasonable Threader. We don't have the answer. 3. Mouth madness. This is just basics. We're brushing, flossing, and whitening, but certain guys seem to think they can get away with "yuck mouth," as a Threader called it. Not true. 4. Unattractive smells. This can mean not showering often enough or not embracing deodorant. This is also related to #3 (see above). 5. Eyebrow issues. Either overgrown or over plucked. We don't want unruly, caveman hairs, but we also don't want you to look more sculpted than we do. 6. Too much cologne. If everything you touch starts to smell like your medicine cabinet, that's not good. 7. Too much waxing. There's grooming and then there's grooming. No one wants to feel like they're with a newborn. 8. Dry, cracked heels. You can put lotion on them, you know. 9. Hair that never moves. If your hair is as hard as a car door, you've got to rethink your products. 10. Letting your blackheads live on. Everyone has zits, especially in the hot and sweaty summer. But, jeez, if you have blackheads on your face, deal with them or book a facial where someone else will.

I'm surprised there isn't more emphasis placed on removing body hair. There seems to be more concern about waxing too much rather than not enough. Where is body hair ok and where isn't it? Where do women want it trimmed and where to remove totally??
I think most women (I don't fall into this category - I'm of Lebanese descent, adult men are HAIRY in my world, I get a little bit grossed out with men who have little/no body hair.) think men should have a reasonable amount of hair in the usual man places, i.e. chest, lower legs, underarm, pubic, forearms and face. I think overly thick hair in these areas makes women wonder if he could "trim it a bit or something" and hair in other areas, i.e. back, buttocks, belly, upper arms, thighs, ears, neck, feet is hair most women think a man might want to remove.
It's one of those dumb articles linked from Yahoo front page. Lots of lists. I probably have all those problems except the ones for too much cologne and too much waxing. Oh, and my hair moves. No hairspray for me.

Somebody should really share this tip with the guys working in porn.
Some of them are reasonable but...Not a problem with me for sure. I already shave the areas that I presume no women like hair, but I leave the rest. If you want me waxed, then you do it for me. If a girl demanded I wax anything but my back, I'd either leave her or accept with the condition that she would go completely unshaved for a few months.Is there any scientifically proven way to get rid of those? I know there's all sorts of advice thrown around but does anything actually work?
So someone with little or moderate body hair in the second category, and moderate to much in the first category, would have to do some 'work' on practically all of his body hair. I'm not complaining, but that's more of a job than most women do. Still it is a lot more reasonable than being smooth all over which I've heard some women (or should I say girls) say that they prefer. That would require waxing every inch to avoid stubble and would be about as reasonable as a guy demanding that his girl get a full wax + lip/boob/nose job.
I'm sort of guessing, honestly. Kind of compiling things my daughter has said with things I've heard a few other women say with things that sort of float around in the media (but not specific advertising, which I assume tries to convince everyone they need to buy something to change their body into something else). Like I said, I'm a bit freaked out with guys that have little body hair, it just looks all wrong to me. Most American women shave (or otherwise depilate) their legs from crotch to ankle, their underarms, and their forearms if they are very hairy. Most groom their pubic area in some way (trimming or shaving) - and dare I say, they pluck hairs that grow on their breasts, too. Most remove unwanted hair on the face - brows, upper lip, chin, etc. Seriously, that is a lot of maintenance. Guys seem to be relatively unforgiving when women don't comply. Stubbly legs, hairy underarms, and other "unsightly" grooming errors are prime complaint territory for men in long-term relationships. In my previous profession, I got an earful about wives that no longer "took care of themselves" like they used to. When that came from a guy with a pubic jungle that made me want to go get a machete, it was all I could do to keep from rolling my eyes and sighing heavily... Mostly, I just wanted to tell them, "Dude, you pay me to shave and work-out and put on make-up. Give her the time and money you're giving me and she'd probably be happy to do it."
I like very smooth legs but I could deal with hairy underarms, fuzzy forearms and upper lip. Hell, I even like hairy underarms. Especially with girls who have black hair. I've shaved my own legs a few times before and I admit it's a huge pain in the ass. I honestly don't know how women do it. But I'm glad they do. Edited by - randomprecision on 7/23/2011 9:51:56 PM
It's a good thing to think of in the shower :) I wonder if I should revive that thread... I have learned new lessons at my new jobs. They have significantly less to do with personal hygiene these days.
Okay I just read through some of that and what got me were the comments about how hard it is for the guy to stay clean. We have pussies and it's not like we can't keep them clean. So what was the excuse again? I'm the type that likes to have fun in bed. There is nothing better than a good romp BUT I ain't goin down on smelly balls.

Well, when they were giving ME the money, I generally assumed they didn't have twice as much to give her an equal amount. Of course, I could be wrong. There were a few different general types of married guy customers. Those who liked and loved their wives, but just wanted to fuck around no matter how much she put out. Those who liked and loved their wives, but didn't get any at home. Those who didn't like their wives (but may have loved them), and wouldn't have been happy even if she did want to have sex with them, and she didn't. It was always the guys in the latter two categories that had negative things to say about their wives.
I am SO not a foot guy, I ignore this one.I am fairly conscious about nose hair and ear hair. Pubic Hair, leg hair not so much.Yuck mouth? I chew gum, brush, floss and mouthwash. But when I wake up with my woman and we both have bad breathe I just don't care. I totally make out with her and rub my hands all over her body, it starts the day off good.I am a shower maniac, sometimes I shower 4 times a day. Sometimes when I get home from work and I think I smell bad and want to take a shower she corners me and attacks me, ripping my shirt off. She tells me that she loves a man who is dirty from working and I am not going to disagree.Heh. I am very lucky with my hair, it is soft and long.I am pretty good at eliminating blackheads.

I carefully squeeze the pus and blackhead out of my affected follicles but be careful or you can cause scarring. Washing your face daily (I use the leftover shaving cream from shaving -- but I use a brush and puck) may also help.
