What is involved in the decisions to release older stuff to dvd? It would seem to me that there is a ton of great stuff just sitting there waiting for me to purchase on dvd if someone would just get off their butts and release it. Western Visuals videos for example. A lot of Rodney Moore stuff also. In browsing the IAFD one can find a lot of older stars that have almost nothing available on dvd. Is the thinking that they just are no longer marketable? I'm sick of gonzo and long for more plot driven classics !!!

There are a lot of questions involved in this, for instance:
Is there a proper master still available?
Does your production team have time to author a DVD from said master? They are usually busy with your new productions.
Rights, it not always clear with older material who exactly has the rights.
Then there is always the question whether it will be financially a good idea to release older material.
And even with a master, we don't release all of our old material on DVD because we think the picture/sound quality is just not good enough for a transfer to DVD.

^ Thanks that helps clarify some things for me. I hate to bitch about the Western Visuals stuff so much but I'm still going to. There sure are a lot of older vids I would love to have.

In many cases its noth worth the work and the effort. If someone could come up with a good download on demand or burn on demand service this could probably become more common because I agree with you a lot of older stuff really should be rereleased.
