Hey, how's it going,

I know that Axel Braun from Elegant posts on here so I hope he doesn't get pissed at this, but...

Am I the only one who has noticed a stark decline in quality from Elegant Angel over the past year or so? I saw "Cellar Dweller 4" when it came back and was impressed with it, but I noticed that it had a darker look to it than most other product. I figured that was Elegant Angel's style. See, it seems to me that most of the companies have certain distinctive qualities that will be in all of their product, whether it be superb lighting and make-up or a habit of re-using locations. The importance in porn rests largely on the quality of the women in front of the camera, but all of those little things like lighting and camera work really are just as important in the long run. So, I figured a darker look was Elegant Angel's style. However, all of the recent stuff I have seen from them has been worse than that. I find that I can find better value in anything from Evil Angel, Red Light, West Coast, or from newer companies like Platinum X and Zero Tolerance. Zero Tolerance's mission statement was something along the lines of having zero tolerance for shitty porn. Well, I am not trying to say that Elegant Angel is producing that, but I definitely know that there is much better product out there right now than what they produce.

Is it possible that I have just come across a couple of bad apples and am making a generalization unfairly from those. Possibly. SO, here is what I am going off of:

"Heavy Handfulls"-Great scene with Taylor St. Claire and a decent one with Nicole De Boer, but the rest of it was just not that good. It was a combination of bad set-ups, camera work, and quality of the women (beside Taylor and Nicole).

"Heavy Handfull 2"-Amee Donovan and Taylor Hill? It must be blazing hot, right? Well, I didn't think it was. Taylor Hill's scene was far too short and suffered from horrible camera work, never putting the view where it needs to be. The scene with Misty Mendez, set outside, seemed somewhat grainy. And Amee Donovan's scene was just dark.

"Sodomania 38"-Bad lighting. Bad lighting. Bad lighting.

"Sodomania 39"-Bad lighting with some poor camera angles. Ann Marie and Bella-Marie's scene was nice and the addition of Bridgette O'Toole (I kind of wanted to see her get down and dirty though) as the temporary host was nice, but it wasn't all that great. Too many dime a dozen Eurogirls.

"Filthy First Timers 33"-This had an unbelievably appealing boxcover and a very hot cast with the one-shoot star Sage St. Claire and Kelsy Way along with Lily French and two other women. However, I thought it was again directed very amateurishly. Sage's hot scene was ruined for me by bad camerawork. Kelsy's suffered from bad lighting. I understood it that a newcomer Mr. Chris, who used to run an amateur pornsite, directed it. I am sure he will do better, but this was not that great of first outing.

Now, everyone seemed to love Mason's work so maybe her stuff during her brief time with them was th exception, but I really will not be checking out any more Elegant Angel stuff unless it has a girl I really, really want to see like Taylor St. Claire. All of the other companies I listed have produced some bad product. I've seen some stuff from Joey Silvera that was ruined due to poor lighting and I don't think that Justin Slayer's work at WCP is to the caliber of Pumper, Stefano, and their other directors. However, they all still put out more hot stuff than bad.

Also, what the hell is with Elegant Angel's concentration on Euro-girls?

That's just my opinion. I could be wrong. I haven't been able to really specify specific enough things to support my opinion, but oh well. If I were in the business myself or knew more about the technical aspects of filming, which I should but don't yet considering I am minoring in film at college, then I could maybe have a more qualified opinion. yet again, oh well

There are vast and legion threads and comments on Elegant on ADT. Start here, and somewhere in there you'll get lucky ADT members reports from a visit to EA last year, where quality control was very much the topic.

Did you see Big Bottom Sadie, which was re-released in a souped up deluxe version?

I haven't seen too many of their recent titles, but I had no complaints about Slave Dolls or Tails of Perversity 9, in terms you describe. They were both pretty rockin'.

Anyway, poke around ... become friendly with the Search function, you'll find plenty of answers to your question.

maybe slightly out of topic but .. I gave up on Elegant Angel 1) when Collin had to go all the way to Budapest to film Tiannas first anal (why did he do that? what could be the reason?.. keeping the valley studs away from his wife's ass?)... I had this hope of seeing her doing her first anal with Tom Byron .. after all no one else had worshiped her beautiful ass like Tom did on so many occasions.. I feel T Byron was cheated out of a nice tight butt.. so was I in a way.. and the thugs that did anal with Tianna.. jesus .. were they the best Collin could find for her?... I think EA would have made good money if they had filmed and marketed Buttwoman's first anal in a professional way but they threw it away... and soon after that Tianna left the businness .. great loss to many .. she was really hot and I loved her tight butt... specially when J. Stagliano captured it on film
2) when Tom Byron left the company and moved to Extreeme.. so did I.. I don't think I've watched a Elegant A video since then..

GoldHat -- I sorta feel the same way now that Mason has left for PXP. My interest was rekindled when Dirty Trixxx 2 came out, as well as Sadie. The company has obviously had a major impact on the industry: Look where all their directing talent has ended up, like Dion with RLD, for instance, and Tom was going great guns for a while. I'm looking, more and more, for RLD to move up a notch with its new rosters of directors (as in, let's start seeing some scenarios .... not just the same-old, same-old) and for PXP to totally change the face of what fans can expect from an adult entertainment company. Evil Angel still rules supreme, but I think it's gonna be tough for OTHER companies new and old to stay ahead of the curve in the coming year. Elegant seems to be taking steps to improve its offerings, but I haven't see all that much of its current catalog, so I can't really say much else here.

The Hardcore Innocence series was good, but Ribas is now at RLD. Mason stuff is great, but she is now at Platinum X Pictures, Slave Dolls was amazing, but will Jake Malone still be allowed to make movies like this? Seems like Elegant is getting away from the harder edged rough stuff, Patrick Collins said this himself. bad move in my opinion.

I haven't seen a new Elegant Angel DVD in months, so I can't comment on the quality now.

But their she-male lines were always second rate, bottom qaulity. More than likely directed by someone who wasn't into the whole she-male vibe. So the quantity/quality was bad from the start. You can't have a she-male with a huge scar running from nipple to base of her breast and think that that looks good. Or can ya?

I also have heard that Patrick is too controlling, not allowing the directors to run with ideas. After all, Tom Byron was there and gone, Rob Black, Van Damage, Jessica Darlin', Tony Ribas, David Lugar, Dion Giarrusso, Vince Vouyer, Mason, Jordan brothers (who I think left).

When you look at all who have been there, but left, you would think that maybe Elegant Angel could've been a powerhouse?

I don't know what their philosophy is, but I do know that I've enjoyed about 79% of their releases, that I have seen.

I haven't seen many releases from them, but the last two that I saw, Big Bottom Sadie and Seductions were both excellent films.

Mike, when I was at Metro yesterday, getting things ready for Bridgettes next movie, that she will produce and direct on May 9th, titled Dirrty 2. The new General Manager, who use to run Rosebud, said they have found a director who dates she-males and is going to be doing a line. Joey Wilson is going to completely turn Metro around on all of their new stuff, that is hardcore gonzo. Bridgettes movie will be all anal, D.P.. There will be 2 3-ways and one 6 guys on one girl. There will be 7 girls in all.
I will keep you updated when I get more info.

I did notice awhile back a decline in their box cover art,it was starting to look very cheap.

Your post reminded me of a horrible sin EA commited, how can you put Ann Marie in Sodomania and not bang her ass?I know she doesn't do anal, but what the krunk is she doing in a movie called SODOMANIA???????????????????????????

I noticed the decline with the Sodomania serie. The Sodomania serie use to be one of the best serie out there and i bought every volume but after volume 20 it went downhill pretty fast. The first 20 volumes also had a lot of foot-fetish stuff in it but hardly anymore after that.

I hope Patrick Collins will go back to basic.

No, I don't get pissed off. Actually, me and Patrick went through the list of your complaints and...we had to agree to most of them.
All I can tell you is what I have done to change things :

1) Directors: the focus is on talent, experience, reliability, and consistency. We just finalized the signing of two major award-winning directors under exclusive contract...but I can't tell who they are, you'll have to wait for the press releases. The latest trend in the industry is to go for the "Shock Value"? Well...I have something REALLY shocking now: directors that actually know how to do their job.

2) Box Covers: a new graphic artist, a brand new logo. Again, more quality.

3) Editing: completely replaced the editing department. Our movies will now be handled by a multi-award-winning post production facility.

4) Cameras: replaced all our cameras with cutting-edge equipment.

5) DVD: after trying several different companies, we finally found one that delivers top-quality authoring, encoding and replication. Plus, more extras.

6) The burning question: is Elegant Angel going soft? If by soft you mean lame, then the answer is no. We will have more features, but they'll still have all the elements of filth, depravity and perversion that Elegant Angel became famous for.

Needless to say, we always appreciate your input. Criticism is always constructive, but remember: changes take time.
Everybody at Elegant is working hard to deliver, and we will.

I am very impressed by the professionalism and thoroughness of your reply to this thread. Like many others, I too have noticed the decline in quality at Elegant Angel over the last few years. Like one of the previous posters mentioned, I also more or less quit watching Elegant when Tom Byron left. I hope that these changes you have made improve your product and bring Elegant back in the game.

I wonder if I might ask Mr Braun a question. Has the huge success (critical if not financial) of "Fashionistas" influenced the changes you are making at Elegant Angel? I mean, in addition to your own success with "Big Bottom Sadie" earlier. I had an inkling even when "Fashionistas" was in production that it would eventually reorient porn to feature filmmaking, and if what I suspect is true you would be the first major indication of that.

I am anxious to learn who these two new directors are.

Perhaps I am reading this question wrong, but if I am not, Fashionistas was under Evil Angel.

If I did, infact read this qustion wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, and I apologize.

Mitzi is good with getting the press releases out for Elegant Angel, so as soon as she gets it done, you will know who those two new directors are.

Apology unnecessary, BIGmike. Sorry to have been confusing. I guess I assume "Fashionistas" is as famous to others as it is in my own mind. But it occurs to me that my post may sound presumptuous in another respect. I learned of this movie in an interview Stagliano gave to Rog (as I recall) and voiced my prediction about it in RAME (I am the David there who signs in as davidxxxsfb_pl@yahoo.com). I have no inside knowledge of the porn industry, nor any expertise on the subject. I am master of my own perceptions, however, and a long-time lover of this art.

Hey, how's it going,

I say there I too was impressed with the level of professionalism displayed in Axel's response to my comments. And I followed the link to the other thread about the fans who were invited to visit with Elegant and give input. After all of that, I believe that Elegant really is doing everything they can to improve. Like someone said earlier, with the upheaval in porn some companies will be permanently left behind. I really would rather see somebody else get pushed out than Elegant Angel simply because Elegant has been around so long.

So, here is the good I have seen so far:

The boxes are awesome now. There are arguments to be made for featuring only one girl prominently on the cover as opposed to showing each girl, but I think the former is working very well. The box for "Filthy First Timers 33" was the only reason I rented the tape considering the cast is full of unknowns. The box for "Heavy Handfulls 2" was awesome as well. That's a good first step.

Signing Ann Marie was a great step. However, putting her into a Sodomania tape and letting her dodge the anal was not. If she doesn't do anal, that is fine and respectable enough considering the vast pressure I'm sure she is under to do so. However, don't intentionally decieve your audience by putting her in an anally themed tape where the other girl in the scene with her does the anal.

Mason was great simply for all the attention she brought your way.

"Big Bottom Sadie" was pretty damn good. I especially liked the kinky scene with Michele Raven getting stooped by two different guys through bathroom stalls.

The new "Squirting Adv. of Dr. G" line is a nice idea. If you actually employ girls that actually squirt then keep it up. However, don't pull a "Rainwoman" and fake the damn squirting.

Here's the potentially good/bad thing:

Bringing in Tom Zupko was...a risky step. I remember when Lizzy Borden was releasing "Cocktails 2" and "Forced Entry" and Extreme was so proud of those. Well, I am of the mind that the only value in product like that is the inherent "shock value". But, you know what? The shock goes away eventually to reveal what crap the actual product is and sometimes you shock the wrong people. Zupko's work definitely had that shock value to it. While I don't like watching Luciano throw fake brain matter all over Taylor St. Claire's body or agree with Kendra Jade shoving pages of the Bible up her ass in "Ass Clowns," Zupko's stuff definitely had thought and devotion behind it. The man seems to completely engross himself in his work and it shows in the product, which is not something I could say about the aforementioned Extreme flicks (Do not take that as a gratuitous Rob Black slam because it is not meant to be.) So, I am sure that "Flesh Circus" will be great. But, keep that bastard in check. Don't go practicing free speech simply because you can. On a sidenote, I checked out his "Zupko's Lost Tapes" which contained a scene in which he confronts former mentor John Stagliano and basically treats him like a piece of shit. Zupko is who he is, but don't start revolting and placing yourself in the position of rebel in an industry full of rebels just so you can be the cool outsider. However, I know those two had some drama of sorts so maybe I didn't fully understand what I was seeing.

Here's the bad things:

Losing Ann Marie. What the hell is she doing at Metro? I mean seriously. What the hell is she doing at Metro? Great pick-up for them, but potentially bad move for her. Good luck to her though.

Losing Mason. Again, I have yet to see any of her stuff but the fact that I know who she is and who she worked for says a lot about her impact for whoever she is with (Platinum, right?)

Those films with the great covers still aren't that great. But I am sure that will come with time.

Any suggestions:

Keep on trying to improve. And, if you knew anything abot me you would know this was coming, hire Taylor St. Claire whenever you can. Talk her out of semi-retirement if you have to. Also, I noticed that Zupko managed to get Scotti Andrews for "Flesh Circus." That woman is ridiculously hot with a liking for anal and big, natural breasts. She did a lot of stuff for Anabolic/Diabolic that was pretty hot. If she is indeed back for good then hire her for more projects. She'd be an improvement on the cheaper, yet less enthusiastic Eurogirls.

PS..I am VERY new here, but I would imagine that Zupko is probably a potentially volatile topic of conversation so remember pretty much everything I said about him is simply my opinion.

Well, I remember having heated discussions with Rog on RAME after he reviewed Anal Ball. Ages ago it seems. You see; Thomas Zupko is not for everybody, I mean I like shock-porn and that's why I love Zupko but from what I understand Elegant Angel are trying to tame Zupko and this is a bad move because they're taking away his artistic talents and I'm afraid we might see this in Flesh Circus.

I wish Zupko would find a company where they would give him the freedom to shoot whatever he wants how he wants without being afraid of being politically incorrect.

It sounds like you are still shell shocked about what caused the falling out between you and TStC.

Zupko is not really a big deal around here. Others don't seem to hate him as much as you do.

Hey, how's it going,

"Well, I remember having heated discussions with Rog on RAME after he reviewed Anal Ball. Ages ago it seems."

I've actually talked to Rog a couple of times about Zupko and I pretty much agreed with him. Unlike Rog though, I do think that shock porn has its place in the industry though I myself am not a fan of it.

"It sounds like you are still shell shocked about what caused the falling out between you and TStC."

That is very true. She once told me that I didn't think before I talked. Well, I probably over think everything after what happened between the two of us. I won't go into the details because it is a long story that I am sure you don't want to hear, but you hit the nail right on the head there.

"Others don't seem to hate him as much as you do."

I don't hate Zupko. Well, I am not too fond of him considering something I was once told about him, but I can't deny his talent. I was trying to actually point out that he is quite good at what he does and it shows in his work. And stripped of all the distracting sensationalism, his sex scenes are all blistering hot. Simply put, he is a major land for Elegant Angel unless he starts getting out of hand which is a possibility. I remember reading Extreme's press releases where they were all proud of how controversial they were and actually inviting the government to get involved. Now, it has happened and they are doing their damnest to make themselves out to be the sympathetic character. There is just something about rebelling simply for the sake of rebelling that bothers me. I sense that Zupko has that characteristic to him.

But...this is not supposed to be an idictment of Extreme or Zupko. I fear I am getting horribly off topic and am probably no longer providing Axel with anything he can use to improve his product which was the original point. Sorry.

I basically know the story. I used to love your fan site and was very disappointed when you had to shut it down. However, I felt that when you got mad about the type of work that Taylor was doing, you were heading down the same path of doom that you predecessor did when she got pissed when Taylor began doing B/G work. (at that's the impression I got about your predecessor, I didn't find your site until you took it over).
I was probably just making some assumptions here, given his association with the projects that caused you your problems with Taylor.

I get the feeling that EA is on the way back up. From some recent behind the scenes dealings with the media to Axels' posts on here, I am of a strong opinion that we're about to see a whole new wave of stuff from EA>

Should be fun to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Elegant Angel seems to be more on the redneck side of porn, and it actually seems like that is what they are going for. I havent seen anything from elegant angel that was as good as anything from the other angel, Evil.

I completely agree, although I believe that that largely has to do with presentation more than anything else. Elegant is simply not as technically proficient, or attentive in the production and post production elements as some of the other prominant studios. In Elegant's defense, however, they do have a fabulous philosophy that inspires a dynamic on the set that few other studios can duplicate to as great a degree. They want the performers to enjoy themselves. This certainly isn't a unique philosophy, but the strength of Elegant Angel is that (especially in Patrick Collins' work) their behind the scenes footage is often times even better than the footage in the movie, only because it's an extension of the environment created on the set--fun, relaxed, and without undue pressures (Big Bottom Sadie V2.0 is a FABULOUS example of this). In terms of the final product, this can be good and bad, but it's a niche that Elegant Angel has, and they should be proud of it. I just wish they could clean up their production while still maintaining that vibe. This is a tall order, as the two can often times conflict. Elegant Angel has stood still on this front over the years while other studios have progressed, but that is what, I believe, will launch them back into prominance.

I'd love to see another feature from Patrick Collins. He really is the spirit behind this studio, and when he's on, he's really on.

That's my fan's perspective impression... for better or worse. :)

Yeah, I feel like they were cutting-edge back in the early Sodomania days, but that other companies have left them way behind on most fronts. Byron's "Cumback Pussy" series was genius, but the last thing that really kept me interested until Mason got on board (and it took me a while to catch onto her). "Big Bottom Sadie V.2" was a great way to signal renewed energy for the fans, though. I'd like to see more of that. And WAY better production values. The movies always look sorta cheap somehow, esp. compared to Evil Angel which seems to be the industry leader in all regards. I'll tell ya this, every time I buy a DVD that isn't from Evil or RLD or (sometimes Anabolic), I'm disappointed on some level. With PXP in the mix, I may be adding another company to the "sure-thing" list. I'd like to count Elegant in as well, and if there's more like "Sadie" or "Slave Dolls," I'm definitely going to vote with my wallet!

Axel, I do like the changes you and Patrick have made to improve your product. I will be watching more Elegant Angel DVD's to see the improvement in the works. Thanks for keeping a level head and trying to cater to the fans as well.

I disagree with Bill on the topic of Zupko. There was a thread regarding Amee Donavan started by Rog which I stated my views on the subject of Zupko. I agree with TSC on the fact that Zupko is a hotly debated topic with the fans. I agree with Ramsey on many things in porn, but Zupko is not one of them. I think he does need some toning down so that he will sell more DVD's. After the shock is gone, will people still watch the movie? I am not a fan of much that Zupko has done in the past, and I don't believe many of the things he says. However, I am willing to give him a second shot to enjoy his product. I just want him to do away with the circus stunts which ruin the flow of the scenes (ie. Ass Clowns, Abyss, etc.) This is merely my opinion.

Sorry if the second part is off-topic. I was simply responding to the statement that Zupko is not really a big deal around here.

I quit watching Extreme because I got weary of Rob Black's schtck, so I probably would not have cared for Zupko's stuff, either. I was a huge fan of the Gene Ross website, though ... go figure! If it's all about that crazy theatrical stuff with the costumes and cheap special effects and dwarves spewing purple goo and dudes in zombie outfits .... Please! That shit is so '80s, so Dark Bros. (good then, pointless now). Just give me beautiful sexy women having real orgasms, sloppy blow jobs, vigorous sex (I don't care which or how many holes are filled), hot outfits, lots of tease, some dirty banter, a little kink, a little rough, guys who don't look like felons and have some personality beyond their big 10-inch, first-rate lighting, camera and editing, a little humor, zero cheeseball dialogue, and a nice balance between hardcore diva pros and vulnerable nubile newbies ... and, you got a great skinflick.

Just to clarify, I think shock-smut has a place in porn. I think there is a place in porn for everything this side of kids and animals. So long as people consent, I say let them do it. I don't have to like it, I don't have to watch it and it doesn't have to turn me on, but anything that sells has a place in porn.

As I told a certain porn director recently though...N'Sync sell a LOT of CDs, but that doesn't mean I can't point out that they suck :-)

Hey, how's it going,

"As I told a certain porn director recently though...N'Sync sell a LOT of CDs, but that doesn't mean I can't point out that they suck :-)"

I had a feeling you might pop up in here Rog. Sorry if I misrepresented you. And I liked your point about N'Sync...God I hate them. But that is a different issue.

Yeah, I'm back now so I just have to catch up on all the threads. You didn't really misrepresent me, I was just clarifying. My reviews tend to be 'enthusiastic' in both the pro and con veins so I need to separate the real feelings on freedom from the "smack" every once in a while.

That N'Sync thing is a story I've been meaning to write. Does popular equal good? If the point is to sell a lot of CDs, DVDs, whatever, then perhaps. But if (collective) we don't like it.....hmmmmm another talk for another time.

Thanks...

I agree, you probably are the only one. (But maybe you were right when you wrote that...)

graham if you read this thread, i want to tell you i have loved the elegant angel movies over the years. and i still think its one of the best. the problem is that you are not doing enough movies of some of your best selling series. like buttwoman and slave dolls. i want to see the buttwoman series re-started, and see a different porn girl be her each time.see if you can get former vivid girl dasha, to be a buttwoman. or see if you can get kendra jade out of retirement to do a lesbian buttwoman movie. all the scenes could have rough sex fetish in them. and there should have already been 2 or 3 more slave dolls movies by now. elegant angel does not need to change who they are, all you need to do graham, is take your best movies, and keep the series going.i want to see melissa lauren in a slave dolls scene where she is a dom, and dominates cytherea. i think these are some of the things elegant angel fans want to see.

Hey, how's it going,

Holy shit! You revived this old thread? You can tell how old it is by my first sentence in the first post of the thread: "I know that Axel Braun from Elegant posts on here so I hope he doesn't get pissed at this, but..." If I remember correctly, this was actually my first or second thread ever. Hell, back when I started this I was still hoping for Taylor St. Claire to do boy/girl again. Hmm. Some things never change.

Anyway, my opinion has definitely changed. I have been really impressed with Elegant Angel's turnaround over the past year or so. Now, they have Tianna Lynn on in a rather peculiar position (she seems to wear several hats for them, as peformer, behind the scenes employee, and all around intern on her way to directing someday) and Zupko continues delivering good stuff, if not as quickly as a selfish fan such as myself would like. However, I am real picky with what I'll rent and as chancewould have it I haven't really seen a lot of casts from them that I just couldn't miss. As result, I can offer no opinion on the current work of Patrick Collins, Zak Wylde, or William H. because I haven't seen anything from them in a while. William H.'s "Glazed and Confused 4" was unique enough that I remember it though. I do enjoy Elegant's current boxcovers as well as the general feel I get from their films. I did notice on Kinzie Kenner's official site that she already has a boxcover up of an upcoming POV release from EA with her on the cover. Looking forward to that.

A new Buttwoman film you say? Whatever happened to Lauren Phoenix as the new Buttwoman? I think this girl qualifies as the new Buttwoman on the internet. But it is a good suggestion. Maybe Elegant Angel is moving away from that, what with trying to establish Cytherea as Squirtwoman and Tianna as their in-house performer.

As an alternative you can also guess the age of the thread considering I got a haircut at least twice in the meantime.
Or you can take a look at the date the thread was posted though this is a bit far-fetched. Just kidding.

I think it's fun reviving old threads and showing how times can change. Maybe that change had something to do with ADT? That would be good news... the future of porn is in OUR hands.

My request for the future: What about... a squirting movie with Flower 2G in every scene?
