While flipping through channels I noticed that Showtime has a new Vivid series called Deeper Throat, which is about the making of a remake of Deep Throat. For anyone that's in the know how real or staged is this series?

There's a tiny bit of info in this thread about the movie itself and the lawsuit involved.
My guess would be that it's about as "real" as the other Vivid reality series Porno Valley and Debbie Does Dallas...Again. In other words, kinda real but not really all that real at all. About as real as most reality shows.
Likely it will be comprised of mostly staged recreations of real incidents 'modified' for maximum entertainment value. For example, the first episode (which aired last night) was about Steve Hirsch going to the copyright owners of Deep Throat to get permission for a remake. This of course had to happen at some point, but it's more likely that Vivid's lawyers talked to their lawyers about it, rather than Steve himself.

I'll watch it for the sole reason of seeing Sasha Grey in HD. That's always worth my time.

Well, I watched the first episode, and it's every bit as painful and bogus as I expected. Steve Hirsch's voice makes me cringe. Every time. I had just about decided I was not going to continue watching the series... and then we get that shot of Hanna Hilton finishing her b/g scene and walking past the camera, with her tig ol' bitties swaying in the wind. Good Lord, those things are lovely.
Guess I'll stick around for another episode. God bless Showtime HD.

Truly the highlight of the episode, closely followed by the montage of starlets deepthroating dildos at the start of the show.

I'm too busy waiting for the last episode to see if they do any "after the movie shoot" lines like they did with the Debbie series showing Hanna Hilton and Jack Venice going "And her boyfriend was sent to prison for rape charges."
Course I watch Steve Hirsch and his wife and I'm thinking "Does Ginger Lynn's son call her stepmommy?"
Suffice it to say, the show screamed more fake reality than Debbie did.

I'm in this film and Showtime was doing the bts.
It was to my understanding that nothing was contrived and can state for a fact that for the entire time that I was on set that nothing was staged.
On a side note, Evan Stone may be one of the most unpretentious and funniest guys I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. Great guy!

We're not talking about the scenes that occur on the sets. What's fake and set up are the meetings and conversations off the set. For example, you can't have reverse angles and over the shoulder shots in Hirsch's office without showing a single cameraman. Even more contrived is the meeting in a strip club where all of the principles have been mic'd beforehand. I'm not claiming that the whole show is scripted. But when you prep people for a meeting and control where they sit and which way they face, you consequently lose a significant chunk of "reality".

Definite improvement with Episode 2. Sarah Vandella cracked my shit up. "I like to suck and fuck. I'm not an actress!" I hope that scene was real.
Sasha Grey with minimal make up was bee-yoo-tee-ful. Such a cutie.
So you can't even show dildos getting sucked on pay cable? What a rip. I really wanted to see Sunny Lane and Katja Kassin attack that double-dong. And was that Alexis Texas?

I could be wrong but based on the cast info above this thread it seems that this is the first Vivid feature (at least in recent years) where none of the main female characters and/or any female characters are going to be played by Vivid Contract girls.

I always said the less make up Sasha Grey has on the better she looks. I hate it when directors put a lot of make-up on her like Suze Randall for example. When you have a natural beauty like Sasha, you go with it, not ruin her with make-up she obviously doesn't need.

I'm really enjoying the show. Though I don't believe any of the set ups: PT going to SH's
house with the script; SH in bed with his wife reading the script and arguing with her--seems all contrived just to show conflict. Steve, you have to admit, is a bit of a character. He must be getting a kick out of watching himself. Ultimately the series exist
to promote both the Throat DVD and the Miss USA DVD. The Production date on the series states April 2008, so the timing of the airing and the release of the DVDs makes sense.
I wonder if Stefani Morgan ever thought Showtime would still be running Debbie Does Dallas again, years after she left the business. It's one thing to have all of her Vivid videos out there, but Showtime is much more in your face and higher profile.

I enjoy the show. Yeah, it feels fake but as a porn fan I enjoy seeing something different produced from the industry than just another hardcore DVD. I dig that behind the scenes vibe... even though it's contrived.

If that cast list is complete, than it looks like Meggan Malone is the only Vivid girl of the bunch. How often does that happen?

^Actually it's Megan Monroe who's in it, and not Meggan Mallone, so that means there aren't any Vivid girls in it at all.

^ Oh.
Now I'm really curious to see how the Showtime series will play out. Will it keep including bits about other, completely unrelated movie shoots in order to keep the Vivid girls on-screen?

Does anyone know if the talent gets paid a separate rate to be naked on Showtime?

They lost me this episode with the whole "PT's at my house? In 20 years I've worked with him not only has he never been here, I never told him where I live."
Then not only does he not say anything to PT bout that, he then leaves him in the house with his wife while he's got that "haven't slept in a month/on who knows how many drugs" look on his face.
Ridiculous.
If I dind't know any better, I'd swear PT's hoping for a JC Superstar revival somewhere.

Ok, it's been a month and nobody's commented on this thread. Regarding the last two episodes:
1) Did anybody notice AVN's Mark Kerns taking pictures of the girls while Steve Hirsch and that punk kid from Arrow were going at it? Why was Mark there? Why was he giggling like a school boy?
2) With so much free porn on the tube sites, was there anything in this reality show that would make you run out and buy this movie?
3) Steve takes off his shirt, steve puts on his shirt. Steve takes a lear jet to Vegas,
Steve wants to know where he can change his shirt while at the Arrow family's home.
4) Steve takes his wife to dinner to give her the Tony Montana line: "What do you do all day? You got nothing to do with your life man. All you do is wait around waiting for me to come home and fuck you. I can't even have kids by you, your womb is so polluted." Ok, he didn't say that, but it had that vibe.
5) Steve and wife go to family shrink. He pretty much says my wife walks around like a tramp. Talk about overstating the obvious.
6) Steve at the wrap party. "You guys are great. You made a great movie. Good job everyone." Yet this contradicts what we have seen unfold throughout the series.
Comments anyone?

The show made Ray Pistol and Arrow Productions look like the biggest tools in the world. And their "VP of Production" or whatever his title is is just the douchiest character I've seen. Real or otherwise. How they're now expected to ever be taken seriously I have no idea. And they'll never get their own Deep Throat movie out. (Bonus ewwww points for bringing out Nick Manning. Showtime was wise enough not to have us hear "DROPPIN LOADS!")
Surprised Sasha Grey commented earlier about the production of the show or at least how she thought at the time she might be portrayed. She got a great edit.
PT as usual has moments of sanity and insanity and you just wonder which half is real.
Often wondered what good having the other Vivid Girls on the show was? Probably filling contractual obligations. They served no purpose this time around.
Surprised how much of his personal life Hirsch allowed. (Least as much reality as he allowed) Interesting to see how the family unit works around the industry. Like when Seymore and his family did so in Family Business.
