The vibration shudder went completely away. This has happend on three or four brand new disks. Some sort of manufacturing chemical residue, perhaps?
I have had some mainstream rented movies which lock up on my DVD (Apex 600A). I think my DVD player may be a bit more prone to that than some (but much less than some others). This is rare, only happened maybe twice. I got around the stop by chapter forwarding, and fast reversing to a time just past the stop. Since it was a rental from Netflix, it wasn't worth doing anything about, I didn't think.
(My Apex player uses a computer type fast DVD drive mechanism. It also allows playing any region, translates PAL to NTSC (so I can play any DVD made anywhere in the world for any market no sweat), and completely defeats macrovision copy protection. I can tape all or some of any DVD if I want to. It was the buzz of geekdom when it first came out last January, and after a couple of months Hollywood forced this Chinese mainland renegade company to do a firmware change on their models coming to the US. It was a bargain also!)
