What are some studios that closed or made into new studios in the past 5 or so years?

These are dead sites: Diabolic, Anabolic, Platinum X and Redlight District.
I consider these sites to be dead or dying: JM Production, Combat Zone, New Sensation and Digital Sin.

New Sensations and Digital Sin may not be as good as they were before the recession, but they still put out some damn good stuff IMO. I like Eddie Powell's stuff and Mike Adriano/Laszlo H.'s stuff as well. However, that seems to be their only two steady directors. Just recently, So Young So Sexy POV 5 from Adriano/Laszlo H. came out and the scenes with Riley Reid and Avril Hall were awesome, and the other 2 scenes were good as well. Eddie Powell just released Dirty Little Schoolgirl Stories 3 with 4 sexy young girls (Megan Piper and Tracey Sweet's scenes I loved, Hope and Karina White's were also very good) and he has The Innocence of Youth w/ Chastity Lynn and Riley Reid coming soon as well.
Combat Zone is still going but their stuff is mediocre at best. Filly Films (an all-girl company) is associated with Combat Zone and they have some pretty good lesbian movies.
Adam and Eve and Vivid don't put out as many movies like they used to but they're still afloat (then again most companies don't cuz of the recession).
Tom Byron Pictures has faded as well recently.
It's a shame cuz Diabolic, Anabolic, RLD, and Platinum X had amazing stuff in the beginning and middle of the last decade.

I thought Combat Zone has scenes with the best chemistry between the performers, at least the performers seem to enjoy their scenes. I had no idea Combat Zone was on the ropes.
New Sensations, Adam & Eve, Vivid and Digital Scene I will not view their products any longer. Nothing wrong with the girls they recruit but the sex scenes are frankly awful, passionless and lethargic. I would bet if I lost interest in their products, that I am not the only one.

I don't think they're necessarily on the ropes, he probably meant that they're dead or dying cuz he doesn't particularly like them. I commented that Combat Zone was still up and running, but that I thought their stuff was mediocre. Clearly, we disagree cuz you seem to like Combat Zone while I like New Sensations/Digital Sin (not everything, but Eddie Powell's and Mike Adriano/Laszlo H.'s stuff). But that's all good. Just wanted to clarify that they're not necessarily on the ropes.

I am sorry to see Tom Byron closed his production company. He seemed like a half-way decent guy who got fucked over too many times (the worst being when Traci Lords/Kristie Nussman lied to him about her name, age and almost everything else while dating him causing Tom to be charged with statutory rape when he thought he was fucking a 22 year old).

He didn't close his production company. What I meant was that the company hasn't been putting out as many movies lately. Seasoned Players, Unseasoned Players, and House of Ass have been MIA lately for example.

The reason why I put those studios in the dead or dying is because the content may be great but a lot of it is leased content from European websites or repackaging of their older content.
Combat Zone is now dead to me because they went ahead and released Teen Babysitters 3 where they photoshopped Riley Reid on the back cover to appear as though she did anal in that movie. It's one thing to imply that a performer does anal but to actually show a picture of the performer with a dick in her ass and she doesn't is beyond lying.

Said to see the demise of Diabolic/Anabolic and Redlight.
Combat Zone seems to have new releases? New Sensation an Digital Sin seem to be mostly into issuing comps with those goddam 40 minute long Lisa Ann Anti-Piracy ads you can't fastforward through, so I wouldn't be surprised if such contempt is costing them sales. It surely has for me and my buying. As much as I spend on legitimate porn, it makes me furious to have those whiny things shoved down my throat. It's not the two minute whine, it's the concept of treating paying customers as children who need to be lectured to by an industry that thrived on ripping off it's consumer base for decades. Ye reap what ye sow.

So no more Gang Bang Auditions? I haven't been this upset since Tower Records went out of business. Waah.

Hilarious!!! Good catch on that one. I recently viewed this title and went back to see the box cover and sure enough you are right. They not only show a photo of a dick in her ass but put text onto the images of her begging for it up her ass. Got to laugh at that one. I'm not interested in anal sex so it never caught my eye.

You're preaching to the choir. I've said that directly to Mike Quazer from ZT several times when he'd post on here about people "ripping off his hard work!"

Difference being that some of us have always strived to listen to the consumer and give them what they want but you steal our stuff anyways so what fucking difference does it make. You reap what you sew. No more good porn, good movies or good music. Your future is tube sites and Nickelback. Have fun.

It's a pretty shitty situation that porn finds itself in these days, on multiple fronts.

Not buying your arguement Mike. Tube sites have not been effecting the porn industry for that long, maybe 5 years. While there are exceptions to every rule; overall, the porn industry has been putting it to the consumer for a lot longer than that with the type of editing crap that was mentioned a few posts up. You say it yourself with your line "what fucking difference does it make. You reap what you sew." That goes both ways. Noone in the industry ever complained about the consumer getting ripped off for years, and now the roosters are coming home to roost.
As far as listening to the consumer and giving them what they want, HA! KLK was a ZT contract girl for a year and fans wanted, desired, and begged for something more than the straight white guy M/F scenes that ZT doled out once a month. Then and only then when her contract was up does 3RD Degree put out the god awful All About KLK, which included a very quick anal and I/R scene.
While I don't watch too much EA stuff, they seem to actually listen to the fans and deliver the goods and at the same time they are never on this site whining about tube sites and piracy.

The scenes were 24 and 27 minutes respectively. I don't think that's "short". And I did what Kagney was comfortable doing at the time. But you seem to know everything, and if you you don't think piracy has affected Evil Angel, you really should ask anyone who directs there. Sorry about my whining.
Actually, i was trying to be polite but you're a fucking troll so die quickly of cancer. Thank you.

I can't speak to the KLK movie but I know that Evil Angel has had their movies on the piracy sites just like everyone else. They may be having more success at policing the tubes and sending DMCA notices as of late but I would bet they have lost sales due to piracy. They may not be putting out anti-piracy PSAs or be very vocal about the issue but part of the reason may be that until last July the owner/CEO of Evil Angel John Stagliano was made the victim of a cruel US government witchhunt perpetrated by the Federal Bureau of Assholes (think the KGB) and the US (non) Justice Department (otherwise known as the US version of the Stasi). If my government was going to take my life from me (in John's case facing what was essentially the death penalty as HIV patients don't get the expensive medication needed to keep them alive in the federal prison system) I would be concentrating on that rather than piracy!

Are you sure you don't need some vinegar and water? And I actually wasn't refering to Evil Angel, I was refering to Elegant Angel as they've put out several very high profile KLK scenes immediately after she left ZT and they were and continue to be exactly what fans want. DV, DP, multi guy I/R etc etc. I was also refering to the amount of actual anal in the scene she shot for you. I just find it amusing that you claim that was all she was comfortable with and immediately after she leaves your company she turns it up to 11. I also find it amusing that I more or less hit the nail on the head when I mention the type of product that you put out and your attitude about going through the motions when putting out product and you call me a troll.

Adam and Eve always made the majority of their money by selling sex toys in the mail, I assume that's where they still make most of their money.

^^ Agreed. Adam & Eve isn't a full-time film production studio. They are a sex toy retailer that also happens to make some adult movies from time to time.
