So as I've said I work in adult novelty retail and I loe my job.
Retail has always been something I'm good at and it's always been a fall back for my "real" job, dental assisting.
Lately I've had a lot of customers ask about the lidocaine and benzocaine found in Anal Ease, Anal lubes and desensitizers for men.
I figured I'd give you guys the run down in case anyone needed the info.
Most products sold for the purposes mentioned above conatain over the counter amounts of either lidocaine or benzocaine.
Most people are familiar with both. You go to the dentist for work. He (or me) dabs on some topical (benzocaine)that makes your gums numb before he pulls out that needle (lidocaine) that everyone says is so huge but it's really not (20 or 30 gauge) and anesthetizes the teeth that need the work.
The customary block for dental (unless for some reason the dentist needs to use different med) is normally 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 Epinephine.
The lido blocks the nerve and the epi reduces bleeding. If the dentist accidently hits a blood vessel and the meds go into the blood the person feels a little rush to the head, followed by shaking hands and feet. This is normal and passes quickly.
The topical is usually benzocaine because it absorbs faster through the mucosa which also happens to be very similar to male and female genital mucosa. Lidocaine is much stronger and penetrates deeper. When you think of benzocain, think Orajel. When you think of lidocain, think prescription pain patch.
Now here is the science part.........
*Smacks the chalkboard with her pointer* (Oh come on now, you know that gave you a hot for teacher visual)
Local anesthetics block the sodium (NA+) channels of the cell membranes. By blocking the ability of the sodium channels to open, or become active, the membrane cannot transmit any action potential, meaning it cannot send sensory messages to the neurons
Each anesthetic has a lipophilic aromatic ring that increases its lipid (fat) solubility. This increased solubility enhances its ability to reach the neurons, thereby increasing the anesthetic effects. In addition, both lidocaine and benzocaine have a terminal amine (an NH at the end). This portion of the structure is important in the anesthetic's ability to transform between a water-soluble form and a lipid-soluble form. For the substance to be injected, as lidocaine often is, or to be in a suspension such as for ear drops (or orajel)like benzocaine often is, it needs to be water-soluble, meaning it can be in solution in water. However, once it enters the body, it must transform into a lipid-soluble form so that it can penetrate the neuron and induce the anesthetic effect.
Used in careful doses, the anesthetic effects of lidocaine and benzocaine are useful for a variety of applications; however, toxicity can occur, especially for lidocaine, because its effects penetrate deeper into the body. If too much is used, neuron signaling can be detrimentally affected, causing the central nervous system to become depressed resulting in convulsive seizures. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning in January 2009 against the use of local anesthetics such as lidocaine in cosmetic purposes. Two women who used a topical anesthetic in conjunction with laser hair removal experienced seizures that led to coma and death.
All that information is available by Googling Lidocain vs Benzocain
Now, when you buy those products for whatever reason you need them you will see either medication and they both work but here's the rub. Because lidocaine is much more potent then benzocaine and broken down in the liver, it's usually in products that are not meant to be consumed. Everhard for example, is 14% It goes on your dick not in your mouth. Anal Eaze or 69 Mints which are edible contain 7% of benzocaine.
Both can cause serious medical problems if not used correctly. Including irregular heartrate, decreased breathing and siezures.
So if you guys use any of this stuff BE CAREFUL!!!!
My customers tell me as far as desensitizers go they work better in spray form. You spray it (a little goes a loooong way) on the head and go about your foreplay. Then by the time it's working you should be good to go. If you spray too much, you will knock out your dude and he wont wake up for hours.
Most women prefer to keep things like desenitizers away from the vajayjay because we WANT to come before our men do and that stuff works on us too. So if you're using a cream or balm type product make sure it's rubbed in well or dry before the approach. Otherwise, it will rub off on your parnter and she will become very unhappy with you. And what do we say boys? If mamma ain't happpy....
The edible stuff? Just be careful with that too. It works well for deep throating and less painful anal sex. But even if you use too much of a benzocaine product you can reduce pain so much that you won't feel when something is really wrong and you can hurt yourself or your partner that way.
There's more to safe sex than just condoms people!
Class dismissed!!

Is a crop a spanking device? Sorry I don't know all the toys if it is. I prefer my hand anyhow. I love smacking a womans ass! With after one hit she'll have my whole hand imprinted on her ass! Yea!

^ A crop is a short type of whip used to train and discipline horses.
It has a long handle and short leather tongue at the end meant for a quick slap to the flanks without the rider losing their balance. They are usually associated with military and discipline role playing. You can get a nice leather one for about $20-30 at your local sex shop. OR you can get them cheaper in nylon if you go to a Tack Shop where saddles and equestrian supplies are sold.
I like them because they make a nice snapping sound when they crack and they're good for pussy spankins but an open palm on a bare bottom works too!

For a man they do it to last longer. The less you feel the less likely you are to blow your wad before she does.
Some women use these products to numb their throat and give better head.
But just because a medication is over the counter (and these are medications) doesn't mean they are always safe for everyone and they should be used as directed.

Cooling gels that contain menthol or some type of mint oil can help men with that. Also you can buy something called liquid V for men. We sell little packets of it and the guys say it works. They make the head more sensitive.

^^^ Wifey and I have had excellent results with Wet Platinum Silicone Ecstasy. Wet uses a hint of peppermint as their coolant. After using Wet Platinum Silicone as our primary lube for a number of years, we made the switch to Ecstasy and are quite happy with the extra sensitivity it provides.

^^^ Are you using a water base lube or silicone? We much prefer the silicone, the higher the grade the better. What adds the extra sensitivity is the peppermint and the other natural ingredients they put in Ecstasy.

I love Wet Synergy. It's a water silicone hybrid. They have one that is cooling and it's awesome! Makes the clit super sensitive and eases the stretch with anal.
Try playing around with different lubes and see if they help. I'd go for ones that "tingle" or "cool". Although some guys do prefer "warming."
Silicone lubes are wonderful. They last a long time and a little goes a long way.
if you're a condom user, try Trojan's Fire & Ice.

I tried the KY warming lube before and I have to say that I didn't care for it at all. As for condoms, never have never will!

Dude, never buy KY. Seriosly it's made for gyno appointments, not sex.
angryassdrummer, like I said, look for Liquid V for men or something that cools.

What is wrong with KY? Vaginal sex needs minimal lube if any at all. If a person is in a long term or safe relationship and gloveless for anal I would suggest butter or an oil based lube like extra virgin olive oil.

And your partner will end up with some really "fun" infections.
I'm assuming you're young and not familiar with older women's sexual health.
Sooooo........
Vaginal sex "should" only need minimal lube. But sometimes things change in our bodies that can cause dryness and dry sex is bad, m'kay? Childbirth, breastfeeding, hysterectomy, hormone changes can make all that happen and when they do you need to find a good lube for your delicate lady parts. Petroleum based lubes can break down toys and condoms. Vegetable and animal fats can cause yeast to grow. They are also an oily mess to clean up.
KY is mostly glycerin and glycerin has the same food energy as sugar. So while it might be okay for the annual pap and pelvic, it doesnt make a good sex lube because it drys out fast, gets sticky and the sugars can also feed yeast in women who are sensitive to yeast and bladder infections.
Find a good water or silicone based lubes. I highly recommend Jo H2O and Wet Synergy.

Thanks for info on Vegetable Fats and Animal Fats. I don't mind cleaning up a mess. I do use silicone based lubes but they just don't taste too good. I am all over edible. Hell, my new fav lube is food grade cocoa butter.

^ That shit is freakin awesome! Not just for sex either! It makes your skin super soft and is great for massage. Even Palmer's brand is good but I bet the food grade would taste better. I use it for lip balm, after I shave my girlie parts, my feet for foot jobs. It can get a little greasey though. But hell yeah as long as it doesn't irritate anyone.

Seriously SexShopGrl? I make this stuff in my kitchen and I got the idea from Lush who uses Shea Butter in their massage bars. Shea Butter isn't edible although I love the scents and feeling the Lush massage bars have to offer. Food Grade Cocoa Butter is way expensive though. I make this stuff in my kitchen and I got the idea from Lush who uses Shea Butter in their massage bars. Shea Butter isn't edible. l blend it with all sorts of food grade products, mostly extracts, but sugar, cinnamon, chocolate malt powder, ground cloves, mint extract. Hell it's all good. I like the texture of sugar for the exfoliating benefits. I would like to go commercial with my product but just don't see people forking out the money for it. If you want some samples let me know and I will be happy to send you some, or anybody else on here. I am meticulous about food grade products and even have food grade wrappers to send them in.

You should think about selling a little of it. You might be able to fund your own creativity that way. You could probably set it up on ebay easy enough.
Another thing you can try is making your own oils. I get essential oils on the cheap from ebay and then add them to a carrier oil like pure mineral oil or saflower oil. They have little or no odor of their own that might clash with your fragrance and are safe if they get in your mouth.
I bet you could do something similar with natural flavors.
I usually get mineral oil becausse I also use a couple tablespoons of it when I make sugar scrubs. My favorite is equal amounts of dark brown and regualar pure cane. You say you like sugar? Try using different types like brown or raw sugar to get different grit textures. You mix them with the oil to keep the sugar from breaking down too fast in the water. Then you add glycerin (which they sell in the pharmacy usually next to the first aid stuff) until the mixture gets kinda pastey. Play with THAT in the shower sometime. And you said, it makes your skin really smooth. I bet you could do something like this with the butter in place of the oil maybe?

Very good suggestions SexShopGrl, I just weighed my favorite size bar and it is only 1.25 ounces and lasts about a month for as often as I use it. I might try the ebay thing but it is way more of a hobby than a moneymaking idea. I would have to sell them by the dozen to make even a mediocre return. The experiments are fun though, some of them are very messy like the chocolate infused ones. I use mostly extracts and have had the best results with them for flavor, spices too.

^ I know what you mean about it being a hobby. I wouldnt want to turn it into "work" either. That's always a bad idea. I've never sold anything on ebay to know what that's like though.
What about candy flavors? They are usually oil based which I imagine would work well considering the fat in the coacoa butter.

The Cocoa Butter I use is food grade so I don't worry about the fat content, when I mix it up with other flavors it is just fun and experimental.
