Known as a Wicked contract performer with five and a half years there under her belt, she picked up AVN's Best Actress - Video award for her work in Wicked's Breathless and was consistently a strong actress in addition to always being a reliable sex performer, adding men to her sexual screen pairings in 2003 in The Devinn Lane Show 5. Lane directed her own gonzo series for Wicked, Road Trixxx, along with a couple of features, but the sway of gonzo ultimately took precedence for beauty, leading her to sign on exclusively as a director for Shane's World last year. She's also founded her own online travel agency - clubfastlane.com. Lane and I went to a cemetery on a sunny Southern California winter day to sit quietly in her SUV and chat about the changes. The quiet, the flowers, the fresh air - all good stuff. AVN: Are you done in front of the camera? DEVINN LANE: I'm 33, this is a young girl's game, I don't want to have to go workout four to five days a week to keep 10 pounds off me. But if something comes up in the future and I feel like being in front of the camera, I'm going be in front of the camera. I'm not going to announce a retirement, simply because I like to leave room open to be flexible and simply do what I want to do. That's where I'm at right now. It's a young girl's game. I ain't exactly young but don't rule me out either, because women in their thirties are hot. AVN: Tell me about some of the best times. DL: The best times at Wicked ... the Cannes Film Festival, yacht hopping in Cannes. With me and Inari, Joy King, Sydney Steele. My very first AVN Awards show. That feeling. The first AVN Awards show you go to you're like, it's so overwhelming and it's so big. You feel really important and accepted. You feel like you've found your place all of a sudden. Winning Best Actress. Very, very important to me. I always said from the beginning, winning sex awards is great and everything, but everybody can do it. Acting, I really wanted to win an award for acting cause I felt like that was something I really had to work at and put an effort into. Fucking is easy for me. Fucking is not easy for a lot of people. It's easy for me. I like it. I'm down with the sex. I like the spontaneity of sex and surprise reactions. I like the reality of it. AVN: Sounds like that's why you'd take the leap to gonzo and Shane's World. DL: And the non-condom policy. That was really a big thing was being able to shoot the kind of stuff I like to shoot without a condom. My stuff really is reality pornography. I like capturing what's real - the stuff that you don't see, the stuff that's not planned, and not staged and wrapping that with gonzo-styled sex. That was a lot of the reason why I chose to leave Wicked and there are no hard feelings between me and the people at Wicked. It's just that I wanted something different than really what Wicked is about. That's OK, and he [Wicked co-founder Steve Orenstein] understood that. I like to shoot this kind of pornography, and because of the market, it kind of requires that I shoot it non-condom and he knew that and I respect that Wicked is a condoms only company. So it just wasn't gonna work anymore and I had to move on. Shane's World is ... it makes sense for me to be there, it really does. It's a win-win situation all the way around. AVN: What will you be directing for Shane's World? DL: I'm bringing back the Slumber Party series. In January, I'm going to be doing Devinn Lane's Guide to Strap On Sex. AVN: With boys and girls getting it? DL: Boys and girls absolutely. It's not just, let's violate some guys with the strap on. I feel really grounded and really centered, and I feel like I've just kind of found my place, not only in the business, just in my personal life too. I really feel like I know who I am and really OK with who I am. Still, she is one of those rare total beauties, and I'm interested in seeing her creative vision. Hopefully she can reinvigorate the Shane's World series, which has been in decline for some time, in my humble opinion. I've never done an anal b/g scene but have done anal g/g scenes(if that counts for you). I love performing but right now it's time for a little break. I've got too many things on my plate and way too many new faces to sift through. Moving to Shane's World is proving to be a better move day after day. I love Wicked but, I wasn't going to grow anymore there. Wicked was really good to me, I left on good terms, there were no hard feelings at all. It was just simply time for me to be able to spread my wings a bit and cater to a different genre. I will miss my Wicked family and will embrace my new SW family 110%. Don't count me out.
