Was anyone else hoping that Belladonna would leap off the couch and show Diane the pleasures of sapphic sex? Now THAT would have been some Prime Time entertainment!

Hey Blacksilver!

She was actually "Crying all the way
to the Bank" to deposit her 4 Grand!

What a country eh? Where else can
a young woman like Bella with little
education or job training make that
kinda $$$ for a day's work?

The quick money always lures them in.

I'm in the wrong business!

Although the tone was somewhat negative (and holier-than-thou) I kept wondering what kind of clout Elegant Angel must have with ABC to get this much free advertising.

About Sawyer, an honest moment that would have made me laugh out loud would have been, if part of her script had included something along the lines of "Myself and my husband personally prefer the films that feature a dildo in the ass and a vibrator in the kitty. But some porn is more extreme..."[resume the deceitful script here].

That kind of honesty would have been appreciated. I mean they tried to act as if they don't watch porn themselves. They even tried to make it seem as if the hotels that carry adult films are to blame, and hardly mentioned that people have chosen this.

It was bizarre from a historical perspective:

Since when do news organizations take a position AGAINST the people? Here they were saying "We can't stop the public from wanting this material, so maybe we can shame the big companies into not letting them have it."

That's quite weird. The free press is supposed to ensure that freedom doesn't fall prey to any aggressor - be it the US government, or be it companies, etc.

They were clearly in a bind, as a news organization that respects the role of the press. On one hand, the ethical position to take is to defend people's freedoms, yet they decided to undermine this by trying to shame companies into not carrying adult fare. On the other hand, there's also an ethical position that workers need to be protected from exploitation by their employers, and on that score, they did well. An 18 year old has no clue if a gang bang is right for her. Though their idea of forcing condom use immediately comes into conflict with freedom again.

Another note about their reporting:

They alluded several times to the irony that Bella Donna grew up in a Mormon family. Yet they seemed terrified to explore that further - to ask if harsh religious practice leads to acting out. Or to ask if Bella Donna's depression is caused by an inability to reconcile the religious oppression (I mean oppression by religion) of her youth with the fredom of being an adult.

ABC News must have been afraid that Utah's affiliates would get up in arms if they called religion into question. But surely it is one of the central themes in this story, and that they skirted the issue is irresponsible.

It would also have been interesting, though perhaps ultimately creepy and sad, if they'd explored how porn stars can become huge (albeit briefly) even when they are, like Bella Donna, unique looking, and not at all the 6-foot-tall blond "hollywood" stereotype of beauty.

This would have likely turned creepy because they'd have said that porn was just looking for energetic, messed-up souls - bodies were secondary.

But it also has a good side - that porn seems to be more open to people. They could even have asked if the changing sense of beauty in hollywood (towards more varieties of people, including geeky folks, etc.) was influenced by porn of the nineties. (I'd skip the eighties because in the eighties all the major porn actresses - the ones with the same last names - were as barbie-cliche as was hollywood).

We've been selling copies of "Buttwoman Iz Bella!" regularly all day long today... if that's indicative of what's going on throughout the industry, Elegant Angel must be very pleased with the exposure this has brought them.

Well,it's a struggle everyday for alot of us,just to make it through the day, with feelings of inadequacy and depression.

Of course I don't like hearing about the directors who trick the girls into doing more than they were initially supposed to.But of course there are some hard people out there who don't take a second to see if their talent is ok,right Vince?

Reminded me of when Inside Edition interviewed Alexandria Quinn. She was all boo-hoo"I just wanted to be a normal kid"for the first interview. Then a few months later she does another interview"when I was younger I dreamed about being this sex goddess and having guys worship me"Well which is it?

I found a bright spot to be Koop talking about pornstars having rights.Of course the big block to that is to organize or unionize would be to legitamize(sorry,a little Jesse Jackson slipped out)it,and politicians wouldn't touch that.

I wish they or someone in the future could not pre-judge the industry, but instead delve deeper into why it exists. As Koop said,it's not going away,it's a billion dollar industry, someone should interview healthy couples who enjoy pornography to get their views of it.

That's the nature of the biz though,I mean we want fantasy. So obviously girls may end up doing things they don't necessarily enjoy.I don't mean being forced to,I just mean stuff like anal,DP,Ed Powers.HA!I mean, the average girl PROBABLY hasn't had alot of double penetration/double anal/loads of cum swallowing experience, these are fantasies put on tape.

They should also interview people with positive views on what they are doing, like Nina Hartley,Dave Cummings, etc.I know those are older folks but they just immediately strike me as people who enjoy what they do and don't appear to be damaged, bitter or mean spirited about what they do.

And yes it was nice to see Mr.Self-Exploitation Gene Simmons at the awards show, looking oh-so thrilled.Gene, take off the shades man, almost as pathetic as that washup Vince Neil on Surreal Life. And would someone please tell Corey Feldman to give up the singing!

The show was positive for me in that middle america was finally able to hear the words "DOUBLE ANAL"on tv.

I watched the ABC program Primetime with Diane Sawyer last night. At first I was irritated. Just another sensationalistic, lopsided attempt to increase ratings by a once reputable news organization. Then it occurred to me that most of us are painfully aware that the era of Walter Cronkite and responsible journalism ended long ago. Ratings not facts are what drive these programs. What's more exciting than sex? Money drives choices as much for ABC as it does for actors in adult and mainstream movies. Their attempt to portray the adult industry as manipulitive and dishonest, only proved that greed and sleaziness are easy to find in any industry including the broadcast industry. And this is the opinion of everyone I've spoken with so far.. Can you imagine ABC doing an "in depth" show on the peace movement during ratings week… or any week at all? The largest “pre-war” peace rally in the history of this country took place recently, coverage was scarce and short lived.

On the other hand, like sex, fear sells! “Countdown to War,” Now that gets ratings!

Since ABC is so interested in increasing their ratings I have a show that I guarantee will increase ratings. It would incorporate everything they used in last nights segment and more. Greed, sex, abuse, alcoholism and drug addiction. They could call it "Youth and Abuse" ( incorporating words like, young or youthful with abuse is a sure-fire way to get people to tune in.) They could stick with factual information. There'd be no need for deceptive editing... hell maybe they could regain some credibility by using factual information. It would be a show that focuses on the connection between organized religion, (particularly fundamentalism,) and self-loathing. Imagine a report that connects hate with self-loathing, and self-loathing with fundamentalism? They can report on the children who are raised to believe that sex is dirty, desire shameful, (and that anyone that believes differently is an outcast,) and the numbers of these children that go on to drugs, alcohol, multiple partners, spousal abuse...gangs etc.. The list could go on ad infinitum. But don't hold your breath. A show that is factual and unbiased is one thing, shareholders and advertisers another. So, if you can't do a show on the detrimental effects of fundamentalism on society, I guess you're back to Porn to increase ratings without ruffling feathers. How convenient.

Another interesting subject might be the “shattered lives” of all those that watch commercials that promise us our lives will be better if we drive the right car, have the right clothes, credit card, drink, food etc. I wonder how many compelling stories they could come up with of people that got all the right stuff and then blew their brains out because it never fixed the pain? More than they'll ever tell us, that's for sure.

This is an industry that capitalizes on the weaknesses of others. Why else would a show like “The Bachelor” be created?

So why should I be surprised at last nights flagrant misrepresentation on the part of Primetime?

Have you ever been able to READ the disclaimers at the bottom of an ad?

I think the unfortunate truth is that all industries manipulate the facts to suit their specific interests. The adult industry is no different in this regard.

ABC sells time. They won't sell it to the adult industry no matter how late the time slot, but they'll use a porn theme to increase ratings during "primetime" to line their pockets. Yes this is hypocritical, and unethical but no more so than a mainstream movie producer that has sex with his star, the boss that has sex with his employee, or the porn producer that offers a girl more money to do something that she’s already told him she doesn’t want to do. So I can't get too upset with Diane Sawyer or ABC because the way I see it we're all part of the same system. The only difference between myself, Diane Sawyer is that when people ask me what I do for a living I tell them the truth.

Where to begin?

Like so many have already pointed out this was a ver heavy handed, one sided, poor excuse for journalism. It was a just another sensationalistic expose and not the probing investigative report that it promised. PBS did a Frontline piece called "American Porn" a while back that was a thousand times better, as flawed as it was.

For me the biggest problem with this interview was how laking in perspective it was. They just showed the very worst elements of the industry, and then proceeded to paint the whole industry with the same brush. I don't doubt for a second that there are same very bad things that happen to good people or that there is a dark underbelly in the porn industry that preys on desperate young girls. However that is not the way the entire porn industry acts. They raise some very valid points about testing in the industry, but fail to look at the issue in a useful way.

I must admit I was moved by Bella's comments. I'm not sure how much they chopped them up, or if they were always being presented in an honest context, but they got to me. I think that it is likely a very common that these performers go through a lot of mental anguish, and doubt about what they are doing. It does sadden me to think about it. I would love to hear how Bella feels about the industry today right now. I am sure there are also performers who love their jobs and the lives they have created for themselves.

So I'm ot sure exactly what my point is I just felt the need to rant a little bit.

So interesting that in the same month you have Gina Lynn as gossip fodder on Entertainment Tonight and Jenna Jammeson making guest appearances on NBC dramas, you have abc trying to paint them in that old seedy colored brush.

So would I, Gold_Member. I started a thread two or three days ago trying to prompt an ADT online chat with Bella, but the thread went nowhere.

I do seem to recall a couple of comments that Tricia made recently about Bella. Tricia said something like "The best decisions that Bella makes are the ones in which she leaves Nacho." They keep getting together and breaking up again. What the status of their relationship is now as of this post, I have no idea.

Tricia also made the comment that Bella decided to only work exclusively with other girls because she had health concerns about continuing to work with guys.

Toward the end of the Primetime special, they mentioned something about a deal falling through that would have enabled Bella to direct her own series. Was that the Sineplex(?) deal?

I sure wish we could get Bella to do an ADT online chat. I think I'm going to bump up that thread and try one more time before giving up on it.

regarding your ?s about Belladonna, she and Nacho are currently together (albeit with several breakups over the past months).
That was the Sineplex deal, which is now going really well for her. I met the owner of Sineplex in Vegas, and he seems really nice.

Great to hear that things are currently going well for Belladonna.

The thing is, Tricia, Diane Sawyer and ABC could have made this important update to the story at the end of that show--but they didn't. They're fucking scum.

Since the other thread is locked - thanks Pontus for the link to the Luke Ford interview with Bella after the primetime show. Interesting to hear that her only regret is that gangbang, and to see the huge discrepancy between her version of the story and Anabolic's version.

I read the article but I didn't catch the interview. Im very dissapointed that Bella is so unhappy and I don't think I will ever enjoy her the same way again. Maybe im naive, but I always look for girls that are actually into the sex. I was very confident that Bella enjoyed much of what she did. I love the interview segment in "straight to the A #1." She talks about how she likes to feel dirty and push her limits. Now I know that that is all BS. I always loved her scenes and now I have no interest in seeing them. I do not feel angry at her at all like some people though. I mostly feel bad for her. I realize that ABC made the story more Juicy through editing tricks that aren't exactly ethical, but there has to be some truth to what Bella was saying. If she is truly unhappy and it looks like she is, she should exit the business and do something else. When she was talking about how she was telling herself that she only has to do something for a little while longer like it was a torturous act I was really sad. I can never watch her scene from Weapons of Ass destruction the same way again. I still like to believe that not all girls in the industry feel the way Bella does. Think about what Ona Zee said to her early in her career. Maybe she is not emotionally stable enough to perform in the business. She did grow up in a morman background. The adult industry has to be very confusing for her. Deep down in her mind she probably feels like what she is doing is terribly wrong, and that has to have a serious effect on her. I wish her well.

Belladonna loves this shit more than any pornstar i've ever met. I believe having her mother in the same room as they were interviewing her was like holding a gun to her head. Did u see the way Diane Sawyer went for blood once she sensed Bella was about to cry? Belladonna is a naturally emotional girl about alot of things. She has constantly gone above the call of duty on many occasions, initiating some of the craziest stuff she has ever done. The story, was defianately told through its editing, they really went out of the way to butcher shit with the editing esp by chopping some sentences the people made, which could have been explained further.

You're welcome, bjs. I think it was RonK who first posted the link to that interview on the ADT forums. The Luke Ford interview made me feel a lot better (but not 100% better) about the Bella/Primetime situation. It put things in perspective and told a more complete and accurate story about Bella Donna (for those who still don't know, I've since learned that this is how Bella herself spells her name).

D-M, your comments regarding Bella are very poignant. I'm not sure by your wording if you've read the interview that bjs referred to. Here's the link in case you or anyone else needs it.

Bella Donna's response to the Primetime show

BTW, in that interview, "Jason" is the guy who used to be known as Luke Ford when he wrote for www.lukeford.com.

Sorry for sliding off-topic for a second: What is "Luke Ford"'s relationship to lukeford.com?

I used to follow it until it became so stupid it was unreadable, though now Wanker Wang seems to have made it more fun than ever. I take it "Luke" has moved on to another frontier?

Skronker, here's the scoop. Years ago, Luke Ford, the person, used to write for www.lukeford.com. The name, Luke Ford, is not his real name. I think his real name is Jason Sechrest. If I remember correctly, he was born and raised in Australia and his father was a Christian minister. Eventually, he migrated to America, gravitated to the porn industry, took on the name Luke Ford, and became a kind of columnist and industry watch dog for the website, www.lukeford.com. He operated it in sort of a stream-of-consciousness style, as you'll recall. He also converted to Judaism.

Luke Ford made himself famous by being the first to break the story that Marc Wallice was HIV positive. Although he was frequently wreckless and sloppy with his facts, in the case of MW, Luke happened to get it right (probably by luck more than shrewd journalism). It was after breaking this big story that Luke Ford began to define himself as the porn equivalent of Matt Drudge.

Anyone who has followed Luke's career closely knows that he is not a friend of the adult industry. By his own admission, Luke has a love/hate relationship with porn, but overwhelmingly hate. For example, he has a very negative view of the adult industry from a moral perspective (strongly informed by his religious views), yet he has often written that he himself is obsessed with porn. Luke is also obsessed with the idea that many (if not most) of the porn studios are financied by organized crime. He even makes a reference to this kind of thing in the interview that he just did with Bella. Yet, to the best of my knowledge, he offers no hard evidence to back this up. Luke has also, by his own admission, leaked information to the mainstream media in an attempt to defame the porn industry (as if it needed defaming).

Backing up a little, Luke Ford sold www.lukeford.com (currently presided over by Wanker Wang, as you've said), stopped going by the name Luke Ford, and now presides over and writes for Setgo.com, which is where the current Bella interview can be found. During the course of his career, he also published a book about porn under the name Luke Ford called A History of X: 100 Years of Sex in Film.

Actually Luke Ford and Jason Sechrest are entirely two different people...

Jason is the freelance publicist for Jill Kelly Productions and Wildlife. He's also the host of the KSEX Radio show The Young and Curious. Nice guy, good publicist.

Luke Ford is... well, Luke Ford. He is the gossip columnist and, well, the rest is both well known and debateable. I'm staying out of that.

But Jason and Luke are NOT the same person. I know this because on two seperate occasions, in November, On Set with Wild Life's "Healing Touch" (see http://www.pornstarempire.com/), and just last Thursday on set with a wall to wall sex video that Bud Lee and JKP were shooting, I've seen Jason and Luke together and in very seperate bodies.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Remi_Charnel, here's where you made your mistake and then you went off on a tangent:
Apparently, I got his last name wrong, but his first name is Jason. If you read the interview he just gave with Bella Donna at Setgo.com, then you'll see that I'm right.
Luke Ford is definitely not his real name. He doesn't go by that name anymore, although people (myself included) usually still refer to him by that name because it is more familiar. You ask just about anybody who is really in the know in the porn industry, and they will confirm this. Hell, if you e-mail Setgo, Jason himself will confirm this. E-mail Wanker Wang at www.lukeford.com and he will confirm what I'm saying.

Although I apparently got his last name wrong (Sechrest), the other information that I provided on him is very accurate. And again, regarding his name, I said I think his name is... What I should have written is that I was pretty certain of the first name Jason (and even here not 100% certain), but not the last name Sechrest. That's where I really went wrong.

Pontus let us hope we don't have to hear that Jessica Darlin really hates the business like Bella. I don't see it happening. Jessica is a very inteligent person that seems to truly love sex. D-M, I've found that if you have gleaned information carefully from the following three sources, then you should be able to separate fact from fiction regarding who Bella really is and what are her true feelings (and motives):

The Primetime Live Interview (the show itself or an actual word-for-word transcript of the show)

The Setgo Interview

Bella's Ex-Agent's Post to Lukeford.com

Analyzing information from those three sources told me everything I needed to know about Bella. Hint: Most people (porners and non-porners alike) are clueless regarding who Bella Donna really is (as was I until I got access to all of the above information). Jules Jordan also provided a subtle hint.

D-M, after you have absorbed the above information, feel free to e-mail me to compare notes.

Off topic (I didn't see the show), but Luke has a different website lukeford.net now, and no longer writes about the porn industry, strictly mainstream. He has outlasted his critics speculation that he would be back in porn within a year. A fascinating guy. People loved him, people hated him, but EVERYONE read him.
I think Wanker is doing a real good job, though. As long as he stays real.

Yeah, I used to follow his original site ... which was fun for a little while, but then it just veered off into complete and utter nonsense and porn-insider backstabbing and it lost me. Whereas Wanker has a more fun personality, and the video clips are hilarious, and the porn insider stuff seems a little more inclusive of the non-industry folks.

Interesting to read comments on the Belladonna show on other forums. There are a lot of people who took the whole thing very seriously. I suspect there are many Americans who just rented a video starring her and are feeling weirdly guilty about it. Ain't that funny?

But after viewing the behind-the-scenes supplements on "The Fashionistas" DVD last night (fuck the Super Bowl, gimme gimme Taylor St. Claire and those glandtastic ta-ta's!), I'd have to say that the rueful Belladonna on ABC and the Belladonna striving to penetrate her ass with an unlubed clear glass (or lucite or whatever) dildo sporting a glans of Jolly Green Giant proportions -- warming up before a scene -- are two different people. And I'd wager that the latter is most accurate.

Belladonna is one gutsy broad. Her scene with Nacho Vidal in Buttwoman Iz Bella single-handedly opened my eyes to the eroticism of rough sex. I felt secure in knowing there was somewhat out there like me. Yet, her unraveling after a relentless assault at the hands of Diane Sawyer caused her to question her beliefs.

I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately to tone my videos down. I’m often called a misogynist. My motives are constantly called into question. I did an interview the other day and it was a mess. I could hardly muster up enough energy to stand any ground. I gave half-assed answers. I admitted that I was seriously considering leaving the business.

I told the interviewer how dismayed I was by the ABC “news” piece. He asked me, “if you are as true to your convictions as you claim, how can you be so easily dissuaded?” I’ve often thought that I was one of the strongest people out there, never to buy into the masses. When one is constantly beaten down with negativity, people constantly second-guessing your motives, at some point your ability to adhere to your beliefs can be shattered. We’re only human.

Julie Night stopped by yesterday, and I couldn’t help but look at her differently. Was she lying to me? Did she really hate everything she was doing as a porn star? Did she push her limits on my set to please me for more work? Or was she just a normal girl, who really liked sex, that possessed enough courage (and sense) to block out all of the bullshit that society loves to hurl at sexually adventurous women?

My spirit has been damaged. The woman I looked toward to sanction my own perverted sexual desires was raped of her sexuality for the entire world to see. She was judged. She was victimized. She was degraded . . . and all by a fellow woman.

I'm sorry Belladonna.

You are still my hero.

Mason,
Please don't give up. Don't lose sight of the Alex Quinns, Michele Ravens and Bisexual Britnis of the world. It saddens me to read that you're thinking of leaving the biz. Remember that Bella did not give you your desires, but merely opened them for you. Your vision exists within you, and it can't be taken from you. Only you can decide to give it up.

Part of the reason you may be so sensitive to the negative attacks against you is *because* you're sensitive. You care about what fans think. This is clear to all of us on this board. You open yourself to the negative in an effort to better serve your fans/customers. But sometimes positive feedback gets buried by the volume of negative. You have to remember to give full credit to things like AVN awards and unit sales. With porn, if a viewer is happy with your work, he is more likely to just buy your next video. As opposed to the person who doesn't like it, who just might fire off an email, then a week later have forgotten all about ever having written you, while you're still wincing from his harsh words.

Stay strong, sister. Because of you, the phrase "teach her a fuckin' lesson" has become a regular part of my daily speech. =)

The enemy of sexually powerful women is shame. The enemy of sexually powerful men is aggression.

This is getting really deep .... as it should. I suppose. I wish we all could sit in a room together in real time and actually talk about everything. Maybe the chat thing tonight? I'll be checking in.

Do you see the similarities, Mason?

Both rough and ready women wrapped up in a soft exterior.

Differences between you and Bella Donna?

You're shy and Bella is bold.

In the case of Bella Donna's "unraveling," I think it was an act closely linked with her obsession to be a "people pleaser." She knew the kind of story ABC wanted. Her personality was to give them precisely what they wanted. Hence, she didn't really "unravel." She gave them what they wanted. Bella can act and she is a people pleaser. Is there some vulnerability in Bella. Of course, I think all of us are vulnerable to some degree. But was Bella a "victim." Not only no, but hell no.

During the Primetime show, Bella Donna presented herself as being "innocent." But was that the reality? I don't think so and here's why.

Bella Donna had her first sexual experience when she was five years old "playing house" with another little girl when she lived in Germany. She lost her virginity at 14 (possibly due to molestation), and started dancing in a strip club in Utah as soon as she turned 18. Also, innocent, meek, and helpless Mormon girls don't find themselves covered with tattoos such as the ones Bella has.

Before long, Bella Donna decided to get into the porn industry (in pursuit of the big bucks, not fame as she claimed on ABC). She entered porn consciously and deliberately. She had already made up her mind to do it before she even arrived in California. In her very first movie, Real Sex Magazine #31, she did anal. According to her ex-agent, Roy Garcia, the anal was her idea (if true, and if her decision wasn't spontaneous during the scene, Bella's motive was probably money--anals pay more). Later in her career, Bella has said that, in time, she developed a strong sexual preference for anal. Further, she has observed that she likes to be choked and slapped just as she's cumming because it induces a stronger orgasm. And the fact that Bella chose as a boyfriend Nacho Vidal, one of the roughest thugs in porn, proves that her love of rough sex is not an act. She loves great big dicks, anal, and rough sex. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive or misinformed.

My stance on rough sex in porn. Caveat: I'm not attempting to sway anyone else's opinion on this sensitive issue. I'm merely stating how I personally feel about it and why. I'm against rough sex in porn because it's too inherently controversial and problematic.

Rough sex can cause too many problems for everyone concerned, including for the adult industry as a whole. By your own admission, Mason, look at the problems it has caused you. Look at the problems it has caused people like Brandon Iron, T.T. Boy, and Max Hardcore. Look at how quickly Anabolic's Rough Sex series was pulled from the market. Look at how much the rough sex aspects of Bella Donna's scenes shown on Primetime were used to make the entire porn industry look mean and abusive to women. And all this does is reminds prosecutors that porn is something that they need to be going after more aggressively (no, not based on the rough sex issue, but on the obscenity issue).

Even when a female porn star freely consents to a rough sex scene and knows exactly what to expect, there have still been cases of women "freaking out" when such scenes are actually being shot. Even if a woman doesn't freak out during her scene, there's always a chance that she'll later realize that she has been scarred or traumatized by such a scene. True, it can sometimes go the other way and a woman might really get off hard on the rough sex, but that's besides the point.

Yes, I have gone on record as saying that I like The Fashionistas. But its appeal to me is its overall excellence, not the rough sex. Ditto for your movie, Internally Yours #3. My primary motivations in purchasing it were to see Judy Star and to see what a Mason movie was like. I wasn't at all put off by the rough sex. I just didn't find it necessary to get off. Yes, some people do find rough sex in porn a turn-on. But to meet the needs of this segment of porn consumers, you're going to have to constantly put up with some of the problems that I mentioned before. Look at what it's done to you so far, Mason.

But Mason, it's not necessarily an either or situation. Your choices don't reduce to either continuing to make rough sex porn or leave the porn industry. You can stay in the porn industry and eliminate the rough sex theme from your future movies (or at least greatly tone it down as has been repeatedly suggested). You could, instead, introduce a strong psycho-sexual dominance theme in your movies, rather than a physical (rough sex) dominance theme. A good "mind-fuck" combined with hardcore sex can really be arousing. That was done a lot during porn's golden age (1970s). It does, however, require a higher level of acting to pull it off.

People-pleasing Bella Donna gave Diane Sawyer and ABC what she thought they wanted. She played the part of victim because that's what she thought they wanted her to do. In contrast, if Diane Sawyer and ABC had wanted to present the porn business in a positive light, then Bella would have played the part of a happy and successful porn star. Bella is a people pleaser. She herself stresses that over and over again. Bella is also an actress.

Bella Donna is one of the most successful people in the world. She is great at what she does. She moves a lot of product and helps a lot of people make a lot of money. I cited in another thread some of Bella's accomplishments. They include the following: a six-figure annual income, her own girl-girl movie line with Sineplex (which probably includes residuals), a pay site currently at the top of the Alexa ratings (as a direct result of that Primetime show--thank you very much), a huge worldwide following, an AVN Best Supporting Actress Award, and a fiance that women all over the world drool over. And I didn't even mention before another tremendous asset of Bella's: her magnetic personality and charisma. Personally, I don't think I would call a woman with all of that going for her a victim.

Many people continue to call Bella Donna stupid, weak, ugly, etc. Yet, Bella Donna, at age 21, has achieved more success in life than virtually all of her critics ever will. This is why I've said that Bella's one of the greatest porn stars there ever was. This sentiment is based on practicality, not merely personal preference.

Mason, if you do decide to stay in porn, I really do think that it would be in your best interest to not conceal your face. While some people see concealing your face as mysterious, others see it as cowardice. Why make it easier for critics to take shots at you by covering up?

Mason,
Your doubts speak as much to your humanity as your convictions do. At the end of the day, it is not the opinion of others that matters, it is your opinion of yourself. If you truly believe in your vision, then to abandon it because somebody cooked up a TV show to perpetuate the 'poor little girl gets sexually abused by filthy men' myth is the worst thing you can do.

Of course women enjoy sex. It's whether or not they let society dictate what their sex lives should be that matters. As the product of a family broken by Victorian sexual attitudes, I say 'you go, girl!'

PS - While I'd love to see what you look like I have to disagree with Pontus. I think the whole 'woman of mystery' thing is great. Screw 'em if they can't take a joke!

Mason,

I think a lot of us here understand what your going through. Fans are going through it just as well as industry insiders are. The ABC report was slanted and tweaked but I still don't discount that it brought up some interesting and worthwhile points. However:

As defensive and impolite as it was, Jim Gunn's post in this thread made some good points as well. Porn as a whole isn't going anywhere, and ultimately it needs to be considered a job for these girls just like any other. Attaching special significance to it, and allowing ourselves to be swayed by the idea that the girls who are being paid a fair wage for a performance are "exploited" any more than I am by doing my job will drive further doubt into the minds of these very performers.

On the other hand, our ENJOYMENT of porn (well, at least for most fans) is inherently based on the idea that what they're doing DOES have special significance--that it is allowing us to see something forbidden, or private. This dichotomy of forbidden excitement versus unbridled enthusiasm is the very thing that attracts us to pornography. It's easy to confuse these two completely separate relationships with porn. In my estimation, I completely understand and accept that the porn star engages in a job, for a fee and that there should not be attached any stigma against what they're doing, or any negative social categorization as "sluts" or "whores" (whatever that means...) for doing it. Because our enjoyment of porn is often based on the idea that sex is an intimate act, and that specialized genres like rough sex are catering to fantasies that can't exist if you merely look at porn as a job; I still think that it's extremely important that producers have some modicum of sensitivity for the performers and what they are doing. Despite what the nay-sayers might preach, these are young girls. And because I care, I want to patronize studios that take the time to treat these girls fairly--not only with a nice paycheck, but with an enjoyable working environment where consentuality is never compromised no matter what kind of sex is being produced. This is important to me because it enhances my enjoyment of their scenes.

Call it guilt culture if you want--and cite it as a bane on the industry, as many do, but I'm tired of being labeled a guilty hypocrite, or a "bad porn fan" for CARING and for actually liking and identifying with these performers. It's offensive, and I don't see what harm there is in it.

To get back to the topic at hand, as Pontus said, the type of stuff you like to shoot will inherently always be surrounded by controversy, and in fact, controversy probably is a necessary ingredient for your type of pornography to really have its full effect. You will always be answering those questions, and always be defending yourself and the girls you shoot as long as you continue to shoot it. To me, one of the most important things about you, Mason, is that YOU care too. Your philosphy, your care for the girls, your belief in the idea of women breaking out of the mold, and ultimately your questioning spirit resulting from this Primetime Live special is PRECISELY why I like what you produce. All my life I've believed very heavily that the process is as important as the product, I completely appreciate your belief in that as well.

Ultimately, of course, you should do what you need to do. It's not easy being a one woman proponent of this sometimes unpopular vision you have. I admit to not always enjoying what you produce, but I never question your integrity in producing it.

This is RIGHT ON. Listen to what Hardware says--he's affirming what you believe!

I told a good friend that I'm worried about the Primetime special for one reason above all others--that it might drive the good people away. The fans that care might tuck tail and hide behind their guilty feelings. The producers who care might leave the business because they are dissillusioned. This is the absolute worst thing that can happen for porn in my mind. More than ever--with a large number of people watching the industry now, we need to express ourselves and be proud of what we like and what we do. You should do what you need to do, but someone like you leaving the business is exactly what this ABC Primetime show should NOT instigate.

Wow, what a thread.

We, as American’s, come from puritans and immigrants that didn't like how they were treated by their homeland, and the religions thumbs they were being forced under. These puritanical beliefs have continued down through the generations, and I believe that this is the underlining problem that this thread is talking about. What we as porn fans need to remember, and work towards spreading, is that this industry does nothing wrong, we also do nothing wrong in patronizing these companies. How many times have you been in a conversation where the topic was how bad the porn industry is, and you just bent to the general consensus to be a part of the group, or so that they didn’t know that you enjoyed the occasional slap and tickle flick. If you read that last thought and say to yourself, “I would never misrepresent myself, I would tell them exactly how I feel about the porn industry,” well good for you!! Most of you however have been in that situation, and bent to the feeling of the group at large. To those of you I say, “You are allowing ABC to make these skewed shows, and helping the public to believe everything ABC feeds them.”

We are all talking about the big mean money grubbing ABC, and how they have misrepresented Belladonna. Maybe they did, but unless you choose to spread the word that there are companies out there that do take care of their performers, that some of these girls are very loyal to the companies that they work for, and even enjoy what they do at work everyday, even better than that, that you are a proud porn consumer, and that you like it hard and nasty (Well, at least I like it hard and nasty), then you really have nothing to say about ABC and what they did or did not do to Belladonna, because you are helping them do it by the way that you live your life, and allowing them to make you feel guilty for what makes you happy.

Having said this, Mason, you are one of the amazing women (Belladonna included) that has helped me make my move away from my puritanical compunctions. Providing me with porn, that was like you opened up my head and video taped what was in there. I understand that you are shy, and that you are not ready to reveal yourself to the consumers, I respect you for all that you do in this industry, I think you are extremely brave to put out the kind of porn that you enjoy. It makes me sad that you are considering leaving the industry, if you do, then who will give me all the good porn? J

Since I have a good rant going, I guess I will just continue on with what I got going on here. J

It is possible to be a good porn consumer, and still care about the performers. Yes the performers do receive a really good paycheck for getting fucked in the ass all day. However what they do is not like sitting in front of a computer all day. I don’t care how much sex these girls have had. Even if you are the most unemotional nymphomaniac, having sex is an emotional act. There is no way for you to have sex with someone, even if you don’t like him or her, and not have an emotional connection with the other person. So worrying about these girls, and their well being is very plausible, almost necessary. I would be concerned about you if you didn’t worry about these girls and whether they are having a good time. If you aren’t the least bit concerned, then you are one of the most callous people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Now for the last of my rant: if you do something that makes you happy, like watching porn, then aren’t you bound to the other people in your lives, to stand up on the tallest soapbox and yell out “Porn makes me happy! What is wrong with that!?!” I try to live my life telling anyone who will listen what makes me happy. I am not ashamed of what I do in my life (mainly having sex and watching porn) so why shouldn’t I talk about my life openly and honestly. I talk about sex, porn, masturbating, at work, in my personal life, at parties. Anything that is concidered taboo and makes me happy, I talk about it openly, and the amazing thing is…. I have had people thank me for being me. How great is that?

OK, I think I am done now. I will be putting on my asbestos body suit and wait patiently for the flaming I am sure is about to commence.

And again, thank you Mason and Belladonna for opening up my sexuality, I hope you aren’t ashamed of helping me along my path of sexuality, because I am not.
