Major differences between retro porn and current: choreography wasn't a thing at least in the scenes I watched, the talent was given the synopsis of the scene and you let them bring it to life in their own way allowing for a fantastic sexual experience in which both parties got to orgasm. Generic porn scenes were not a thing either from what I saw, every feature or scene had its own theme and vibe rather than just mimicking those that came before it. Another difference between old porn and new is the level of appreciation because adult performers and pornstars these days can't keep up with the demand of those whose fetish is always 'the next scene,' doesn't matter if the performer has 100 scenes or 800 scenes. It is never enough, doesn't matter if the performer is battling depression or a family tragedy or if they teased anal and then reconsider; they must perform till they burn out or do something reckless like OD. I feel like old BG scenes didn't involve nearly as much mechanical pounding. I feel realistic scenes were more prized with older porn yet when I watch certain scenes in today's porn, the more normal the sexual encounter - the more boring it is. Real sex is often quieter, far less physical and varied when it comes to positions and types, less visually exciting without that somewhat performative aspect to it. I also feel that body image expectations were very different, you could start off as a teen/babe and grow up with your body changing accordingly with the fans still eating your scenes up. For some reason, that seems less allowed now and I can think of at least two performers whose careers waned as they got older and closer to visible adult female territory.
My theory on this is that up until the early 2000s most of the people getting into porn had not been inundated with adult content and therefore when they entered porn the sex they had on camera was a much closer representation of 'real life' sex. But as the years have gone and then exploding in the 2010s through current times virtually every person entering adult has seen porn online from alarmingly young ages and when they enter the business they are having 'porn sex' much more than 'real life' sex. This means the constant switching positions and checking all the boxes of mandatory positions that almost no person would ever do in real life and that makes the scenes feel incredibly porny most of the time. This also partly explains the constant chasing of more extreme sexual acts that were very rarely available to be scene in any large way prior to the internet porn era.
Hi, I really recognize this. I started with porn in 1998 and the vids I watched then featured mostly quite "normal" sex. That really changed when Euro porn became popular. Vaginal sex, which is the "normal" kind of sex became less prominent in porn vids and anal became more important. Group sex became more and more normal so the differences between "normal" sex and "porn" sex grew. And now "porn" sex has nothing to do with "normal" sex anymore. When people say porn is unrealistic these days, they are true, but for many people that is the attraction of porn. Something totally different from the everyday sex many people are having. And lots of porn fans are males and they just wanna see what the sexual possibilities of females are.
