There's no point trying to sell them. Nobody is buying them. Even if you find a second hand store that will take adult DVDs, they will probably give you only $50 for your entire collection. I mean a few cents per title. Do you really have thousands of porn DVDs?

Unfortunately, there is simply no market for DVDs anymore. They are an obsolete format, or will be soon. Like Laser Disc, VHS, audio cassettes, mini-Discs, 8-track tapes (remember them?) Just more relics

The reason to keep them is that if you have a favorite, physical media ensures you can watch them when you want. There is no guarantee that content will continue to be available online. especially when it comes to porn. So much porn is being made constantly, porn from the past is just not profitable. Your DVD may be the only way you can rewatch a certain scene.

If you are embarrassed about telling family members about it... just don't tell them. What's the point. You would hope to have more important things to think about and say on your deathbed or whatever.

I still have my DVDs and my player. I will probably never upgrade to Blu Rays. just keep using this old tech until it doesn't work anymore. I guess that is me getting older and caring less about such things.

There is no nostalgia for 480p. That is the maximum resolution in DVD format, without an upscaler in your player.

Viewers these days are accustomed to high definition on their damn phones. 1080p or higher, no going back. Nothing charming about pixelation.

By the way, DVDs look HORRIBLE on modern 4K TVs.

There are ways of rapidly departing a large collection by contacting a porn wholesaler who would be glad to come to your home and remove the items, also considered giving it to someone who will treasure it as much as I do after I'm gone, something to ponder as we get older.

I had a massive adult magazine collection as well as dvd's, hence I said "had" because they found it and burned it up, I experienced a medical emergency back in February, basically I had one foot in the grave, had slipped into a coma and woke up in the hospital with a serious infection, spent two months in hospital, then about 5 in rehab, I was totally at the mercy of my health care providers, was totally helpless in the early stages of this crisis!

During this time some of my family thought I wasn't going to make it so I signed over to them executors of my estate, which as you may know gives them the right to make decisions on my behalf, especially financial, what ever they think was in my best interest, so they convinced me to sell a piece of property I own which by the way was where the building was that contained my porn lair, out of sight out of mind you know what I mean! anyway, I gave them instructions to not interfere with anything in the office until my return, which they thought would never happen at that point, long story short I miraculously recovered and upon my return discovered some of my most cherished magazine and dvd collection had been found and destroyed! And I'm a piece of shit! some of my relatives were cool with it, the men, but my female relatives were disgusted, and I think my reputation is in the tank with them unfortunately.

Many of the magazines were Hustlers Barely Legal series, so I'm accused of dabbling in child porn now, I had every Barely Legal magazine back to the first issue in 95, found the entire lot on eBay when Ebay still sold adult magazines, bought the entire lot for about $2500, I was so proud of them I even bagged and boarded them, it's something that comic book collectors do, also invested in a $600 filing cabinet where I neatly organized the collection by date, it's all gone, cabinet and everything!

But I'm recovering well now thank you very much, coping with the loss of one of my most beloved porn treasures is hard to reconcile with, I'm more depressed over losing my porn collection than I am with nearly dying, this is a cautionary tale for those of you who may be getting close to having to disperse something like that before the inevitable, before it's too late, because the world will find out eventually that you were a total pervert! I turned 60 a couple of months ago so reading about your experience gives me some concerns. I've thought about what my future relationship with porn will look like. Unlike you, I got rid of all my DVDs and magazines years ago because they were too conspicuous. My entire collection is now on multiple external drives. However, while some ADT members talk about having a drive or two, I have almost 30. The last time I calculated, I have approximately 83 TB of porn. And that's just on my primary drives. I have every last bit of it backed up as well, with some irreplaceable stuff being backed up twice. As large as that collection is in terms of porn, it's a remarkably small footprint compared to physical media like DVDs and magazines. My primary drives are easily stored in one regular briefcase that sits in a closet. My larger backup drives are stashed in a drawer.

But what happens if, like you, I have a health emergency that puts me in the hospital for a few months?

I've always run through the scenario involving my death and while I shudder to think what people will think about my vast porn collection, I'll be dead. What I haven't thought about is incapacity and what friends and family knowing about my "hobby" will do to our relationship.

While I can't claim your level of care in curating your collection, I do have my own version of that. I've kept a list of sites/movies and the stars in them for years. With a collection this large, I need something to keep it organized. While I enjoy collecting new porn, I enjoy cataloguing it just as much. I also keep a separate list with notes about my favourite scenes. My complete list, which is in a Microsoft Word document, now runs to over 500 pages long. My "favourites" list is around 70 pages long.

(Yes, I know there are much better ways to keep track of all this information, but I started this list over 20 years ago and migrating it to different software now would be a monumental task.)

Every 4 to 6 weeks, I update my lists and back up everything new. As a collector, I don't see this as a chore.

Reading about you bagging and cardboarding your magazines made me smile. If I had all those Barely Legal magazines, I'd do the same.

I did this mainly for space but DVDs can degrade over time and players are starting to disappear so it was about time. It's so much easier to have it on a drive and then plug it in to my PC, TV or laptop - so long as I keep a backup.

On average, each scene is 1.3GB, so to amass 83TB of porn would mean about 64000 scenes! Or 4 years of viewing 24x7 !!!

The size of my collection is probably "worse" when you factor in that a lot of it is older, so lower resolution and with smaller file sizes. I've never counted the number of scenes I have (though I might now take that as a challenge!), but I wouldn't be surprised if it was at or near 100,000.

One way I use to gauge the size of my collection is to convert it to DVDs. Back when I rented and bought DVDs, the average data size on a DVD was around 4 GB. I never used Blu-ray so those may be different. So 83 TB divided by 4 GB gives an equivalent of 20,750 DVDs. Put in that perspective, I may need some counselling! I also put that number in perspective by thinking back to the days when I'd buy and rent from adult shops. I live in a relatively small community (100,000), so the few shops in the area were all small. They may have had 2000 DVDs available. I do remember being in a shop in Toronto where they had thousands upon thousands of DVDs available. They may have had as many as 20,000 for all I know. But recalling that sprawling place in Toronto, I think that if converted to DVDs, my collection would be similar. That's a bit frightening.

Cataloguing my collection would be impossible if I had all this and wanted to start now. The thing is that I started using a simple three-column Word document to track my collection back in the early 1990s. Back then I even printed it and kept it in a binder. By the time internet porn availability exploded and my collection grew by leaps and bounds, it was too late to change it. I'm sure there are better ways, but my clunky old Word document soldiers on, at more than 500 pages now. It still works well for me.

A bit off topic, I remember having a conversation with a fellow porn collecting colleague back around 1997. Back then, due to the constraints of dial-up, videos were short grainy clips. He said that he thought the day would come when entire scenes and movies would be available online. I told him I didn't think that would ever happen. I guess I'm terrible at predicting the future.

I thankfully like you rearadmiral have always burned every DVD I owned to portable hard drives, put the DVD away and never touch it again, the magazines I never really looked at much other than they were a great resource of model information, like a physical catalog of models was my main interest in collecting magazines, but like I said they didn't get them all, but they got the cream of the crop sadly, and I lose sleep thinking about what was there, sometimes I'll remember something I had and know I'll probably never find another copy again it was so rare, and it breaks my heart, but then again, if I died it wouldn't matter would it, I wouldn't be here to dwell on it!

My health, this may shock some of you, and in this day of age of medical technology I should have known better than to let my health go down hill so bad, I have a below the knee right leg amputation, apparently there was an infection on the bottom of my foot that progressed to the point of me going into Septic shock, I stepped on a nail months earlier that caused this and like a fool didn't seek medical attention, if I did I would still have a right foot, so I slipped into a coma while lying in bed, the next morning I was found on the floor, one foot in the grave basically, woke up in a hospital days later, hooked up to a binch of IV,s sticking in my arms, currently wearing a prosthetic, getting better every day, and learning to walk again, the moral to the story, if you haven't already which at the time I hadn't, get yourself a primary care doctor, someone you can turn to in a moments notice to have yourself checked out, get screenings for cancer or other ailments that could be infecting you, be careful what you eat, you don't know you may be a ticking time bomb, especially as you become older, when I see a guy now who's as old as I am and is severely over weight, that person is a ticking time bomb!

I've been collecting porn videos what was first VHS back in the 80's, haven't done an inventory but sitting here at my desk I see about 15 hard drives of various sizes, my HD's are my bread and butter so to speak, they didn't find those, they probably wouldn't know what they were even if they did find them, so basically every video I still have in digital form, just don't have many of the newer jewel cases anymore, and dvd's, but my old stash, stuff from more than two decades ago still exists thank God,

So be aware my friends, if you have a large stash of physical porn lying around in your private place, when you die everyone will find it, but it shouldn't matter if your dead right? if you worry about a reputation to uphold, you may consider selling it in bulk to an adult bookstand who would be more than grateful to take it off your hands, before it's too late, and also very importantly to preserve it for future generations!

Physical media is ofc the epitome of collection but I have been using cloud storages as backups and so far it has been good.It's a good option to look into as far as privacy matters the bad thing is it can get quite expensive when the collection gets huge. Some of the cloud storage providers run lifetime subscriptions too.
