The basic questions I currently have are: Legal Preparation Acting costs Distribution Staying Anonymous Discussion Forums Retaliation Lawsuits All feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you. | Victor Demayo New Member 2 Posts 4/06 | I've been a member on this forum a few times in the past and have contributed but lost my password. I am seriously considering directing a porn film. I have watched 100s of adult films and am an avid renter. I'd like to get into making adult films not for the money specifically, but because I think I can do it better, as arrogant as that may sound. I think if I am right and can do it better than a lot of whats out there, the money may follow. Either way I'll be doing what I think comes easy to me. There is a lot of great porn out there, but there is also a lot of porn that is the same. With bad camera angles, bad directing, bad scripts, and boring dry sex. I'd like to change that and see what I can do differently. What's bothered me is how people have come on this website for a very long time and voiced what they like and don't like and you never see a change. This is by far the most active and knowledgable community on the web with some of the biggest pornstars visiting it and contributing, yet things seem to stay the same. So I'd like to tap into that niche area where the real buyers actually start getting what they want. Obviously I could go to a lawyer and ask him about it, but he's not going to tell me where to get talent. Or how prevelant retaliation is or what a cum swap is going for nowadays. So I thought I'd come here and genuinely ask. I personally think there should be a forum section here for developers of porn. Then have all the wannabes like me, post all their stuff in there out of the way of the general porn talk. Because I don't seem to be getting any responses here over a thread that talks about double anal scenes or watersports. ha But that's fair enough. I've searched the web and I haven't been fortunate to find any real good info yet. But I'll keep trying. Thank you. Edited by - victor demayo on 4/30/2006 12:25:37 PM |

By all means, if you think you can create a porn revolution, go right ahead and try. I just think porn revolutions would be much more frequent if it were as easy as you seem to think. There are many very talented people working in porn (in various aspects of it). I'm sure there will be many improvements and changes in the future but I think it's quite possible that, for the moment, if things could be changed, someone would change them. There's usually a reason why things don't change.....and it's usually a pretty good one when you consider everything that's involved. |
| Mr. Hollywood Member LA 14 Posts 3/06 | 1) Legal Preparation - Don't worry about legal prep now. You should not be doing it. Get a lawyer. Incorporate your business (to protect yourself from law suits, etc.) Get an accountant as well. A tax id, bank accounts, etc. etc. You should not be thinking about making a film before you consider the development of your new company. There will be start up costs, pay it. Pay it all. Best money you will ever spend will be on legal and financial advice. 2) acting costs - Besides the cost of talent (which seems to be somewhere between $1000-$4000 per female actor depending on what they do.) You will also need to factor, Makeup, Hair, Wardrobe, Craft Services and Catering. Toys, Lube, Condoms, Clean up- Towels, etc. 3) Distribution - Good luck... But if you make something with good production values your chances will be better. If you try to do it on your own, light, shoot, makeup, in a motel room.. Your screwed ! 4) Staying Anonymous - NEVER... The world is too small. If you don't want to be known, or are trying to keep it secret from your parents, wife, kids, forget it.. If you are not willing to put yourself out there, Porn is not the right industry for you. You will be OUTED... It will just happen.. 5) Retaliation?? - Can't comment on this, sounds like a pretty weird concern. If your worried about pimps and lawyers coming to break your legs, maybe you should stick to your telemarketing job. Not that I think it happens, just sounds like you don't have the right disposition for the P industry. 6) Lawsuits - Welcome to latigious america. You can be sued if you do nothing wrong, you can even lose. There is no safe guard, save maybe a corporate shell. But they can wipe that out if they, slip and fall in your house, contract a disease on your set, get hurt, WHATEVER.... That's why it's important to form a company.. -- Now victor, as a director, let me state this loud and clear. PRODUCTION is one of the hardest things to pull off and pull off well. I would guess that if you are serious about making a go at it, have at least $50,000 to start your company and even that is VERY underfunded. You will need good sound people, good editors, good photographers, good make up and hair, good talent, then web sites, designers to do your box art, conventions and booths to sell your product. If your going to make crap on your home movie camera, don't waste your time. There is too much good product out there for anyone to waste their time with your crap. And don't think you can cheap out on make up and hair and lighting, etc. PUT YOUR MONEY ON SCREEN ..... Good luck... |

The next best thing after Mr. Hollywood´s insight could be a visit to a porn set and see for yourself what can and probably will go wrong. I often wonder how they do it at all ... seeing the amount of porn that is being released every month Cube |
