"Gone are the days when being at Evil was a porn director’s wildest dream…people there are simply not making money anymore. Jake Malone is so broke he had to make up a fake name so he can shoot camera for all the Red Light guys. Jonny Darkko has been doing the same for years (he shoots for New Sensations with the name Xavier Mann). And Belladonna just signed a performing deal with Vivid…" source: http://lukeisback.com/bloglukeisback/?p=708 Edited by - leeroy magic on Jul 15 2007
Belladonna isn't trying to hide anything she has stated in a blog that she is doing one film for Vivid that Paul Thomas especially wrote for her and she has been looking for something different that will push her.
Oh Jeez, you ADT'ers. ;) This was all asked and answered at xxxporntalk days ago. Our very own Tricia gave the final word.

Well maybe she can find the time to repeat herself here on ADT, since many of us don't bother with that other site.

I think the choice is either 1/ don't bother with xpt and don't bother with lukeisback or 2/ do bother with both. You can't really bother with one but spurn the other. If you're going to bother about what Luke has to say about anything then you're just going to have to make room for xpt in your life.
The basic gist (is that the word?) is that the Evil directors are paid quite nicely and the work they do under aliases is known by all and that the Belladonna Vivid flick is a a one picture deal too good to pass up and fine for all involved. I should mention that I had went to the "other" porn talk board in a moment of boredom.

so they do movies under alias, so Malone really shoots under other names?

i am pretty sure Malone isn't shooting at RLD under any name because all their new stuff sucks, and is nothing like how he shoots
I can see why directors who want their name associated with a certain label and/or style of porn might choose to work under an alias in order to explore other genres. Or sometimes it's just buddying around with other directors. It isn't necessarily about needing the money, you know.

some true examples of this practice would be nice?
From what I've heard Stephen King writes under aliases in different genres and he's definitely not broke. So I can see how that could be true. I still find it interesting though how your two favorite porn directors could turn out to be the same guy. :) mod: quote snipped - see the Forum Etiquette Edited by - hardware on 7/16/2007 2:11:44 PM
OMFG!!! My darkest secret is revealed! Can it be true??? Does anybody give a rats ass??? Only this guy lukewhatshis name knows. Because he knows about stuff that didn't even happen! I have shot camera on a few scenes for my friend John Strong, under the name Itchy McGurk. Maybe five or six during the year I've been with Evil Angel. I don't do it because I'm broke, I do it because I like shooting sex. ( I'm not broke!...really!...It's just those Asian Dominatrix hookers are sooo expensive!) And I get to see some new girls and see how they do. When I shoot for John, I try to shoot the way he likes it, which is a little different than the way I shoot my own stuff, (he's the director, I'm just a hired gun.) so I like using my alter-ego name "Itchy". It's no great secret, and like I said, who cares? As for Evil Angel, there is no company in the world I would rather be hooked up with. IMHO it is the " top of the market". There is no one in porn with a more flawless reputation for integrity than John Stagliano, and, he actually watches the porn I make, which is unheard of among porn company owners. We don't "get paid" at Evil. We all own our own stuff so, however well our stuff sells, that's how much $ we make. If your stuff sells pretty good, like mine, you make what I call really good $. If your stuff sells REALLY good, like some of the other people there, you make REALLY good money. All things being relative, what's a lot of $ to me, might not be a lot of $ to Lukewhatshisname. But saying people "are simply not making money there", is "simply not true". Thanx 4 watching! Evil Angel
I doubt Paul Thomas is the right director to push a girl like Belladonna unless it's a 180 degree push or is Belladonna thinking about doing more features instead of gonzo?
Paul Thomas is gonna push Bella to act, not just shove bigger toys in her ass.

Lately it seems that most of his stuff either comes from ADT or XPT. What a job, spend all day linking to 2 of porns main forums, read what others have to say and then re-post it... Cut 'n paste and away we go!

I thought that Bella was the best thing about Bella Loves Jenna. No disrespect to Jenna, but Bella took that movie places where 'Vivid' performers simply wouldn't have been able to. LMAO at Jake's really good $ vs. REALLY good $. Jake - you and I both know that the only reason for the marginal difference in sales between our best sales numbers and your best sales numbers is because Fuck Slaves scared off a few overly conservative distributors. Other than that, your movies are as good and entertaining as anything else we have.
Very true, which is what makes me really interested in what PT is doing if he has Bella in mind. That project has the potential to really pick up both their games. "I do not as a rule seek advice about food from thin people..." - Jeffrey Steingarten
Sad that their loss has to turn into Jake's loss, as that was one heck of a great movie. "I do not as a rule seek advice about food from thin people..." - Jeffrey Steingarten

Ms. Tricia, I have a question that relates to some of the stuff I talked to you about earlier. You just said Jake scared off some distributors. But, earlier you said Evil distributes its own stuff. I am confused abhout how the system works in porn. Are these local or national distributors? Is EA like a wholesaler or does it directly deal with retailers?

ok - a little bit of searching here on ADT, and you'll find a MUCH more detailed answer from me somewhere... Each of the directors that we distribute for exist as their own production company. They own their movies, which means they pay for the production up front and they make the profit off it and pay Evil Angel a distribution fee percentage. While we are their distributor, they direct exclusively with Evil Angel. If and when they decide to not be with Evil Angel anymore, they may take their movies and the names of the movies with them. Evil Angel is the distributor, but as we do not sell to every single individual adult store, the vast majority of our sales are to intermediate distributors. If one of the distributors chooses not to buy one of the movies we distribute because they are afraid of the content, we do not force them to buy it. Some of the sales will be picked up by OTHER intermediate distributors to sell through to the stores, but not ALL of the sales.

thanks for the response, so the distributors are local?
If it wasn't profitable, the producers would simply not (produce). I think at Third Degree/Zero Tolerance some directors work under different names? If a person has worked to make their name a commodity, they want to preserve that too (and just plain avoid creating market confusion).

They are located all over, from a few miles away from us in CA, to New York. It's a lot easier for us to ship hundreds of pieces to one warehouse in NY, and then they sell to individual stores, than to sell those same hundreds of pieces to a wholesaler in CA to ship to individual stores in NY. Same for Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, and everywhere else porn is loved by the community. ;)

What are the margins like who takes a thiner PM you guys or the distributor? Probably the distributer I am guessing.
There are plenty of folks pulling double or triple duty, but there is a need to create the illusion that porn is not like the row of Indian restaurants on 6th St in Manhattan: Basically, the same food from the same kitchen served under 20 different names and at six different price points. Indian Food. Porn. Same diff. Stuff directors sign personally tends to have a higher bang for buck, esp at companies like Evil and JJ, where the pieces wholesale at more than $10 ... everybody else in gonzo sells their shit for subway tokens. Sad but true.
Red Light District, when they had all those directors underneath their umbrella, had a relatively homogenous product. There were some stylistic differences, but being around each other made the output look alike. It wasn't just passing around the same women either.

Croy I think RLD had a certain look but each director brought a different vibe to the video. Jake MAlone was totally diferent then Luger for example. And, Brandon had an original look. So I think it was a diverse line up.
