Did anyone else read this? I would link to it, but AVN's sites just take waaaaay too long to load on dialup. [Now I sound like Chillin] Someone with something stronger please link to it. I'll just use the print mag to quote from. The forum included Henri Pachard, Veronica Hart, Jerome Tanner, Ed Powers, Mason, Michael Stefano, Michael Raven and Jules Jordan.
Anyway, a couple of things stood out to me: Veronica Hart saying that she doesn't watch porn. This surprised me. Especially the attitude expressed with a statement like "I have a personal life. I don't really need porn." She makes good porn, but she doesn't partake of its orgasmic fruits.
I really liked this: "[J]ust about everyone, Old Schoolers in particular, w[as] in agreement on one key point: porn's so-called Golden Age is just so much overly-romanticized hype, its films not holding a candle to today's productions." Yay! I told you so. Nyah.
The second half of the Directors' discussion appears in the February issue of AVN.
It's not that common that you find somebody who likes to do something but not watch it being done. Still, it's not that surprising to find some people like that.I couldn't disagree more. <grin> Golden Age, to me, seemed better because it was all more casual and less "produced", in one sense (more real, less posed), and also because there seemed to be more of an emphasis on script and acting in general.
I read the first part in AVN and am looking forward to reading part 2. Ed Powers came off really egotistical and offensive to me. Reading the article, my level of respect for Jules, Stefano, and Mason was raised a notch as they carried themselves well and I commend them for there comments. Its nice that some directors care about fans and are also themselves a fan of what they make. Some of the other directors just seemed bored and out of touch/ outdated...
Right the fuck on, P-Knuckle! Glad to read that Pachard, at least, had affinities for the New Kids on the Block. I may have to actually buy AVN (eeep!) to read round 2.
Having seen the type of vanilla boring porn that she shoots, it doesn't surprise me at all she doesn't watch porn.
IMO, for the most part, the porn that I like best is shot by directors who are shooting what they like to watch. If you don't like porn, you can't make good porn.
I respectfully disagree. Veronica Hart's Torn was one of the first adult DVDs I ever saw (it was the third or fourth title I purchased), and I still think it's hotter than hell. Ginger Lynn does a TP (of the airtight variety) with three real cocks, plus a technical DP with a butt plug and Juli Ashton's strap-on. We even get to watch Ginger on a toilet and hear her pee. This is certainly enough to hold my interest.
I'm really looking forward to viewing Sunset Stripped in the near future.
No worries Sue......I agree with you. It did seem a bit hypocritical.
And yes, I would direct a music video. In fact I did work on one a few years back. "Drag the Waters" by Pantera. I would certainly use porn stars, if the video called for it.
